New Fun for strip joints! (http://money.cnn.com/2006/11/20/news/dollar_coin.reut/index.htm?cnn=yes)

I can just imagine where they will put coins instead of bills!  :D

On the serious side, I'd rather stay the way we are with Paper currency.

Ya cheapskate, only a dollar for the girls!:(  Give them a five at least.  I'm amazed the dollar bill has lasted this long. You can't buy much with it anymore. Except in places like Vietnam and South America where a ten is almost too much for them to change.
If the US mint want people to use coins, all they have to do is not print any more dollar bills. They soon disintegrate. That's the real reason they want coins to take off. They last for years and printing money costs money, ironically.

Next you'll see a two dollar coin. :huh

Welcome to the mid 1980s.

Australia has had $1 and $2 coins and plastic notes for $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 for about 20 years now.

All the notes are of a differant size and colour too, so it is pretty much impossible to mistake one note for another, and they are waterproof, no more finding $150 worth of soggy paper in your jeans pocket after going through the wash, or in the boardshorts after a quick swim. Virtually impossible to counterfeit too.

A couple of years after you guys change over(once the whole 'newfangledness' has worn off) , you will wonder why the US didnt do it years earlier.

Says Nixon will be on a $1 coin in 2016. Will the slogan on the coin say "I am not a crook?"

Prepare to get re-enforced pockets.

Like Australia, 1 pound notes got phased out in the UK (except Scotland) about 20 years ago. Now the smallest denomination we have is 5 pounds (~$10). Don't really miss them but the downside is you spend half your life walking with a limp from the weight of all the 1 and 2 pound coins you're carrying about.

On the other hand, at home I rarely make the mistake of thinking I'm loaded because I've a fat wad of notes in my wallet, only to find out all the $20 bills have mysteriously turned into $1's.

Dollar coins have been around for a while but are not intended to replace the paper dollar.  The only time i've seen dollar coins used is when buying stamps at a local post office using their vending machine with a 20 dollar bill.  The cash returned is always in coins...

:(

Then go use them in a local restaurant or store and watch them squrim when they think it's a quarter...

:rofl

However, Congress' 2005 act to create the new dollar coin specifies that the program is not intended to supplant the paper dollar bill
