Title: If I cancel, here's why...
Post by: roach on November 03, 2006, 05:14:18 PM
I joined a squad to fly with a squad.  It enhances the game a great deal to be able to work cooperatively with a small group in a team.

The new arena capacity restrictions seriously inhibit a group's ability to operate in the same arena.   If these restrictions in the Aces High arenas persist, I, as a paying customer, may choose to find another online war game.

Simply put, when I see my fellow squaddies are in Late War Orange, and I attempt to join Late War Orange, just to find myself in Late War Blue, I become dissatisfied with the product I am paying for.

In anticipation of obvious responses such as "just organize your group in a different arena" I must point out that in all practicality, this just does not work.  This seems to be a consistent problem with many of the squads and therefore, I, along with many other paying customers have become discontented with the arena balancing changes.

Be creative and find a new means to balance the arena load capacity.  For example, the ENY restrictions seem much more clever and practical to me.

I would not disrespect you in this way.  I thought AH2 people were mature.

Your behavior speaks volumes.

Everyone has been pretty helpful until now.  I am shocked.

ok I think that makes you number 8 of the "vocal minority", save us all the additional posts that ALL state the same thing over and over again and just quit now!

Thank-you, and have a nice day.

While I sympathize with you, there are a few other threads on this subject throughout the BBS.  Perhaps a letter to the HTC staff would be more effective, Sir.

roach if this were the bar round the corner from my shop and you came in, made comments about the general condition of the establishment and how messed up the pool tables are, you would get your bellybutton kicked by the waitresses and we would be laughing.

I believe that many of these responses are in violation with the forum policy in etiquette.  Maybe others have complained about the load balancing.  Perhaps this is an indication of general displeasure.  This is what is known as "Customer Feedback."

Roach ... your post on this subject would be at least the 100th post of the same subject. Many people from many squads have already voiced the same thing as you ... and from what I can see ... HT ain't gonna change it back to "the way it was".

If ya really have a hair across your arse about this and are serious .. then send HT an email or give him a ring on the phone and talk to him ... he will talk to you.

Posting on this BBS just leaves you open for anything ... especially on this subject.

You are rude - and the analogy is grossly inaccurate.  If you sold me a product, that later changed, becoming less functional than what I paid for, then I would be within my rights to submit a complaint.

Please post your business name so that I may avoid it as you are a poor business operator.

Posting on the BBS granted me your wise suggestions.

The other responses by other posters are simply childish, small minded, and perhaps in violation of forum policy.

Thank you.

Storch is rude, but he has the coldest beer in town.  Point is, take the bad with the good.  This is still the best entertainment value around.  $15 a month with all the bonus comedy the BBS has to offer, it's a STEAL I tell you!

Yes, this is a dead horse. There is a vocal minority who don't like the arena change and despite HTC's numerous explantions as to why they're in place, continue to beat the drum hoping it will change back. Beat the drum all you want here in the public forum. It's unlikely to bring about a return to the "good old days."

If you're not seeking attention, why post? Call HTC and express your views.
Neither the subscribers or lurkers who frequent these boards can do anything to redeem your argument and affect your desired rollback.

I just got discoed....it happens, buy when I tried to logg into the orange arena with my squad mates the arena was full...now this is NOT what I subscribed to .... now this may be fun for some but not for me..I feel too that my time is growing short for this game...you may think that I am whinning but remember how many played before the arena change, well add them up now.....

"I see my fellow squaddies are in Late War Orange, and I attempt to join Late War Orange, just to find myself in Late War Blue"

Off topic (maybe) - Makes me wonder how many squads do that to avoid members they don't like!?

Seems if the squad is truly that "close" that they'd all move to an arena that would accomodate them all!

Not to be rude but here's the deal....

1. HTC has the best WW2 combat air sim available for online subscribers.

2. Hitech & Pyro have 15+ years of player/producer experience.

3. Like it or not, life requires change and the ability to adopt.

4. HTC decided that 700 packed into a single arena doesn't produce the desired "community interaction" they're seeking to achieve.

5. Changes have been made. HTC has added modifications suggested by the player base.

6. I doubt very seriously HTC will cave on their' decision to split the arenas.

7. If you dislike the way things stand now, call or e-mail HTC. If you don't concur with the outcome, find another way to spend your hard earned $$.

I will report everyone who has violated forum policy.  The rules apply equally to all.  Although I have not been an AH2 customer for very long, I am a paying customer and I never suspected that there were so many disrespectful, small minded and poorly behaved individuals on these forums.  One critique about a new game policy and all of the rats come out of the woodwork to flame the poster.

Forum visitors and posters are entitled to respect.  I and others like me that come here to seek advice and voice our concerns are entitled to respect.   If you feel as though you must post a rude response, then simply have some self control and post nothing.  The forum clearly invites questions and comments.  I have posted a comment on something that concerns me about the game.  My post is legitimate by the very nature of the content and the forum purpose.

Rather than behaving like unsupervised children in a 3rd grade classroom after eating an excessive amount sugary candy, you all could behave like respectable, mature adults.

There can be a discussion.  I could understand had I posted my complaint multiple times, spamming the forum.  I made my one post here, under this topic, with this thread.  I would never have posted had I known so many disturbed individuals would come out of the woodwork to insult me and my opinion.  I did not anticipate such aggressive and immature behavior.

I hope that those of you that are guilty of obvious infringement of the forum policy do not represent the Aces High users as a body.  Because, that would be a much stronger reason for canceling than any alterations in the game dynamics.

I mean really, go back and read again what you have written and how you have behaved.  Think about it, and if you are still confused, call your mother and run it by her.  I am sure you will come to the same conclusion that other mature adults, that you were very rude and insulting without provocation.

life's a b*tch huh?

listen, it has been made VERY easy to get together with your squad. if you still can't do it within 5 minutes, then you are bloody lazy or you're in a bad squad. stop whining and make it work. if you don't want to make it work, then try and find a new squad with some nice guys, or leave, it's quite simple. the changes were made for a reason, they won't be changing back.

all these guys like you expect that their whines and threats of leaving will change HTC's policy. sorry dude, you're very wrong.

now quit acting like like a baby and come to an adult decision, are you willing to put a little effort in to find you squad, or are you going to leave. do one or the other without giving us an earache and a follow up lecture, thankyou.

You have served only to reinforce everything I have written.  Unless you are on the payroll of the company that provides this game, I doubt your assertion about changes brought about as the result of customer feedback have any value.

Let me make one thing very clear, I wish to invite ONLY constructive responses.  There have been a few, and I appreciate them.  Anyone else who feels like being rude, or insulting, simply exercise some self control and do not contribute to the already sad state of affairs in this forum.

like you said, it's a public forum with lots of opinions.

what do you want me to say?

'oh no roach, please don't go, i hate HT as well, they have fubar'd this game! :furious :furious ' ??? :rofl

listen, i'm not trying to be mean or disrespectful, i'm just telling you to quit telling HT what to do with his game, especially seeing as you are so new, as you don't fully appreciate HT's expertise in this field.

he knows exactly what he's doing, and he isnt going to change it back, let alone comform to your commands.

if you want to leave, then go, but i can assure you HT isdoing what's best. for many of us the game has become more enjoyable. i appreciate it is less easy for the new players to get to grips with, but stick with it if you're willing to stop whining.

the new changes have brought some great fights. i appreciate that newer players dont usually like the 1 on 1 dogfighting style and prefer to ride in groups and smash buildings, because it's far easier to do and doesn't take much time to learn. if you ever need help, i'd be happy to spend some time with you in the TA. once you learn to enjoy the fights, i can promise you that the new arenas are a good change

The game itself, the flight dynamics, and aircraft, and so forth are very good.  As a student pilot, I find flying in this simulation feels a lot more accurate than Microsoft's Flight Sim.  In this respect I hold the game developers in high regards.  As a flight simulation and combat simulation, I think the game is absolutely top notch.  As for this public forum, my opinion has recently changed.

Where I find fault with what you are saying, Major Biggles, is how you suggest this game is governed by a totalitarian regime.  I do not believe this is the case.  I am optimistic and I believe that the developers do make modifications based on customer suggestions.  The more voices, the more likely the change.  Furthermore, they are in the business of generating revenue.  This is something I understand as a business owner myself.  I listen to my customers and I am very respectful when communicating with them.  Satisfied customers are paying customers.  Finally, I have been advised by many veteran players that the developers are open minded and do consider suggestions. I also find fault with your rudeness.  You could state your opinion with some degree of courtesy, taking into account that your second post was an improvement.

Captain Virgil Hilts, I am a devoted Steve McQueen fan and would hate to be insulted by someone bearing an avatar of his likeness, or that from one of my favorite all time movies, The Great Escape.

Moneyguy, where I attended school, although it has been many years ago, we learned the difference between a simile and metaphor.  My accusation to those of guilt is that they are very rude.  Perhaps you could use an English refresher course.  Being "like" a child is not "being" a child, and many of the responses to my post are indeed very childish, or as though posted by someone immature and of youth.

you know instead of quitting , try to fly or GV in the arena your in and after awhile try to jump back into the arena with your squaddies .

I logged in last night my squad was in another arena , no biggie.

Did a few runs and every once and awhile I would logg off and try to jump in the arena they were in, and wouldn't you freekin know it , I got in  !  ! ! YAY 4 Me

Patience is all it took , kinda like in a good dog fight , you cant be too quick to kill or you will wind up getting killed.

I respectfully disagree, and can share with you many forums that do not contain childish, disrespectful insulting of participants.  I am an old school computer user and have been posting on various forums since the dial up BBS days.

This thread is pretty much used up, but there were some valuable suggestions within all of the noise.  I will submit my suggestions to the Hi Tech by email.  Also, using another arena while waiting for an opening in the one I want isn't exactly a secret, it is merely a way of coping with a new policy that seems to be a rather hot issue (judging by all of the flame here in this thread alone), however, it was also a good suggestion.

Oldman731 and the others that continue to throw insults will be added to the list of individuals being reported for direct violation of the posted forum policy.  Being called "skuzzy" is a personal attack and a violation of forum rules.

Finally, I was advised to post my comment here by someone in the training arena that claimed to be an Aces High helper.  If I see that individual again I shall share my experience with regards to the forum.

What's the fishcount? This one was funny. I mean .... heck. Right down to the point where he/she hasn't even quit yet and here's the cry-bye.

I give this fishing trip 8 out of ten stars. Beats being bored by a long shot.

:aok

Was this one of the one's that deserved a gentlemanly salute? But ... but ... it's genius!

i admit that i haven't read through all of the replies.  i will say that if you can't fly with your squad you should not be mad at HT, you should be mad at your squad.  can't get into an arena, why doesn't your squad join you.  dunno, maybe time to find a new squad.

now, where did i put that beer?

Roach looks like no one is interested in your argument. So far the game works in this way. You belong to the minority. Your monthly fee is not considered so important. Then quit, I mean really delete your account you and your whole squad, take some months of relax, wait and see.

In the meantime, learn how to dress yourself like a nice cheerleader. Then you'll be able, better it'll be easier, to attack other players without getting edited ;)

While the forum isn't about "mockery and piss taking", many of the users have a low tolerance for "pissing and moaning". Especially, when those types of threads are started ad nauseum. As for the early '90s...you obviously were using a different net. These forums are light compared to the flame wars of the early '90s. :D

Roach...

Nothing personal, but, if you had bothered to check, multiple threads like this one have been started in the last month. That is part of the reason you recieved such a negative reaction to your post. BTW, you might wanna apologize to Skuzzy. Skuzzy is HTC's tech support guru and he moderates these boards...should he take offense......(can you say "BBS Nuke"?) :D

Being "like" a child is not "being" a child, and many of the responses to my post are indeed very childish, or as though posted by someone immature and of youth.

roach, HTC make LOADS of changes to the game purely on user input. they've been spending weeks putting in things to help people find their squad and to be able to message them across the arenas.

do you really think they would spend that much time, instead of just switching it back, if they weren't serius about the arena change. they want it like it is now, it isn't going to change...

lots of guys have complained, just like you did, but it doesn't change a thing, the arena changes are necessary for the game in the long run, and they might as well change it now when they piss 1000 people off, than do it later and piss 10000 people off.

HTC is the most incredible company, they're entirely dedicated to the game, and their customer service is just incomparable (you call their office they'll drop everything that they're doing to help you).

you need to trust them

it's easy enough to find your squad dude, i can explain it to you if you don't know how. once you know where they are you can go to the arena with the lower cap, do something short like base defence or GV'ing, then log out after 5 minsutes and try and get into the other arena again (you can usually get a space, lots of people log out)

the change has been a great change for me, i love the fights and pilots that i'm coming across now. if the only thing you don't like is not being with your squad, just try a little harder to get in with them, or get some of them to come to you, and you'll have a blast (try the midwar together, still plenty of planes but not as many people, you can have some great fun in there :)

Huh, dozens of complaints from virtually new posters in the BB and the same 15 resident clowns here to belittle them all.

Roach, might I suggest you call all squadmates into whichever arena is taking new numbers instead of trying to squeeze into the full one. It seems to work for 4thFG and we can get as many as 8 or 9 online together on rare occaisions.

First off, I've yet to see Early or Mid war arena's reach their  cap. So if your having trouble getting your squad together. Just head to either of those for a change. You might just find it refreshing.

Second, HTC has a long long history of drastic sweeping changes with little or no notice. The last big one before this was the whole joystick setup/mapping tools. This one ticked ME off, because I used it daily teaching new people how to setup joysticks. So I walked away, took a break, disconnected the emotional response.

Came back a few months later to realize that while I may not like it as well as the old one, it does do more for more people, and as such it was a needed change.

Roach sir, same thing with this change. While you may be upset, unhappy, and PO'd right now, walk away for a few months. When you come back you too will realize that this change does more for more people, its a needed change. And its NEVER going to go back to the way it was.

Once you can accept that, you can see that everyone who is complaining about the issue is beating a dead horse. Your beating your head against the wall saying change this or I won't quit. The problem is no one cares if you beat your head against the wall. Your just going to beat your brains out.

Its a dead issue, this is the way it is, it won't change back. Its deal with it or leave time. THATS why your getting so much sarcasm from all the regulars.

There simply are more options, both as a squadron, and a single player. More options is a good thing long term for the game.

If you still have concerns that you feel have not been addressed by all means call Dale.  Best bet I've found is to catch him around 10 am central time. He's usually there and isn't buried in code up to his ears yet. Be respectful, remember its HIS sandbox we are playing in. And he's been doing this a LONG LONG time.

EW, MW and LW  is a good idea. Kind of a rolling plane set.

Though it looks like 2 LWs don't work better than 1, numbers wise.

But: it's reasonable that HTC let it be like it is now for some tours to get reliable data.

I bet that we'll end up with 1 EW, 1 MW and 1 LW at Xmas.

roach...if you and mr nogame really play this game even...

You want people to be respectful yet.... it is a game where the gameplay was so bad that one hell of a lot of people here were sick of it and thought it was a slum...

Now...you come on and say that you want to return to that slum where your (and 20-100 of your closest internet friends) style of gameplay will still have the abiltility to ruin gameplay for all these people again... you pout and threaten to hold your breath till you turn blue if you can't go back to what is essentialy... bad behavior.

Now you expect us to not mess with you?  We are glad you can't ruin gameplay as much or as easily...  biggles is excellent in fighters he has offered to help.  Take him up on it... buy a joystick... get an account and try the game even... both you and nogame get an account even and try to get into the spirit of things.

Lazs,

I have had an account, 2 of them at one point (1 was a gift to my brother in Texas) for 5 years.  People are here saying they want to stay.  Say what you will but one of the major selling points when marketing this game was the MASSIVE multiplayer aspect.

There are thousands of players in this game who are in Squadrons who actually work TOGETHER and enjoy gameplay that way going all the way back to the early days of AirWarrior.  (I have been in an online squadron since the DOS OS - Red Baron 1 on ImagiNation Network) Your answer seems to be that we need to leave the game.  We do not want that but it could happen... there are options Sir.  Perhaps if all of the larger (so-called toolshedders) squadrons left the game maybe it would leave a nice quiet arena for you and the fellow furballers to just play with yourselves.

Lazs, here is a hint though... You can only say that a certain number of $15/month subscriptions are meaningless.  At some point, their impact will be felt.

guys, we aren't asking you to leave, we're asking for you to quit whining on the boards and opening SO many threads on the same topic.

we're trying to explain that no matter how much you dislike, threatening HTC with cancelling your sub will not make them change their mind, the arena changes were necessary.

but if you want to start an i quit movement, fine. i'd be happy paying double the sub fee if it meant that this particular crowd (whiny lazy bums) all left.

so stop threatening, and do what you want, but PLEASE don't keep whining about it!

Roach, you probally would not received some of the responses you did, if you did not title this thread the way you did.......

also, as a handful of others have mentioned, email support or call HTC......

another thing you could have done to avoid the outlashings might have been to post this thread in another section, like wishlist or the Help forum , possibly even tech forum.........who knows?

but one thing I can assure you, the General Forum for the most part is where all the naughty kids & Aces High wannabee Tough Guys ( read that as Lemmings ) hang out,  noone is home for them to outlash at or throw a tantrum toward, or they are pissed at their Boss at work so vent on someone at the other end of  a patch cable rather than risk the possibility of being fired because they do not have the balls to stand up to their boss! so they have to come to the GENERAL  Discussion FORUM and sling unnecessary remarks and comments..........:D

then you further promoted the mud slinging by threatening to so call report people for violating the BBS policys....... the same policys you even broke yourself by flamebaiting others......

now there is 2 different dot commands and also cross arena Text via Squad Channel ( dot commands are .f   to find a single persons location ) ( .sr to find location of everymember of your squad online, btw these commands do not work if you are in the Dueling Arena or the Special events Arena  from what I have experienced, they only work if you are in the TA/AvsA or any Main Arena )

plan your squad nights, and have a  plan B ready to go if find an arena filled up,  also think of joining in on Friday Night Squad Ops ( FSO events ), this is guaranteed to have your squad fly together and for a GOAL/Objective as a Whole Team ...........

there is my 10 cents worth to this Thread!

I wonder just "how many" were sick of it compared to "how many" liked the old setup?

All i have seen here on the BBS is the same vocal 15-20 peeps advocating the changes but many many more belittling them.

Would be interesting to know the figures..........:aok
