Title: HELP, Can't Use Help without locking up
Post by: ptarthur on November 01, 2001, 12:45:00 PM
When I am in the tower and click on the help button this takes me to the Internet based help screens.  After I find what I am looking for and attempt to go back to the game by clicking on "Aces High" down on the task bar, I get a white screen with a small box labled Aces High in the upper corner but nothing else.  No matter what combination of keys I press, nothing happens.  Pressing Cntrl ALT Del will not even display the tasks running, I have to power off and reboot to regain control.  All other game play seems to work fine.

Any idea what the problem could be ?

Thanks

NOt without more infomation.  What OS are you using, what video card, what DX version, what video driver version?

Try using alt-tab to switch back instead of clicking on Ah in the task bar.

I'm using windows 98, my video card is a STB velocity 128, the driver is version 4.10.01.7175 dated 6-13-2001. As best as I can remember I am using DirectX version 7.0 but I'm not real sure where to look for that.

I'll be sure to try the Alt tab keys but I think I did already try that.

Thanks

Alt Tab yeids the same result. I lock up when I go to help from the game, in flight or from in the tower. If I go to help from the screen just before you log into Aces High, no problem there.  Could this be an issue caused by my particular brand of Video Card ?  The STB 128 uses NVIDIA drivers by the way.

Since you are having problems, I think it's time for you to go to Direct X 8 and to a good stable build of the nVidia detonators.

I recommend you try the 7.78 WHQL Detonators for Win 98.  The later model Detonators don't seem to work well with older model cards.
