i recently discovered the expanded stats. it's pretty cool to dig thru and look at what planes you do what in, what planes you have a hard time against, etc. etc.
i noticed that i had a "killed by" stat for a chute. does that mean someone shot me down with a .45????? if i end up in a chute, i always pop shots off at passing planes, but i dont actually expect to hit anything or do any damage. i don't however chute shoot folks if i'm in a plane. IMO it's bad form, even though i get shot in a chute quite often.
this led me to another thought, silly, but a thought nonetheless. if you are in an american plane, bailing with a .45 would be historically accurate i think. but what if you are in a russian plane? anyone out there know what countries issued what PDW's to their pilots? i also am pretty sure the germans had lugers in 9mm. anyone?

the vast majority of those kills are proxy kills. your enemy crashes under your feet while you are still gliding to the ground with your chute: proxy kill.

Once while trying to cap a field, I was shot down and was able to succesfully deploy my chute. I landed right next to a hanger that was spawning fighters. Being ticked off at me getting shoot down, I fired my .45 at planes who were rolling out of the hanger and I was only about a plane length away. I must have hit two or three of them and a couple seconds later, a got a kill message. Must have crashed into a hanger on takeoff.
It would be cool to have a luger for German pilots and a revovler for British ones.

Is it possible to get into a gun fight between pilots if they've bailed out?
Can a pilot with a pistol gun down paratroopers after they've been deployed?

Yes.
And yes.
Actually, bailling after a duel and doing the "rematch" with .45 at 20 paces can be a lot of fun ;).

Pilots in chutes are good target practice, plus, watching silk and flesh explode like TNT is amusing.

I've heard that best results are obtained when shooting at canopy...a 0.45 round into the pilot head is instant death for the poor bloke.
My favorite exploit for pilots came shortly after the 0.45 was added. Some enterprising fellow parked his pilot on the runway, right at the aircraft spawn. Since he counted as an enemy "object," the when somebody clicked the button to start flight he immediately collided with the pilot. Since the plane died before it cleared the spawn process, the pilot's front end never saw a plane to collide with...so he was undamaged. I've forgotten how many kills he got, but the gloating and belly laughs were sure memorable! (HT has since closed this loophole, though)

During a base capture, ever hear someone ask if the maproom has been strafed?
There is a reason for this . . .

I'm never in a chute. As soon as I bail out I type .ef
Gotten really quick at this I can bail out close to the ground :) Helps if you get shot down a lot, I can type .ef in my sleep.

I just programed a macro for it on my stick so I hit a button and poof tower. :)
I originally did this for those real fast belly landings when there is a guy on your 6 trying to vulch you befor you can hit tower.

Ahhh, chute shots. I posted about this a little while back. I thought it was in bad taste, until someone mentioned spying. Think about it....someone floating over your field can relay back info about aircraft types and directions. Flying a plane keeps you busy...chasing or evading. Floating in a chute allows you to SPY. Every time I have bailed high near enemy, I've been shot out of the silk. Now I kill every one I see. If I bail, it's loooow.
Just be careful, I've flown through a chute and it killed my engine. :lol
