All this talk about pizza and a sudden lack of seafood got me thinking about my favorite food. And not just any food but my personal favorite dish. The dish I'd have for my last meal if I was in Saddam's shoes right now.
There's a seafood restaurant at April Fool Point, Texas that is family run. They specialize in Gulf Coast seafood that is just amazing. There, you can get an appetizer that just makes me woozy thinking about it. The dish is called "torpedos" and what they do is take fresh, large jalapeno's, stuff them with seasoned crab meat and then lightly fry them. They are then served with small cups of a ranch-style sauce that you dip the torpedos in. Served with an ice cold beer it's unbeatable.
So, what's yours?

Lightly smoked pig's back with a brown sugar crust?
Or Fillet from a good bullock, BBQ'ed.

one favorite meal only!!! sacrilige!!! one of my favorites is a garden salad with olive oil and balsamic vinagrette, cuban bread, butter, just caught grilled yellow tail snapper with white rice, red beans, string beans and peas or other favorite vegetables and legumes. a nice california chardonet to wash it down with. for desert a nice flán and a cup of espresso followed by some cognac, preferrably remi martin vsop.
that's what lunch will be today I hope. then a nice nap.
I could also be easily talked into a nice paella valenciana with surprising little arm twisting.
ahhhhh food!

Salmon with new potatoes and not much addons and gadgets to ruin the taste. Tastes even better if you can cook it on an open fire next to the river you caught it on.
Finish it off with coffe made in a pot over the same fire.
Simple and yummmmmmmmy.
-
Real Lamb Chops, not those pansy little lollipop things. Arm Chops. And then a baked potato.
It's simple to do, but hard to perfect.
-
Its really hard for me to name one specific favorite food. I have different favorite foods depending on what mood I am in. Right now its Hamburgers and fries

If they hang me midday, i go for a real Bavarian Breakfast:
Some Weisswurscht (white veal and herb sausage) with bavarian sweet mustard,
soft pretzel normally hand-sized and a Weissbeer, prost!
Summertimes, we start some sundays this way and its just great! :D

Slow roasted prime rib, marinaded in Jack Daniels, rubbed in spices, and basted with a mushroom sauce, served rare.
Mushroom sauce with plenty of the whole mushrooms on the side.
Loaded baked potato.
Dark bread.
Good lager beer.
If I want something out of the ordinary it could be:
Real Italian lasagna, or if I'm too lazy to cook that, spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs. Either made from my Italian aunt's recipes.
Or maybe if I'm in the mood for German food, some sort of sauerbratten, or wienershnitzel. My grandfather was German, I have the recipes his mother passed on to my grandmother. Some sort of German dish with veal or venison.
Good old southern barbacue, I have several of my own recipes, ribs, or shoulder (pulled).
Smoked brisket, or maybe a smoked venison roast. I have various recipes.
My own home made chilli, very hot.
-
cheeseburger in paradise, french fries and cold draft beer. :D
-
Filet Mignon. Rubbed with salt, peper and garlic and grilled to a nice medium rare, by me.
-
Tartar steak.

No thanks. Prefer my steak cooked. Something just doesn't seem right eating it raw.
Tonight I will be dining at a Ruth Chris Steakhouse. hmmmmmmmm

Dago, are you saying a nice mass of bloody red meat decorated with egg yoke, fine herbs, onions and something spiky like a well made pepper or mustard sauce and/or Worcestershire, doesn't make your mouth water? :D
Another favorite is a choice of fruits, like grapes, kiwi, strawberry, apple, dry figs, with some Kiri cheese on homemade bread, dry sausage ("saucisson"), and a good red wine, for breakfast.

Did you try Cordon Bleu?

That sounds good to me! Now I'm hungry.
I also like simple....like a nice fat steak cooked over a charcoal grill, with a with potatoes cooked wrapped in foil with some butter.
Yummy.

"I really love Iraqis, i could eat a couple of them in one sitting." - Charles Bronson
personally i find nothing better than a very well prepared, homemade chille and rice. in case of confusion thats spicy mince meat with onions, peppers, mushrooms, kidney beans and tabasco sauce.
-
Oh yeah that sounds yummy too ByeBye.
I like to keep it simple. If it takes too much time to make a dish and the addons take away too much of the flavor of the main course then its not for me.
Simple and tasty gives you time to enjoy the food and not just spend alot of time making it and then cleaning up later.

Two favorites:
Chili--In my 25 year personal QUEST to find the perfect chili--sadly, the ones I made were really good---but not PERFECT. I have found the PERFECT chili---SO GOOD--it won $20,000 1st Prize in a contest a few years back...the recipe is:
http://www.recipesource.com/soups/chili/03/rec0349.html
My ONLY deviation is to double the amount of chili powder--otherwise FOLLOW THE RECIPE TO THE LETTER!
If you are trying to lose weight, the next one is PERFECT---
Salsa-again, my salsas were so-so...but this one ROCKS!
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/516?id=516
My only personal deviations are is that I TRIPLE the amount of lime juice--and for those who like a slightly SWEET (along with HOT) I add one cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of cayenne powder....otherwise follow the recipe to the letter.
I would make two GALLONS of this at a time and my teenage girls would EASILY wipe out a gallon in a week.
You will SWEAR this salsa is restaraunt salsa...make it JUST ONCE, and you WILL NEVER buy store bought salsa again.....no joke...
I made this salsa for an executive chef I worked with once, and he asked ME for the recipe....
Enjoy!
