Did I hear, "Impeach"?

Democrats wouldn't have a leg to stand on if they chose to impeach Bush, it isn't like he did anything really awful like cheat on his wife.
-
I'm all for bush, yet I think their gonna come after Bush since the republicans went after Clinton:
NSA Wire Taps...
War in Iraq (Too many people think we shouldn't be there)...
Border Security...
Lower Taxes.
Of course they want higher taxes!:noid

Howard Dean was on The Daily Show last night and he made it sound like there were no plans for any impeachment process or long, drawn-out investigations of the administration.

i don't think there will be either. unless something really obvious and undeniable comes up. they all voted for the war too.
hell, even clinton supported it.

I for one, am happy that democracy prevails in this country, where if one is disenchanted with a situation, they can vote out their congress persons or senators.
Now, if you voted because you're disenchanted with the Iraq situation, don't think that anything will change for the next 25 months because last I checked, the POTUS still has the VETO stamp on his desk.
As for me, I voted for 1 democratic congressman from the State of Washington, so I am not as partisan as many of you make me out to be (Hi bananas! ;) ) I voted for another Democrat 4 years ago as well. However I vote the issues, not the passion that the media pushes onto the masses as they have in this election (Iraq) because only a fool would think that the Iraq situation will change with Congress and Senate having a Democratic majority. Cut and run won't happen, as much as the press wants you to believe that.

If the Democrats decide to force the issue on Iraq, with the current control they have it is possible for them to force the issue by controlling the flow of funding.
The press doesn't necessarily want you to believe the Democrat's strategy is cut and run. If they did, you'd damned sure hear a lot more of it.

Good points, Virgil.
I loved this quote from James Lelek:
At the end of the day, some pundits detect a sea change: Jesusland has come to its senses and become Rosie O'Streisandland.
Fear has given way to Love.
The great unspoken national sympathy for the Dixie Chicks has finally asserted itself.
Coast to coast, state by state, people are waking from the long national nightmare and deciding that we're undertaxed, under-aborted, under-regulated, under-indicted and something else, about Katrina -- under-levied, perhaps?
We're certainly over-macaca'd. No one really knows what "macaca" means, but it's the mysteries that give life its sweet allure.

I am darn near a "yellow dog Republican." All I kept hearing was that we needed a "change." I am opposed to "change." What I would support is progress. "Change" for the sake of "change" accomplishes nothing.
Least government is best government. IMHO

I look at this whole thing as pretty good for our country. I'm also a Republican so let me explain here. The Democrats spent allot of time yelling about change, and Bush is evil and everything else. When asked what their plans were you'd get a bunch of "We need a change" but no real plan was ever outlined.
So, they win this MID TERM election and now have a slight majority in the House and Senate. In two years when the BIG elections come up the people are going to see if the Democrats have been able to do anything worth while or just continue down the road they've been on of blaming the Republicans for everything.
I have a feeling the next 2 years are going to make the next elections very interesting when people start looking at what has or has not been delivered by the Democrats.
I was amazed by the DNC's webpage. No plan, no goals outlined, just artical after artical about what was wrong with the Republican party. The GOP webpage by contrast actually had the issues laid out and the partys position on those issues defined. Goals were laid out and the reasons behind them.
Maybe it's just me but every die hard Democrat I've ever met has only been able to do one thing well and that's point a finger at something or someone and tell me "they" are at fault and "they" are the reason the country is so messed up. Whenever I'd ask what the Democrats planned to do to fix the problems the usual answer was along the lines of "The first thing we have to do is fix what "they" broke". That would continue in a relentless circle untill I'd get so frustrated I would walk away.
But like I said. I'm glad they won. They have 2 years to prove they can do more than finger point and lay blame. Show me some positive results and I might be impressed but I don't see it happening.

Au contraire, if you do alittle research, you'll see that I stated in 2003 that we need to establish a stable gov't in Iraq within 2 years and secure the country, otherwise we're wasting our time. I do think having us over there fighting terrorism in the backyards of Iran is certainly better than over here, but I would have expected to have Iraq secure by now. We do not. Time for the Dems to put up or shut up, and do something the Republican congress/Senate could not.
Certainly you don't expect our (I say OUR because you're a foreigner) democrats to sit on their hands, do you?

I have yet to respond to the election en mass BUT, here's my 2 cents.
Yes it was a major blow to the rebulicans. They got owned because the people do not want a spend spend congress who is corrupt to boot.
If you look past the congressional elections there where many conservative victories out there. These matter more to the little guy than electing some suit to go to DC and do the bidding of D/RNC.
For example:
The GOP lost. Conservatism prevailed. "San Francisco values" may control the gavels in Congress, but they do not control America.
-Property rights initiatives limiting eminent domain won big.
-MCRI, the anti-racial preference measure, passed resoundingly.
-Congressman Tom Tancredo, the GOP's leading warrior against illegal immigration--opposed by both the open-borders Left and the open-borders White House--won a fifth term handily.
-Gay marriage bans won approval in 4 states.
-And as of this writing, the oil tax initiative, Prop. 87--backed by deep-pocketed Hollywood libs, is trailing badly in California.
Just a few bright spots in this election. Again as said before democracy prevailed above all and that is a great thing. The American people have spoken.

Because of such narrow margins, this, and any election based on the current voter turnout, is just a wash - 50% this, 50% that - apparently we don't know what we want. . . maybe these toss ups should go to the independents.

Well, the Democrats won, I'll be waiting for the change, last good change we had here was when Mt Trashmore got the facelift

I musta missed that part where they promised any "progress" other than repeal the tax cuts and raise minimum wage. As the supposed "progressive" party all I've ever seen them do is try to protect failed Democrat programs like affirmative action, high taxes, and the welfare state. Can anyone name a successful Democrat program or plan that's passed in the last 30 years, other than to successfully cast US elections as the most corrupt in the world, and except when they win of course.:lol

Now that the dems are in control of the House and Senate, no American will go jobless...No more taxes to the lower class...Salary CAP of $73,000 a year, so we disband the "income class system". War on Terrorism/Iraq will be over in a month....Osama Bin Laden will be caught...We will have a new source of energy within 14 months, and all street signs will be in both english and spanish so we can be culturally sensitive

He was impeached for two counts, lieing to a grand jury and obstruction of justice. Only the second President in US history to be impeached.

He was acquitted on both counts.

An impeachment is nothing more than formal allegations. It's the trial that matters, not the charge.

Ok, so he was impeached by the House...so he wasn't impeached? What are you saying? He wasn't removed from office, no, but he WAS impeached by the House. That's all that Dago said, that Clinton was impeached...and he's right.
-
"Bill Clinton was impeached on December 19, 1998 by the House of Representatives on grounds of perjury to a grand jury (by a 228–206 vote) and obstruction of justice (by a 221–212 vote). Two other articles of impeachment failed — a second count of perjury in the Jones case (by a 205–229 vote), and one accusing Clinton of abuse of power (by a 148–285 vote). He was acquitted by the Senate."
From the Wiki.
-
Sure, he's right that Clinton was impeached, but it doesn't really mean anything because he was acquitted.
Formal accusations are still just accusations.
-
If it doesn't mean anything why are you making something of nothing (in your opinion)?
-
Actually, I'm making nothing of a statement you think means something.
-
An impeachment does mean something to me. I am sorry to see it means nothing to you.
-
I could point out the facts of Clintons behavior, including his disbarrment by the Supreme Court for his illegal conduct (while in office).
-
Nevertheless.
Clinton was acquitted.
-
Clinton was impeached too.

What of it?

So why even have a two house impeachment process???? Maybe we should go right into the trial with the senate, because according to you, the investigation and filing of impeachment by the house isn't legitimate.

And yes, it does mean a lot...Thoughout the history of the US Presidency, only two out of 43 have been found to have impeaching grounds by the US House.....Hey...Maybe Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were just really special :aok :aok

Andrew Johnson was also acquitted.

The Articles of Impeachment are the accusations. The Senate conducts the trial.

I didn't say illegitimate. I said meaningless. Accusations aren't the same thing as convictions. This just in.

Yes???? The house does in fact investigate, and if legitimate grounds for impeachment are found, impeachment is filled by the house, and moved onto the Senate for trial.....

LOL, so was Michael Jackson. Wanna let your kid go over for a sleepover?
Seriously though, it is time for a change. The Republicans have screwed it up royally in many areas, might as well toss it to the Democrats for a while.
Frankly I am just as disgusted with the present administration as I was with Clinton's. And while a Nancy Pelosi run House doesn't exactly fill me with the warm fuzzies, booting Rumsfield does.
Oh, hi Thrawn, banana, and Rip!

I think we'll need Drunky before we can begin the Apocalypse... or maybe Weasel.
-
Now Sandman... I'm sorta on your side on this one... sorta.
Baseless accusations can be made about anything. However, acquittal does not equal innocence. I don't really want to get into another "It's all Clinton's fault" discussion, 'cause it ain't. It is fair to state Clinton's perjury is a matter of public record. Acquittal or not, he broke the law. Enough about ol' Bill.
My real reason for posting is to make good on something I once said... that if the Republicans behaved just as badly as the Democrats had prior to winning control of government I'd just as quickly condemn them and call for their ouster. Well, I am a man of my word. It's hard to imagine the party screwing up any worse, and I'm ready for the nightmare to end.
About the best thing that can be said for the Bush administration is they managed to pick a couple of very qualified judges for the Supreme Court. Beyond that I can't see much else going for them.

Yeah, sure. Back in the late 70's my dad split and left my mom with 4 kids. She had to get state help. It wasn't a collect a check kind of thing, you had to train for a career. She chose to learn soldering and schematics, was hired by raytheon right out of training and never looked back. Worked two jobs to support us, says her lowest point was having to go on welfare.
All her kids do pretty well, own their own homes and live clean lives. I would say it was a pretty good investment by the state.

Well,
If you look a little deeper, Pres Clinton took a deal (after he was out of office) of to get out of the court hearings. Keep looking you'll find it if you want to.
Everyone can stop worring, the Congress will be locked up in battles in under 1 month and everyone will hate each other (Dems and Reps that is) just the same and Washington will go back to normal.
And I say to thee..... /// That's America B#@CH \\\
