Title: Airtankers
Post by: VVV on November 18, 2006, 12:48:29 AM
I want to become a airtanker pilot but the only problem is that I can't find any information about how to become one. I want to fly either the DC-6 or the P-3. So I was hoping if you guys had any info about it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. :)

Forget about the DC6, probably scraped by now. The Neptunes still fly.

You obviously haven't look too far : http://www.airtanker.com/ (http://www.airtanker.com/)

Anyway, to be a co pilot on an airtanker you need only 800H... in theory. If you don't know anybody in the industry, only luck might help you. They like you to be a pilot AND a mechanic (A&P). The idea is that you work on the plane on those long downtime hours. You might end up on the ATs, but they want previous AG flying experience.

It is a seasonal job, so u have to get ready to quit everything within the day. You will relocate for 4 to 6 months, and make quite some good money. As a new hire, you will spend countless hours washing the plane, no buts or if.:D
