"T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE GAME TIME AND ALL AROUND THE SHOE,
NOT A CREATURE WAS SLEEPING, THEY WERE SCREAMING BEAT BLUE!!
BANNERS WERE HUNG BY THE LAMP POST WITH CARE,
IN HOPES THAT SAINT TROY WOULD FIND GINN THROUGH THE AIR!!!
DRUNKEN AND CRAZY, AND BURNING THEIR BEDS,
WHILE VISIONS OF KICK OFF DANCED THROUGH THEIR HEADS.
IN THE SLEIGH WAS WOODY HAYES,
DECKED OUT IN SCARLET AND GREY,
HE LOOKED ON THE CROWD THAT WAS GATHERED AROUND,
AND SAID THAT HE HEARD THE GAME WAS IN TOWN.
"I CAME HERE TO WATCH IT AND WISH YOU GOOD LUCK,
THOUGH ITS NOT LIKE YOU NEED IT CUZ MICHIGAN SUCKS!!!"

Grew up in Columbus, went back there for school later on. Believe it or not, the only riot I was ever involved in was over the OSU-Michigan game, fall of...er....1975. And that was complete with tear gas, rubber bullets, helicopters, and a line of Columbus police chasing the hapless Oldman down 11th Avenue. People in those two towns take their football way too seriously.

The bigger question is, if they do meet again and Michigan wins, who is national champ?
hmmm, sounds like a good reason to keep Michigan out of the national championship game:noid

looks like florida and OSU in the big game OSU by 21

If you can't win your conference you don't belong in the BCS championship game. Michigan is out.

Florida OSU u joking man pshhh
Its got to be Boise State and Ohio State man

Yeah, and the wild card team doesn't belong in the Superbowl
USC is the biggest pretender in the country

Heh! Actually, the national-championship game is between the #1 ranked and #2 ranked teams in the country as judged by BCS rankings. All the teams with a shot at #2 have lost 1 game. Michigan lost its one game by 3 points to the #1 team in the country, whereas the others lost their 1 game to teams ranked lower than #1 and usually by more than 3 points. Also, there was a very large gap between OSU and Michigan's BCS rankings and #3's BCS ranking.
So, it could be Michigan and OSU in the #1 vs. #2 game.
-
Yeah and deduct 7 points that, late in the 4th quarter, call gave to OSU and the outcome is a Michigan win.
As a retired football official I was embarrassed by that call that took the game out of the hands of the kids and put it in the "officials". It certainly was NOT a late hit nor was it spearing just because there was incidental helmet to helmet contact.
That call changed the game, which to that point had been well played by both sides.
-
MT...gotta disagree with you on this one, OSU is going in as a 10-point favorite against anyone save Mich.
ANy team would make for a great title game, there's a lot of parity between 2-7.
I'm rooting for Notre Dame to get the nod, so we can end all this foolishness about the Fighting Irish being a national contender. They are the most over-hyped, over rated team in the rankings.

Michigan also shared a National Championship while BARELY beating the #9 Washington State team who ALMOST came back. Meanwhile, the #2 Huskers whooped the #3 Vols.
As for USC being a "fraud", you're off of your rocker.
MICHIGAN WILL NOT be RANKED NUMBER TWO IN THE BCS AFTER TONIGHT'S LOSS. Move on.

You must be blind, he "leaned into him" and intentionally hit him in the helmet. Hell, he was already going down before the cheap shot.

That's irrelevant with respect to who this year is ranked #2.

I didn't say anything about USC.

Yep, you are probably right. But it's not time for me to move on until all is decided. Some of the teams higher in the BCS standings still have games left. First, I'll see what Michigan is rated after this loss. Second, I'll see how things stand after USC, Florida, and Notre Dame finish all their games. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TYPE IN CAPS, AND EVEN IF YOU TYPE IN CAPS AND BOLD, OR EVEN CAPS AND BOLD AND ITALICS, you and I don't have any effect upon what the BCS rankings will be. We'll see how it all pans out.

the rule is helmet to helmet = PF
aCCIDENTAL OR INTENTIONAL DOESN'T MATTER. The bad call was the pass interference on OSU that let the losers back in it.

Guess you were watching the replay on what was an almost instantanious play, hell I can slow it down to the place where anything looks like what you term a "cheap shot".
I was a lousy call PERIOD and it changed the game in the old days we used to call it home town cooking.

Untrue on the helmet to helmet thing. that was just Brent Musberger (who was bais by the way) covering a lousy call.
The pass interferance call was correct because the defender NEVER looked for the ball (which any official will tell you is an automatic call)

At least you listened to Herbstreit when he said those exact words.
The same goes for helmet to helmet contact on a guy who's out of bounds.

Final score-OSU 42,MU 39.

Thank God you stopped officiating, yer blind.

Are you kidding me??? I was beginning to think that the game was being played in Michigan by the total lack of response to the crap michigan was pulling.. late hits on their special teams...
Ohio got a few good calls... but the only thing that kept Michigan in the game as long as they were was the help the officials gave them.
-
I thought the game was pretty clean, very well matched and extremely well played.
#1 and #2 teams sure didn't disappoint.

I was not discussing hypothetical situations from years gone by. We are discussing who will play in the upcoming BCS championship game. In that context -- today -- obviously BCS rankings mean everything. This is because the game will be played by (A) the team that has the #1 BCS ranking (which is OSU) and (B) the team that has the #2 BCS ranking at the end of the season (which isn't decided yet).
In fact, I just read the following a minute ago (from http://www.bcsfootball.org/cfb/story/6188418 ), so what I was talking about originally is actually still on track to happen.
"Michigan remains No. 2 in latest BCS
FOXSports.com

What sort of effect would Saturday's "Game of the Century" have on the latest BCS standings?
How about none?
For weeks, many have debated over whether or not there could be a rematch of this Big Ten rivalry in the BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 8, 2007. Ohio State may have defeated Michigan 42-39 in Columbus on Saturday in the biggest game of the season, but the one-loss Wolverines remain at No. 2 in the BCS.
The top five in this week's BCS standings looks just like last week's.
Ohio State remains No. 1, with Michigan at No. 2. USC, Florida and Notre Dame round out the top five, with Arkansas jumping a spot to No. 6 after Rutgers' stunning loss in Cincinnati."

Go Wolverines!

No Golfer Herbstreit was just saying what he had been told by officials, this statement has been around for literally years. It was one of the first things taught to new guys coming in as football officials.
Alot of this stuff that is purported to be "new" is not it's just been rehashed. An INTENTIONAL blow to the head has always been a PF and that has not changed. Using the helmet as a weapon (i.e. spearing) has always been illegal also, I saw neither of those events in the play I mentioned.
Do officials blow calls sure they do thats why the instant replay now, but on judgement calls (this was case here) no replay but officials can blow judement calls too (which what I believe happened).
However I do agree with you that for the most part the game was well played on both sides and that was my lament, that in such a big game it was too bad it turned on an officials call.

agree to disagree i say good call. I also saw the pass interference call and that was a bad call, there was hardly any contact and i saw plays before with way more contact.
He slapped his hand because he thought the guy was reaching for the ball that was way short. Bad call but it doesn't matter much, OSU still won! and OSU will win the championship, and Troy Smith will win the heisman.
GO BUCKS!!!

Nope, that was the drawing for the pick-4 game that night. The Ohio Lottery lost they arse that night.
============
"The lottery paid a total of $2.19 million in winnings. Players had wagered $347,867.50.
Cohen said that since 2000, the combination of 4-2-3-9 has been drawn 13 times, but not in the order that they were picked on Saturday.
Kilbane said it’s likely that most of the bets with the winning numbers were placed after the game ended, but she did not know how much money was wagered in that period. The football game finished at 7:13 p.m. and the drawing was at 7:45 p.m. "

If USC runs the table they will leapfrog Michigan and play in the BCS bowl. USC still plays #5 ND and bowl eligible UCLA. 2 wins will put them #2.
