was driving down the highway near my house when i and all of the other cars on the road with me nearly hit the two rottwieller pups that were running in and out of the road.
needless to say i picked them up, then took them home and got leashes on them and walked them everywhere within a half mile radius of where i found them. i was hoping they would show me where they live. they didnt. but they dragged me enough to get some good exercise.
now i get to make a bunch of signs and put them up all over the place and hope that the owners see it.
just about everyone that i ran into told me that they would be happy to take them...they are beautiful, and sweeter than heck...(one male one female...neither fixed...female has saggy teets)
figure i have to give it a few days before i try to place them or turn them into a shelter. no doubt they would be adopted...but if i lost my two dogs (and i have) i wouldnt want them to go to a shelter and lose them.
they are a bit skinny so i am wondering if they even have one anymore. (could be one of the mexicans who got sent away...nevermind...they dont get sent away anymore..)
anywho...
they are over in my art studio now...eating old dog diet food and living the life of bohemians.
am i doing the right thing?

Take them to a vet and see if they are chipped. It's a longshot, but it's a shot.

They truly pups?
I doubt the female is, having sagging teets, she either has or had a litter of pups.
Feed them something better then a 'diet' food.
I say keepem at your art studio, if they get plenty of socilization, and training, they can be great dogs.. just like any dog.
Takem to the vets aswell, if their chipped, might be able to find their owner..
Pick up some Science Diet A/D while your there if the dogs are starving, it looks like **** but it's a high nutrient diet.

Yes your doing the right thing. Its not the dogs fault the owners are ******s.

Many shelters DO NOT allow Rotties to be adopted once they are dropped off. It is VERY common for them to accept the dogs, never tell the person who brings them, and simply put them down if no one comes who can prove ownership. They WILL NOT tell you if you do not put them on the spot and force them to. The other risk is that some shelters do a lousy job of making sure the dogs get a good home with good adoptive owners. They often end up in the hands of people who for any number of reasons have absolutely no business with those dogs.
If you cannot keep the dogs, then turn them over to Rottwieller Rescue. A quick search on the Internet will put you in contact with them. So long as the dogs are not out of control those people will find them a GOOD home.
My older female just walked up and laid her head in my lap, then poked my arm with her cold wet nose. She wants my attention now, I think it's dinner time. The younger female is trotting about with a goofy "smile" on her face. She is a rescue dog, and was terribly abused. She is amazingly good natured, and is only a problem when the two get together and decide to try to determine who the alpha female is. But she still eats like she thinks she'll never see another meal.

Good for you JB...Seriously, you are a very good man...Like someone said earlier, try and find out if they have the dog chip....
Either way, your doing the right thing...I had a dog that got off his leash, got lost in the woods, and was returned home 6 days later by a stranger who found him.....Hopefully there is some worried family, waiting for their return too...

JB, if the female has "saggey teets" she may have pups somewhere. Although she may have recently weaned them, cause the moms dont usually get that far from their pups. Take'em to the vet and check them out. Vet could tell you their ages. the male may be one of the female's pups too.

roger that. no shelters. okay.
i don't think that they are adults because they are relatively small still. (i can easilly pick them up.
they know basic commands too. SIT. NO. GET IN THE CAR. very good natured.
one of the sweet little devils just shat on the floor of my studio. how lucky am i?
there were leaves in the poop and it was uber runny. i am guessing that they have been out for awhile.
put up signs..if i havent found the owners in a few days, i might put word out that i am trying to find a home...i will definately look up the rot shelters mentioned. glad to know these things.
i have a neighbor who is a vet so i'll see if he will pop over and give em a once over.

p.s. - i have two german shepards that are older than dust...never really appreciated just how "zen" they are until tonight...wow.

Not sure I could handle rotties. There used to be one (male, think about 9 months old) that would give me the cold stare from his porch when I was alone, turn into a fluffy bunny whimpery puppy when I was with my lilttle daughter.
Sweet as hell with her, but those jaws...

1 paperback copy - one hundred years of solitude.
1 pillow from my couch
1 pair of my socks that i gave them while i ran out to put up signs only to come back and find shredded objects along with socks.
could have been muuuuuch worse.
looks like i am sleeping in the studio tonight.

I only find that funny now because my black lab was sick when he was real young. Had ^^ that problem.

my dogs have gotten out before and people have taken them in.
would have broken my heart to have lost them that way.
