I've had a number of collisions.....
Here is one where I take damage in tail....my text buffer showed the orange "you've collided" as well as the message that "Kristov has collided"...I can see no shot taken by him...it appears that he collided with rear of my plane and took us both out....I couldnt take image (can you capture single image from film??) so I posted the last minute or so....

Just hit the print screen button during film playback, and you can paste the screen shot as a new image in an image editing program.

If the film shows the collision , I do not understand what you think the problem is?

Where do the images default to, I couldnt find them....

there in what i think is called the"clipboard" so all you have to do is open Paint click in the white area and hit cntrl+v (the control key and the v key ) and it will say the image is too big .. then tell it to do it any way

You cant find them until you actually did paste them into an image editing program.
- Press "PrintScreen" when in your film viewer
- Close Film Viewer, open MS Paint
- Press Ctrl-V. You should now see your screenshot
- Now save that new picture to any folder of your choice

This is a still from the 109's view....if you watch the clip from his end he's actually looking back up into the sun for the guy shooting at him. No indication he fired at all.....but obviously could be a lag delay....but I can see no sprite...and theres a "puff" on the clip as we actually collide....
-
There's no way you should have gotten a "You have collided".
It's obvious in that screen shot that you were facing forward, therefore you did not "see" the collision. :D

Humble i looked at the film externally and fairly close to tail of your ac.
Your tail goes through his wing.
So you hit him and you took damage.

But obviously all he needed to do was send a potato my way:eek: ....but looking from his view he's looking away from me and all his other shots are clearly visable and audible....
His damage is spot on for the collision....

Thats exactly what it looks like to me....but AH is only supposed to access damage if I run into him....not if he runs into me....collison is on his "front end" and he hits the rear of my plane....

No Humble if your AC touches another on your front end you take the damage. And since I could see it in your film you hit him also.
Nothing has changed.

Thats not correct, if you run into the other guy you take the damage. Here the 109 driver is looking behind him and plows into me. There is no damage via my "front end" I got a you collided message (for some reason it doesnt show on the clip??)....but according to my understanding of the current damage model for collisions I should NOT have registered a collision on my plane....hence my post looking for clarification. BTW I actually favor a model that does damage both planes as it appears iss the case here.

Then you don't understand.
If at anytime your AC touches another on your front end for any reason ... YOU have collided and will take damage.
Since your tail touches his AC (on your film from your front end) your going to take damage.
What most likely happened is .
1 on his front end his nose hits followed by his wing.
he then takes damage.
2 less than a second later your tail hits his wing on your front end.
That's when your tail pops.
So once again nothing has changed.

Makes sense to me, but I think alot of folks are under the same misconception I was. So if he rams me and it shows on my front end (regardless of orientation) I take damage. My perception is that you took damage for "ramming" the other guy. You can actually be the "rammee" and take damage as well.....
Now i'm facinated by the apparent lag...he flys thru me and isnt affected for a period of time....then another fairly significant period of time elapses (in the internet world) before my FE picks up the ram. So both of us are seeing something that isnt and collide in a place neither or us is actually in :). In effect he "hit me" hundreds of milliseconds before I ever got there and was damaged before I even registered the collision that occured in a place i'd never even got to yet.....hehe.....

That right there is the understatement of the year :)

another clarification.
The film you took will ONLY show what YOUR computer saw on YOUR FE.
If you jump into THEIR plane on YOUR film, it is not showing you what THEY saw. Everything on your film is from your front end.
If you want to see what they saw on their FE, they would have had to film it, and sent it to you.
That's why HT said "If the film shows the collision , I do not understand what you think the problem is?" as your film, from your front end, saw a collision.
Which brings up an interesting thing to do, if you want to see how much lag affects this game.
Go fight a nice long duel with someone, and both film it.
Each of ya' email the film to the other and watch them back to back.
It's amazing how diff. the fight looks on both FE's.

What i would Like to see is one of these talented film makers do is a side by side of said fight.

The collision model does not work like the BFG from Doom 1. It matters not what you see in your 'window', all that matters is that your game front end (ie: the view of the world according to YOUR computer) saw the collision. There is no distinction between who caused the collision or who is at fault, tail vs nose etc.
The only question in a collision is "Do plane #1 and plane #2 occupy the same space at the same time" Both you and your opponents computers ask themSELVES this question. They do NOT compare notes.
If YOUR computer sees a collision, you get the message YOU HAVE COLLIDED (you are assessed damage)
If the OTHER computer sees a collision, you get the message XXXX HAS COLLIDED WITH YOU. (you are not assessed damage)
if you see both messages it means that both of you saw the collision and both take damage.

Just thought I'd mention an incident that happened to me tonight.
I was coming up under a pair of P-38s in a shallow zoom with a moderate closure rate, at about their 4 o'clock low. I hosed the wingman at about 400yds. His tail broke off and I had a clear view of his wreckage as it tumbled off to my LEFT hand side--close, but PLAINLY out of my line of flight. I rolled slightly right to clear my left wing and slide into a firing position on his leader, as I continued my zoom and pulled above the wingman as he went down.
All the sudden I get a "You have collided" message, my plane snaps over to the right and I find out that my RIGHT WING has been taken completely off. There were only two aircraft within anything APPROACHING that sort of distance of my bird: The lead 38 about 400yds still ahead of me, and his wingman who bailed or died from a PW at the same time the collision was recorded.
Now I wish I'd gotten a recording of this sortie (the camera is EVIL. It makes my plane blow up within seconds of entering a fight) but because of my approach angle (4 o'clock from about 1000ft below and about 1000yds distance at the start of my zoom) I CAN confirm that I had climbed ABOVE and RIGHT of the dying 38 and was not in danger of a collision after I lit him up (I never closed nearer than about 200yds of him). He was also nose up after I took his tail off so it could not have been from a gamey snapshot as he fell. More to the point as soon as I saw him breaking up I pulled shallow right to clear his wreckage on my LEFT HAND SIDE, and I had a clear view of him tumbling past and below me. He did NOT have the control to have steered himself back into my line of flight.
I might not be so irritated if it were my left wing that was whacked off, (well, I would but more because of the same old stupid luck that always seems to find me than a "WTF JUST HAPPENED?!?!?" moment) but how does a guy fall off on my LEFT hand side and still manage to take out the opposite wing after ducking to that side to clear him?

nope - I still die in 99.99% of them .....
I think both planes should exploded immeditely once they touch each other .. BANG - ur both in the tower ..
maybe if everyone knew that any collide provides instant death to both, everyone would fly more life like

I was in a P47-25 locked into a fight with a Ki-84 roughly 12k or so....the tactical situation required a repositioning of key stratigic assets via energy augmentation in the vertical;) ....as I went screaming out of dodge...I realized I was screaming INTO dodge...literally bearing right down one of the runways of a medium sized field. In that brief moment I was contemplating the possibilities 3 cons magically appeared on the runway. With them strung out at the beginning of the take off roll I chppped throttle and yanked the two ton paperwieght in behind them....I got good hits on the trailer as I swung the nose thru the runway line....vaporized the second and pulled up thru the third spraying him at D100 or less in a barrel roll around him.
As I egressed my now smoking somewhat ventilate bird I noticed the white 'soso and so has collided with you and just then the 3rd kill popped up....
Poor guy got chopped in half by a plane that never got within 50 yds of him on my FE:huh
