Title: Are you freakin kidding me
Post by: TheEvilHawk on November 14, 2006, 03:56:43 PM
I am just curious if the game is programed to take control of my freakin plane and freakin slam it into the freakin ground at 200 freakin mph from slightly moving my freakin joystick. I cant do a freakin thing. 95% of the time when I am trying to turn or get higher I get a message saying I am moving my controls too rapidly, even if I'm not even touching the freakin thing. If this is a part of the freakin game someone freakin tell me so I can freakin uninstall this freakin game.

calibrate in windows. Control panel-Game controls-Properties-Calibrate.
then calibrate in game. clipboard-options-controls-calibrate.
u need to do both.

have a FREAKIN nice day:)

Ive done both like 10 times, does no good. its getting worse I cant even freakin takeoff. I get ten feet in the air and the game throws it into the ground.

perhaps if you freakin asked nicely you might get a freakin answer from all these freakin people, who give up their freakin free time to freakin help freakin new guys like you? huh?

sounds like you need to calibrate your stick. have a nice day, sounds like you need one:aok

perhaps you should wait until you're in the air properly. if you're ten feet off the ground, you stick is calibrated and you're spinning into the ground, it's probably because you're yanking on the stick while travelling far to slowly, so you stall and crash.

if not, then make sure your stick is calibrated in windows, and then make sure you calibrate INGAME. if that fails, your stick might be the problem itself.

sorry for the freakin inconvenience (I cant spell) but this wasnt freakin happening freakin yesterday. This is like the 3rd freakin problem I have had with the freakin game and I dont mean to be freakin rude but I get freakin pissed when I have no freakin idea why my plane crashes into the freakin ground regardless of what I freakin do. It makes me want to punch a freakin hole through the freakin moniter. Now if anyone could give me any advice other than calibrate the freakin joystick, I would kis your freakin toes. Once again, sorry if I am bein freakin rude.

Yeah a Logitech Wingman, my bro said he has heard of people having problems with it on games like this. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://foto.spullenbank.nl/common/img/00/00/00/21/_T2156.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.spullenbank.nl/rs6/cl.asp%3Faction%3Dbrslt%26c1%3D7%26c2%3D2872&h=374&w=442&sz=21&hl=en&start=13&tbnid=_toLB96XDIkkwM:&tbnh=107&tbnw=127&prev=/images%3Fq%3DLogitech%2BWIngman%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D

Evil - start with auto takeoff set - leave the controls alone until you are up a good ways, hit x twice, it will disengage auto climb and put it on auto leveling.

once your air speed is well over 200, slightly move your stick to disengage the auto leveling aspect.

make slight movements with your stick, i mean slight, barely move it, make slow wide turns, get a feel for it, i would practice this offline first, if still causing quick snap rolls - you are either stalling out - taking up a plane that snap rolls very easily - for instance a 190 - these planes take some getting used to-- start with a spitfire - or a hurricane - very forgiving - go to the training arena- ask for help from a trainer - if no help - go into a main arena - anounce on channel 200 that you are new and would like some help in the training arena - there are many players who are willing to give up their free time to help- plus there are training staff members - try to hook up with one of them - one of my squadies - WMLute - is very helpful - you see him online and throw a request at him for help - NB - another great player to ask - like I said there are many who are willing to help -

Hook up with one of the guys who frequent this board.

you may want to try adding some deadband to your x and y axis. go to the window where you map your stick and highlight either x or y axis. then check the box that says advanced. move the dead band slider up a little. if that doesn't work then buy a new freakin stick.   (just kiddin about the buying a new freakin stick  thing  :D )

Yep EVIL, sounds to me that you need to set the stick up and recalibrate as well. You may have it set a little too sensitive. try damping it out a bit in game set up.

Also, as has been mentioned before, the logitech stick is basically a piece of crap. For the same price you can get a Saitek EVO which is a much more stable stick and has all the things you need on it.

What you are experiencing is a set up problem and a less than serviceable stick.  Pop into the training arena, there is normally help there.

Also, what Biggles said is true. Let the A/C get some speed before you start yanking and banking. It will fly if you let it.

Now....take a nice deep breath and have a freak'n happy day!;)

cheers,
RTR

it has something to do with online play cause it works perfect on offline practice. I am starting to doubt its my joystick and starting to think its this game.

Post by: TheEvilHawk on November 14, 2006, 07:45:06 PM
scratch that, now its totally haywire and even with the throttle off the plane goes off wherever it wants. I have no control over my plane. Only way I can stop it is by cutting the engine. this game has so many problems I am wondering if I should save my precious frustration for something else...

Why dont you drive to Best Buy, Compusa, or whatever computer store you have near you, and get a cheap non-Logitech joystick and try it out?
Also, how about reinstalling the game?
And last but not least, deselect the joystick as the controller, and try to use the mouse. If the plane flies fine with the mouse (as much of a pain as it is) it might just be something weird with the joystick.
Hope this freaking helps.  And in case you are wondering, the game is worth it once you overcome this hurdle.
We all eagerly await the chance to freaking shoot your freaking plane down as soon as you can freaking control its freaking flight.

The only way you will get the message about not moving your stick so fast is when the output of your stick is moving too fast.  If your not touching the stick, it sounds like you have a harware problem.

You are correct when you started thinking that its the game.  It is.  You are playing an on-line game with hundreds of other players.  If you stick output is that eratic, then we would see your plane flopping around like a fish out of water.

If you want to continue to use this stick, you may need to take some time adjusting each axis in the setup.  Turn down the sensitivity on the sliders, and increase the dampening until you do not get the message.  If you could sit and watch an experiance pilot play the game, you would notice they have very smooth stick movements, not jerky.  If your smooth enough with the movements, and you have some good hardware, you can increase sensitivity of the stick.

Another problem looks like anger management.  This game has a high learning curve.  It takes time to get your stick set up so you have good stable flight.  It take time to learn how to fly, then how to fight.  It takes time to learn each aircraft you fly and the aircraft you fight. You will be up against some of the best sim pilots in the world.  Your going to have to get some experince to do well here.  If you can't control your anger, this may not be the game for you.  If your up to the challenge, welcome to the unfriendly skies.

Yeah I think I am pretty much done with this game. Frankly, I dont think anyone thats not a complete tard in my position would say the same. My joystick works PERFECTLY with every other flight sim. There is no point in playing a combat sim where I cant use my joystick or the game decides its going to play basketball with my plane. I think its safe to say its the game, and that the game blows. Maybe some day in the future I would think of returning if whatever programer decides to make the game playable to people who DONT HAVE 25$ to go throw away on a joystick just to see if Aces High blows or not. Thanks for the attempted help of the Senoir staff and anyone else who tried.

So... did you try with the mouse? Or reinstalling the game?

I have to wonder if the stick was ever recalibrated inside AH?  That has caused me problems before.  The game is supposed to be playable with a mouse.   Ah well, AH isn't for everyone.

Nothing will dispel enthusiasm like a crummy joystick.

TheEvilHawk, you are the only one having this problem out of the thousands of people who do play it. They don't have the same problem and you conclude it's the game?
Don't blame the game for your problems.
Only thing that describes that is an uncalibrated joystick.
Like they said above, calibrate in Windows first, then Aces High.
Try it again after calibrating.

Did you even hit the default map in the Map Controllers section?

Yes,  I found that under 'getting started'.  While I have never played using a mouse (and doubt I ever will), yourself and fuzeman are listed as contributors to the mouse controls documentation.   Are you saying the game still has to have a joystick, and AH is going to require another controller interface 'upgrade' in the future to fully enable mouse controls?

No, Mouse flying is fully functional at the moment, as it has always been. So yes, it is playable without a Joystick - just not really recommendable.

I'd like to add my - uh, non-recommendation for Logitech joysticks.  I've never used such a bad joke of a "joystick" before.  If more of my enemies used them I would be a very great ace.

Ah, thanks for the clarification Schatzi.  I was under the impression the reason we went through the controls update (in April or May?) was for better mouse use.   I hope we get more warning the next time the AH staff does that again!  While I can appreciate AH wanting to expand its customer base, that upgrade was unpleasant.

TheEvilHawk: Is that a usb stick, sounds like you might be haveing a system conflict since it works fine offline. My guess would be with your net connection.

Are both your net and js USB perchance?

I am amazed at you people!  I think Hitech should give everyone in this thread who responded to this "person" a free month.  What patience and restraint!  I could not have done that.  I don't even want to think about how I would have handled this.
