Title: Virus Scan Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files
Post by: Toad on November 09, 2006, 08:23:12 PM
Away from base trying to get my 85 year old father's computer cleaned up.

I've been trying to run a virus scan on it TrendMicro/Panda/Avast.

Avast will run and finish..it found one.

However, both Trend and Panda get into the IE Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5 and they seem to endlessly loop there. I've left it running all night and it's still working the same folder in the morning.

Can I just delete everything in that folder?

BTW, I've switched him to Mozilla Firefox and that should help a bit.

Still want to run a scan on the whole system though. I've even thought about a delete of IE totally but I'm not sure it that will goof up his Outlook E-mail.

Thoughts?

Have you (from IE) done Tools>Internet Options>General>Delete Files>Delete all off-line content? That should clean all un-necessary  off-line content out. If you've already done that, you may want to give MS Defender a try.

Yes it is possible to delete the whole IE temporary folder. There's nothing worthwhile and if it breaks IE in the process, you're a better person after that. :D
