I heard about this documentary on some news blurb, on HBO starting November 2nd, called "Hacking Democracy" about electronic voting, and some questions as to the integrity of not only the machines, but the people running the companies who make them.
Having read some security articles about the vulnerabilities of the devices previously, specifically the Diebold tabulating software, I TiVo'ed it and finally got around to watching it on a lazy Saturday afternoon (today).
I honestly don't know what to say. I'm completely blown away. I know that these days it's considered 'unpatriotic' to question things and try to get answers that might not be what people want to hear, but I think that this particular topic is of interest to every red-blooded American, Republican, Democrat, whatever your political affiliation. If you care about your country, you should care about how voting is handled. This documentary says it's basically it's a disaster, vulnerable to just about every form of corruption you could possibly imagine.
You should watch this show and draw your own conclusions... It's on HBO pretty much constantly, and I'm sure it's on bittorrent by now.
And for the record, just in case my personal objectivity is questioned, I'm not affiliated or registered with any political party and I've served my country in the military honorably. I just think people should be informed enough to make their own judgements.
However I do believe that the right to fair and accurate voting is one of our most important rights in this country. Without it, where are we?
I know I'm going to get flamed as a 'tinfoil hatter', but whatever... I'm not so sure that handing over the voting process to a privately-held company that considers the vote counting process a trade secret is a very smart thing to do.

Kind of sad watching folks get literally pissed off at politicians, who could careless about the people getting pissed off in the first place.

well... since it is the democrats that constantly tell us that all the smart people and artistic people are democrats.... I think we ought to keep a clowse eye on em at the machines... surely the republicans are too stupid to sneak one by the brilliant democrats?

What's saddest to me is that so many people have swallowed the partisan BS hype and now hate 'the other side' so passionately, irrationally and intensely that they can't even have a civilized discussion about anything, instead resorting immediately to name calling and hate mongering.
That's really sad.
-
tell ya what.... get the democrats to stop trying to give my money to other people and have stop trying to take my guns away and I will stop being so passionate in my hate of them.

Sorry lazs, I'm afraid I'm not a Democrat... Can't help ya there.

scotty... where did I say you were a democrat? I simply said that the democrats are trying to infringe very heavily on my life and that so long as they do I will "passionately" fight them. If they leave me alone I would have no reason to hate them.

So lazs, are the democrats the only party heavily infringing on your life? To be succinct, they aren't the only ones trying to take your freedoms away, but it seems to me that as long as you have your firearms, you could care less about what the current administration takes away from you.
Your lack of lateral thinking is predictable

not at all true redbottom... I realize that republicans are taking away some rights too...
One has to weigh what is important to them... My whole lifestyle is different than the vision democrats have for the country. I believe that the democrats are socialists of a much higher order.
I believe democrats will raise my taxes and restrict my vehicles and not protect my private property rights and interpet the constitution in a "progressive" manner.
I believe that they will make the illegal immigration problem worse faster than the republicans.
I don't believe in abortion past the time a person is viable and I do believe in the death penalty. I don't believe child molesters can be saved.
I believe that they will pass more laws restricting my everyday life "for my own good" and... as a way to take more of my money... All problems are solved with a tax and the federal government using the money from global warming to overeating and my medical care.
As an individualist it is very apparent that the democrats are more of a threat to my way of life than the republican are.
You can add on to that... they want only the government to be armed... this is simply the last straw... they feel that the constitution and the second amedment is outdated... tyrants can't exist.. that only the government can be trusted with fireams.
Judging by their idea of utopia for us.... I would say that it is really understandable just why they fear an armed citizenry.

Well said, Laz.:aok
By the way, I believe a recent study, reference perhaps in the aforementioned documentary, found that paper ballots counted at the polling place are form of voting least succeptable to voter fraud.
-
Sabre, I really don't think paper votes will satisfy them either. Its because of the victim mentality. Even in the crackhouse precincts where Democrats appear to be edging ahead by supplying liquor and cigarrettes to anybody they can drag into the polls, they are suspiciously accusing Republicans of suppressing thier own vote in order to make it look like Dems are cheating so the Republicans can then cry foul and throw out the results and remain in power. That is how duplicitous they are.
In fact, that is why they are flooding those precincts with lawyers. So don't think they will be happy with paper, in fact, they actually only want to make it look like they want paper trails.
If you don't know where a Dem paper trail will lead, y'all aint been paying attention... most times, it will lead to a pee-stained mattress behind a dumpster at the end of an alley, or maybe a refrigerator carton under some via duct. Trust me, they don't want no paper trail.

Man, that's the craziest thing I've heard in a long time.

oh, so I guess its unpatriotic to bring things up?

Not at all, but if you start sounding like a nutjob, be prepared to be called on it.
You could reverse the republican/democrat and I'd still call that a crazy rant...
In a nice way, of course.

okey dokey :aok

Yea, that rant just described the last 6 years of republican rule except they raised the maximun allowable natl debt 2 times instead of whacking us with more taxes.
