Title: F8F's BEARCAT!
Post by: handy169 on November 02, 2006, 09:36:53 AM
765 F8F-1's 4 .50 cals
100 F8F-1B's, armed with 20mm cannon instead of the four machine guns
293 F8F-2's, outfitted with 20mm cannon as a standard

It was the speediest prop-driven fighter that Grumman ever produced, Designed as a follow-on to the successful F6F Hellcat, the F8F Bearcat was 20 percent lighter and almost 50 MPH faster (421 vs. 376).

VF-19 actually took delivery of its Bearcats in May, 1945

NOT ONE ever saw combat in WW2. VF-19's Bearcats were on the way to the Pacific War Zone aboard the carrier USS LANGLEY CVL-27 when the war ended.

Agree with Dawg - all we need is another "Newb Rocket!"
MANY other planes need to be added to the lineup before this one.

We have a 3 canon unperked LA7... those were just as rare... At least it was on the way to the front and would have flown in combat had it not been for the Enola Gay and Bockscar.

I am sure those aboard that birdfarm did conduct some form of flight ops (even if it was in a rear area)

While the 3 cannon La7 was rare, at least it did see combat.

If they add the F8F, then I get my F2G refined to how the bird WOULD have flown had the military not given up on the design after the war ended (we already have a fantasy N1K2 and Ki-84 based on how they'd have performed without crap quality control at the factory, so why not?)

boohooers can whine all they want, but the F8F was a WW2 plane, IN PRODUCTION and SQUADRON service before the war ended.  It should be in AH,  although a high perk.

F8F wouldnt be like a La7, more like a spit16/F6 on steriods.
its main atribute was Climb, not speed. it was a short range interceptor.

need another late war dweeb ride whels? it's nothing to do with it being in squadron service or anything, the damn thing never saw bloody combat.

the F8F doesn't belong in AH as it is now at all. there were loads of jets in production from late 44 onwards, but we don't have them here, because they weren't combat planes. and why should we add the bearcat when there are far more important planes needed.

AH isn't just the way you play it whels, late war stuff. the early war plane set is seriously lacking, especially for the japanese and russians. early war events are always messed up because of the silly subs that have to fill in for other planes.

AH needs more 'hangar queens' than stupid late war runtard rides

what do you fly? there are some in this game that like a challenge, and get a kick out of flying a normal plane instead of '44 or '45 rides all the time.

Name another plane in AH that didnt see combat.

I cant think of any either....So, no matter how cool the plane would be, there are many more in line that have a better claim on HTC resources.

the F7F tigercat

its argued that the 1.98ata 109 K-4 never saw combat either

and the P-80

..ummmmm....

Handy, I'm not sure what game you've been playing, but the F7F and P80 aren't in AH. Not being a tech/spec guy, can't comment on the 1.98 ata issue; but the K4 was clearly a combat aircraft.

We don't have the 1.98ata K4, we have the lower boosted version.

Ah, got ya.

As an extra bit of info -
There is still no solid proof that even 1 K4 ever used 1.98ata despite what a former poster on the BB's liked to claim.

yes there was like 78 produced and delivered from my understanding but never flew from my understanding

Various things have come up -

A document dated March 45 showing the 'intention' to use 1.98ata for ALL K4 units.

A document dated end March 1945 showing them still using the B4 fuel, so no 1.98ata.

So you would have to believe between the end of March 45 and the end of the war in ealry/mid May they managed to convert them.

Bearing in mind the C3 fuel required for them was scarce, and allocated to the 190 units anyway.

It has a been a big bone of contention.

Got a feeling I know where the 78 came from.
Same guy who has been trying to prove K4's used Flettners also, despite being shown they were ALL locked shut on K4's.
