Title: Treetop flyer

I think this was posted a few months ago, I think, but I can't find it.  On the off chance it wasn't.....

Here's a nice video of the Berkut, a Long-EZ derivative (big engine, retracts)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKQS7kCBbPE&mode=related&search=

I want a LongEZ so bad right now, I can taste it.  It'll take decades for me to finish my plane at the rate I'm going.  I'm really hoping I can buy one in the next few months, depends on how our financial planning goes.

River Running in an RV-4

Cool video and I have always loved that song. Kinda cool. Kinda melancholy.

Flying wings are inherently unstable, wouldn't want to fly one unless it was computer controlled.

Aquashrimp: Can you provide a citation for that claim?  Mr. Lippisch might disagree.

The biggest problem found when building a flying wing aircraft is that such designs are inherently unstable and they do not easily stay level in flight.

the YB-49 was unstable  what you see is not a pure flying wing the cockpit and the propeller probably provide adequate directional stability.  that design would be cooler as a tandem cockpit.  I've never seen that design.

Hope I can do something like this soon (maybe without the aileron roll, heh).  I guess the trick is hoping that your other buddy who likes the same thing isn't coming the other way.  Surprise!

somewhere out on the tard.net is a video of someone doing that kind of flying in ID & they come up the end of a box canyon (summer, 8000' + high DA & no turbo in their Cub lol) & there aint enough space to turn & not enough power to climb so they end up stalling so down they go, straight to their graves.
their video camera survived, though.
thats a quality camera

what've you got to lose?  You can get $150,000 coverage instantly.  It's not expensive and all you need to do is let me know when you're going to be filiming.

Personally I see it as a good investment.

they guys who make the PUL-10 are working on a tandem version
nurflugel.com is their site
i get the impression that for a homebuilt, a flying wing is a lot easier to get done than something with an empanage or canard
100kts on 3gal/hr:eek: :O so if you do need to install an autopilot to combat instability, it will pay itself off fast

Golfer, I'm not interested in your condescension.  I said it'd be nice to be able to do stuff like that, sure, but I'm not really interested in the type of low maneuvering with blind corners that it'd require.  It's nice to fantasize and watch others, but I'd prefer not to die.
