Spam is a food. sorta...

Spam online is unwanted advertising. Usually found in email. It can also be posting a large number of posts in a row with no real content worth while.

Goldelks is the spammer. e-gold-investment.

nice try goldy, especialy 'i dont know what spam is' scene, that really gets you to look innocent, but infact that was so obvious that you gave the game away.

Spam is processed meat, all the smeggy crappy bits left over from the good cuts, all minced up then reconstituted to resemble something it really isn't.... tasty.
Internet Spam is similar. It resembles normal internet stuff... emails, posts, etc. but really it's just smeggy crap

another good reason to give Bulliten Board posting priveledges to game subscribers....

Basically, once they download the game, install the game  then get to enter  their call sign...have  a check box that says "subscribe to Aces High Bulletin Board" and leave subscribing as an option that can only be accessed from iin-game account settings...

They have the technology and the smarts to do that these days don't they?

Yeah, peice of piss...

<% If blnSubscription = True THEN blnBBoard = TRUE
Else BlnBBoard = FALSE
End If
If BlnBBoard = FALSE THEN response.redirect "http://www.hiteccreaetions.com"
End If
%>

You'd have write a stored procedure from to call data from 2 seperate databases but that isn't to tricky or resource hogging.

Of course, that's with .asp and this board uses .php, but the .asp Vs .php debate will continue to rage for a few years yet. As a coder, I prefer .asp and always will as my servers all have IIS  and MSSQL on Windows platforms. PHP runs on cheaper Linux servers, I believe NT is PHP compatible though. PHP is a ms faster..... I could go on.....

The overall coding though wouldn't be much longer or difficult, however, dissallowing access to membership of BB to all except supscribers is probably elitest and would deny us input from older members who perhaps don't fly anymore and yet have something to offer the community still.

It's prolly just a forum spam bot. Skuzzy needs to secure the registration process better it seems.

But that's the whole point - once they've gone through the registration - they'l always be registered for the boards....even if you don't play - you board handle would be the same as your game handle, Which would also do alot for shades accounts.

It's just having to download the game / set up an account to get to the bullitin board seems to be an easy way to lock out "bots" and most spammers.

Pretty much if you screw up and get PNG'd or what not - you have to download the game again and create a new account.

I'll be honest, If it were one of my boards, I wouldn't do it, but then my boards each have teams of Administrators and Moderators (I think there are Mods here but there identities are secret) and while they do get spammed on occasion from bots and disgruntled members there is always someone with the power - to delete and ban IP's - online.

However, populations are different. My largest board site having 30 Admins and 15 Mods overseeing >100,000 members.

Of course, the main reason I wouldn't do it is because it would stop Spiders visiting my site, which in turn would affect my Google ranking and ultimatly hurt my pocket as I recieve revenue from affiliated shops like Amazon and click through revenue from Google Ads. No search engine results mean less visitors to me and less visitors mean no commision from either of these sources.

AH doesn't require generated revenue from these sources so it is a different kettle of fish.

Skuzzy could probably just block the IP addy at the server, seeing as how there is nothing constructive in the posts. I'm sure it breaks several forum rules, and prolly even some legal one's if you dig deep enough.
