When I interned during high school at the museum, there was a rumor that because the ship had remained in the same spot for so long, it was somehow "attached" to the bottom of the river through the accumulation of river materials...  ?  This must be what they meant!

Demolished? Which idiot brought that idea up. Great, im not a big fan of George Bush or certain americans but. Still, that was a floating hero. 1 Torpedo hit, 3-5 kamikaze hits, and 7 bomb hits. The floating ghost the japanese called it and there tearing it apart? Visited it about a year ago, great place to learn for the younger ones and meet some vets aboard. Nice planes and such aboard. Im actually a little bit sad among pissed, hurts to see such a nice ship go.

And if you haven't seen it, ive got plenty of pics just ask, heres a few.

In the last photo, unfortunatly the towers are missing, just doesn't feel right, nothing in that chunk of sky. That visit made my trip worthwhile ontop of other things. Sad that none can see it anymore.

Edit: I touched the Huey, Cobra, SR-71, F-14 and F-16 :D

I was on that ship when it was in mothballs at the Philadelphia Navy Yard many moons ago.  Haven't see her since she was made into a museum.

Even so, my visit was most impressive!
