Title: will this card work?????????
Post by: doza7620 on November 23, 2006, 02:18:23 AM
My new Dell E-1705 Inspiron comes with a 256mb ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 Hyper-Memory.  Is this card sufficient enought to play AH@?

It should run I think.  Probably not super fast and you'll most likely want to use low texture size settings and do not pre-cache anything, but it should work.

Consider turning off custom skins as well if you see stuttering.

Hyper-memory = the video chip does not have dedicated video RAM.  Video RAM is much faster that standard system RAM, so there are two points to remember.

1)  Slower system RAM means less performance for the video subsystem.

2)  Subtract the amount of video RAM from your total system RAM, as that RAM will no longer be available to run programs.  i.e. If the video card is using 128MB of RAM, and your computer has 512MB of RAM, then your computer only really has 384MB of *useable* RAM.

Hypermemory means the chip is using system memory as well as its own memory, often it is difficult to find out how much own memory it has but i saw 64-256MB versions. Since it still takes a lot of main memory you should better have enough of that.

But the X1400 is pretty low end still, depending on what else you have in the computer AH2 will run but far less from good.
