Two Wise County residents have been arrested in connection with a burglary at the home of Denton County Sheriff Benny Parkey.

Denton County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tom Reedy said investigators were led to the home of William Kyle Denton, 17, of Rhome after he forged checks stolen from Parkey’s home Oct. 26.

Investigators were given consent to search Denton’s grandmother’s home, where Denton was staying. Inside the home, officers found an AR-15 rifle which was later confirmed to be one of several guns stolen from Parkey’s home.

Denton and Christopher Shawn Wacasey, 27, of Decatur agreed to talk to investigators and both admitted to burglarizing Parkey’s home, according to the arrest affidavit.

Denton showed investigators where two more guns stolen from Parkey’s home were hidden in the house. The serial numbers on all three guns had been altered.

According to the arrest affidavit, investigators were notified Nov. 2 after four checks from the checkbook stolen from Parkey had passed through the First Financial Bank in Boyd on Oct. 30. The checks were from Parkey’s campaign account, and all four had been made out to Denton. Denton’s grandmother said Denton told her “that he had been doing some day labor for Parkey and he had paid him with the checks,” according to the affidavit. Since Denton did not have any identification, his grandmother had co-signed the checks.

Denton and Wacasey apparently broke into Parkey’s home, located in Krum, by kicking in a door around 2:15 on the afternoon of Oct. 26. Reedy said the two had a slim window of opportunity that day.

Reedy said investigators do not have reason to believe that the two men were targeting the sheriff, although the investigation is continuing with more people being questioned in connection with the burglary.

“I couldn’t imagine, however, they wouldn’t have known once they got in there that it was the sheriff’s house,” Reedy said.
:rofl :rofl :rofl
I do have to wonder why the sheriff didn't have a gun safe.
