Title: 4th painting: self portrait,
Post by: Russian on November 15, 2006, 01:07:39 AM
The entire goal of this self-portrait was to complete it with quick strokes, not photo-realistic style. I’m trying to apply as friend suggested style of   Sargent. (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=sargent&btnG=Search+Images)This probably took me less than 3 hours and two bottles of beer. Size 16 x 20 - acrylics.   (http://xd2.xanga.com/dd4d37240103489376456/w61916521.jpg)

Previous work:
1st painting...ever:   Geographical shapes.  (http://x60.xanga.com/081d100a4513477956105/w52858499.jpg)

2nd :   Still Life (http://x1e.xanga.com/165a67770813080758404/w55028400.jpg)

3rd : not finished - in progress.

That's a darn good painting.  Portraits may be the way to go for you.  That one looks good enough to enter in an art show.

Here's a suggestion.  Take a small brush and just barely touch the inner canthus area (tearduct) with cad red light straight from the tube.  Right where the eyeball meets the skin at the inner corner. This is best done while the paint is still wet.  Kinda gives the eye depth and defines that anatomy of the eye better.  Don't use much, just a very small dab'll do ya.  I mean barely any at all.  Might try that on the next portrait.

Nicely done!

the right side eye is spot on, the left side needs a better reflaction blob, like the one you did first. :)

You have talent Russian. Stick with it and perhaps one day you'll be famous. Of course you'll have to die poor and starving first. ;)

Here's my near-completed 5th painting. And yes, she is of age (27). And I do need to make her little fatter since she looks anorexic in this painting.

nice one, can we see her boo........ i mean face? ;)

thats not fat you have to add
she don't have waist line (is she asian?) , fix that (lower?) and all should be ok
are you going to add some kind of color accent? background is kind of boring

Sure...I show her.....face.....right after I draw your GF....nude ;)

Yes, she is asian: half philippino, half vietnamese. What do you mean 'color accent?" And background will have some work done to make it more 3D.
