Title: Thanksgiving day strategy?
Post by: kamilyun on November 22, 2006, 05:02:06 PM
I take my Thanksgiving meals seriously.  Planning to the max.  Got to optimize the gluttony, right? :D

Just wondering what other people's T-day "strategies" are:

What time to you eat the big meal?  How many people for the big meal?  If you're married are you doing one big gathering of all the family and in-laws or do you do a lunch then dinner with each family?  Alternate years?

"typical" meal of turkey?  Or do you do ham or goose or something else?

I'll doing the 3pm meal.  Perfect time for a nap afterwards, too.  Can sleep from 4-6, wake up, eat leftovers, lounge around and watch TV the rest of the night, making a turkey sandwhich at regular intervals.  Sound like too much eating?  Well, I'll probably not eat breakfast or lunch in order to make space :p

Turkey, homemade stuffing, garlic mashed taters, homemade cranberry sauce, collard greens.  Pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie for dessert.

I'll put up an AAR on Friday :D

Happy Thanksgiving to all <>

I will be launching a preemptive strike on the turkey at approximately 1 PM EST, with possible follow up attacks on everything else on the table, except for the sweet potato dish that someone in the family seems to insist on bringing every single year, even though it's usually an odd rust color, and smells of old socks.

After I have successfully destroyed the B1-RD and it's support infrastructure, I will likely slip into a coma, and spend most of the afternoon drifting in and out of consciousness, and possibly watching football during the odd lucid moments.

Victory will be mine

Don't feel left out Overlag, happily join in with our celebrations, get satellite access so you can watch American football, and be a glutton like your cousins to the west.

Typically my mothers grandparents come down from South Dakota, depending on the time they arrive my grandmother helps cook, or we eat when they et here.  I'll probably be in bed until noon or so, after that i may help cook.  Pies go in the oven tonight.

My family does turkey and ham, although the turkey is actually one of those big hunks of deli slicing meat, same with the ham.  If my grandmother cooked a turkey, it will be a full 12-14lbs smoked turkey of which many sandwiches will be made from in the following days.

Me?  I'll be eating lightly as I think I caught some food poisoning from KFC the other day.  Cheers and be well!

Finally staying at my own house this year. After 11 years of being a vegetarian, Thanksgiving has become my most dreaded holiday often spent not eating while others stuffed their faces.

And before anyone starts, I'm not a vegetarian because I like animals it's that I hate plants.

<--- cooks the meal and quaffs wine while others gorge. Best part is the after-dinner turkey sandwich on Pepperidge Farm Hearty White with a dab of Hellmans. Don't even mention Miracle Whip :t
