I had to go in the other day and I actually heard Christmas music. I liked it.

I haven't been in a Wal-Mart at all in the past 6 months and maybe twice in the past 18 months.
I avoid them if at all possible even if it means paying a little more to someone else.

i dont bother with it, what i want that they have is cheap garbage, what isnt cheap garbage i could care less about.

I hate walmart. Although, I do shop there sometimes. It's the thrifty part of me that gets sucked into the store, once there I swear never to return. But I do. In my defense, I don't buy much because of the hassle.

How did Wal-Mart ever become the world's largest retailer with focus group responses like this?

I only go to Walmart when I want to beat my kids.

Did you guys hear about Edwards and Walmart? Edwards had been criticizing Walmart for quite a while. Recently he asked his staffer to help him get a PS3 for his kids, and this staffer mistakenly called Walmart. Here's Walmart's press release today.
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Just like the millions of Americans who turn to their neighborhood Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT - News) for their holiday shopping needs, Wal-Mart announced today that former Sen. John Edwards is seeking to be one of the first to get a Sony PlayStation3, one of the most coveted holiday gift items this Christmas season.
Yesterday, a staff person for former Sen. Edwards contacted a Wal-Mart electronics manager in Raleigh, North Carolina to obtain a Sony PlayStation3 on behalf of the Senator's family. Later that night, Sen. Edwards reportedly re-told a homespun story to participants of a United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union-sponsored call about how his son had chided a fellow student for purchasing shoes at Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart welcomes Sen. Edwards to visit his local Wal-Mart store and explore the extensive line of home electronics as well as the Metro7 line shoes for men and boys.
The Company noted the PlayStation3 is an extremely popular item this Christmas season, and while the rest of America's working families are waiting patiently in line, Senator Edwards wants to cut to the front. While, we cannot guarantee that Sen. Edwards will be among one of the first to obtain a PlayStation3, we are certain Sen. Edwards will be able to find great gifts for everyone on his Christmas list - many at Wal-Mart's "roll-back prices."
:rofl

because there cheap, reasonably convienient, and most people like cheap semi-disposable crap.
and lets face it, everyone loves the old greeter hags

WalMart keeps us in business. Our customer numbers have gone up every year after the first year they started selling groceries. The sad side effect is more and more customers won't let us carry out their groceries. WalMart has trained people to do their own labor rather that have someone provide the service for them. People are embarrased to have someone do things for them.
We prefer to provide carryout for 2 main reasons: Good customer service and we can keep track of the shopping carts instead of them littering the lot. We don't even have a place to put your empty cart on the lot because it should have been brought inside by the sacker.
Strange we will be lazy enough to use a drive thru to get something to eat, but we want to lug our own groceries out to the car.

I personaly like Walmart's grocery store. They have much better vegetables and fruit than the other supermarkets in the immediate area. They are close, have reasonably priced products, and if you know what you are buying you can get a good deal on some good brand name stuff. I don't care much for the checkout procedure though, I agree, they need more cahiers.

WalMart's main problem is their meat market. You get what they have on hand, no custom cuts. They have stockers, not butchers. But, if all you want is a 5lb tube of cheap hamburger or a 5lb box of porkchops they're ok.
-
Walmart is not so bad. I usually go there to buy anything I need except when i'm looking for quality stuff.
Which is the whole point of wal-mart. Cheap crap by the pocketload.

Walmart is burning through alot of cash in Japan, as many foreign companies do, trying to teach another culture to do things their way. Of course it never works, but that doesn't seem to stop the never-ending parade of people who are hell bent on trying.
They've gone the route of investing into a grocery chain call Seiyu, which was a pretty nice chain before. Not low-end at all, it was classy with a great variety of fresh foods presented well.
Japan is still living in the 1960's in some ways. Married women rarely work. They stay at home to raise the children and do all the things around the house like you read about in old "Life" magazines. They go shopping for food every day, or every other day. A small hand basket of fresh food to be cooked and eaten that evening or maybe tomorrow, too.
That hasn't stopped Walmart from trying to turn the stores into unsightly places full of crap no one wants, piled to the ceiling in portions no one buys. I went to one the other day and saw they had American beef (very rare in Japan now) featured in a big display. The stuff was lousy cuts you wouldn't serve to a dog and black and green around the edges - rotten. The hamburger was saturated in water to add weight (like we're all so dumb to notice?) and, surprsingly, not too many customers. Hmmm...
They'll be gone from here in few years, just like all the others before them.
-
don't talk watermelon about walmart!
just kdding go ahead, they are a good store though. Great business men run it. They pwn the competition.
I live in cincy and over in indiana they have a walmart that runs the town. This is their way of life, if that closed then those people would panic and riot and chaos would ensue.
It is where the kids hang out on the weekend. They have walmart tatoos and chit. If you talk bad about it aroun d them they will beat you. don't mess with indiana walmarts.

Nothing wrong with Wal-Mart, I get stuff there, just not music, and being watch by the camera's doesn't bother me. I'm not wanted like some people :)
Although I wouldn't buy any food there at all, maybe some caned goods now and then but that s about all, If you want the best meat and un-caned food, go to Farm Fresh. Don't bother with Food Loin, they aren't exactly the cleanest looking around.
But wal mart has some good deals that are worth the money. but for most stuff I just go to the mall, parking lot is about the same amount of full

Yes they do. That's why they always have about 5 less checkouts open than they should; they are attempting to herd you towards the self-checkout. Theoretically each self checkout in a perfect world could replace 3 cashiers. I NEVER use the self-checkout. RPM is right; they are training us to do their job for them. Part of the shopping experience is the service. Part of the service is a friendly face to scan and bag my items, tell me my total and give me my change-have a nice day. Do I get a discount by doing all this myself?

you arent at all off the mark.
You know if you buy a pair of say "Levi" Jeans at a wallmart they arent the same as a pair you would get at say. "the Gap" or any other higher priced store.
they look the same. Carry the same label and style.
but they are a lessor quality version of what the other stores sell.
That is how they keep the prices down
There was a real interesting article a few years ago on "The Man who said no to Wall Mart"
I'll post the link to it but warning there is a long commercial like screen for something or other before it finally takes you to the page with the article.
so be patient
Anyway. one of the most telling snippets of the article was

Anyway. one of the most telling snippets of the article was
"
"The meeting started with the vice president of the category saying how it was clear that Lowe's was going to build their outdoor power-equipment business with the Cub Cadet brand, and how Home Depot was going to build theirs with John Deere," says Wier. "Wal-Mart wanted to build their outdoor power-equipment business around the Snapper brand. Were we prepared to go large?"
Talk about coming to the table with different agendas. Wier was in Bentonville to pull his mowers from Wal-Mart's stores. The vice president was offering a greater temptation: Let's join hands and go head-to-head against the home-improvement superstores.
Which is when Wier said no.
"As I look at the three years Snapper has been with you," he told the vice president, "every year the price has come down. Every year the content of the product has gone up. We're at a position where, first, it's still priced where it doesn't meet the needs of your clientele. For Wal-Mart, it's still too high-priced. I think you'd agree with that.
"Now, at the price I'm selling to you today, I'm not making any money on it. And if we do what you want next year, I'll lose money. I could do that and not go out of business. But we have this independent-dealer channel. And 80% of our business is over here with them. And I can't put them at a competitive disadvantage. If I do that, I lose everything. So this just isn't a compatible fit."
The Wal-Mart vice president responded with strategy and argument. Snapper is the sort of high-quality nameplate, like Levi Strauss, that Wal-Mart hopes can ultimately make it more Target-like. He suggested that Snapper find a lower-cost contract manufacturer. He suggested producing a separate, lesser-quality line with the Snapper nameplate just for Wal-Mart. Just like Levi did."
"My response was, we would take a look at that," says Wier. "The reason I gave that response was, it was a legitimate question. In my own mind, I knew where I'd go with that"--no thanks--"but at that kind of meeting you at least have to be willing to say, I'll investigate." And that was it. "The tone at the end was, We're not going forward as a supplier."
Anyway. Here is the lin to the article if anyone is interested

i know there were shootings at a walmart after some dude wanted to rob a guy of his money in the PS3 line. My family all were betting that it would be walmart that this happened at.

Get used to self-checkout. Embrace it. Scanning barcodes is easier than the keyboarding most of us already are used to doing for on-line ordering.
Once past a little initial familiarization, self-help is faster and more efficient. Some younger drivers already never have had anyone else pump their gas.
Cashiers are among the latest casualties of electronification. But there is still substantial demand for the traditional support jobs of stockers, helpers, go-fers and security.
-
Speaking of Wal Mart and Christmas Music...
Wal mart stated that it will be offering up Merry Christmas this year, and tossing out the Happy Holiday stuff.
-
so the PS3 that wallymart sells is not a real PS3 but some cheap version made in botswana? :O

Dont forget their meat is usually more expensive then other stores with the addition of less natoral flavoring

Unless Im in a HUGE rush. I will always avoid the self checkout for the casheir even though it may take a few minutes longer in line
Keeps people with jobs.
I've pumped my own gas. I have no problems with it.
but I live in a stte where it is actually illegal for you to pump your own gas.
Personally given my druthers.
Again Unless im in a hurry I'd rather let someone else do it.
Not for jobs though.
Mostly cause I dont feel like it. Particularly in the cold winters. Hot summers
Or rain storms

I'll tell ya why RPM, the art of bagging groceries and placing them carefully in a car is long gone.
I can't tell you how many zit faced 21 yr old single mother of 5 that was a cashier packed my dozen eggs on the bottom of the bag under my 5 lbs. can of coffee and my 6 cans of corned beef hash.
MMMmmmmm corned beef hash...but I digress.
And then once out to the car the bagger (sometimes a "special needs" graduate) would put my 12 frozen pizza's ontop of my loaf of bread. I hate that ****!!!

DAAAAAA you want me to carry your food you you? :rofl
Seems like wal mart likes to employ retarded people for greeters and stockers, or at least the one here does. Add up all the ones here and you wont have enough IQ to tie your shoe without drooling all over it first
-
Sorry to hear that Diablo. Our sackers are trained before we turn them loose on the customers. I can't stand to see a kid randomly jam things in a sack while talking to the cashier then just set the bags or basket in front of the customer for them to carry.
We try to provide premier customer service. Our rule is to offer twice before we let a customer carry their own groceries. That may sound a bit much but we are polite about it.
-
Well then I'd definitely go there. One thing I CAN'T stand is when a customer is standing there while the cashier is checking out the purchases and neither one of them is bagging. Typically, the customer will NOT bag and the cashier will only do it after the monetary transaction is completed. If there's no bagger I don't mind at all bagging my own. I just wish other selfish stupid people would do the same.

And somehow giving the "challenged" people something meaningful to do in their life is a bad thing? Sounds very "Democratic" to me! Perhaps a Government run and taxpayer financed home to keep them out of your hair?
Meatwad, you seem to hurt your argument with the addition of ignorance.
-
Ignorant or not, its the truth
Jobs in this area are getting hard to come buy with many of the factories shutting down. They need to go to the ones that have a family and trying to support them, not people that live in rubber rooms at the local crazy house
This walmart seems to believe retarded people are more importand then hard working normal people
-
who you calling retarded? you talkn to me?
-
People today don't want quality. They want quantity. They want to want into a store with a $50 and come out with 3 bags ,not 1. Even if its 3 bags of crap, its heavier than one bag and they feel better about themselves.

oh, they still get there group homes with personal attendants - its just they now spend there day pissing off the real employees and making customers uncomfortable, rather than being at a day center.

thats because only democrat women cant pump there own gas :aok
