I had to finish the herring bone skin first before I moved on to this one. I needed the pattern underneath for the nose. The rest I worked on then slapped on an alpha layer to bring the nose and wings out.
Based on this book scan:

It looks nice Krusty :aok But I'm no skin person, but I think the gray needs to be lighter by the 5-3, but I don't know, it just might be the angle of the photo. Could you take on of like your book scane?
-
I can try to lessen the mottling on the sides. However I don't think the color profile is the best. I tried to use the standard shades of grey (and usually they seem to have mottling on the sides). I was going more off of what I knew they did rather than what that particular profile showed.
I'll lighten the sides up a bit and post a screenshot.
-
I took the layer on the sides from 75% opacity to 40%. Does this look better?
New on top, old on bottom (for comparison)

If you look at the side it's much lighter. In the old one the color on the side blended into the splinter camo on the top of the spine. The new one definitely stands apart, but retains some of the uneven look I wanted.
EDIT: Maybe I could make that 5 a little more visible.. hrm...

Sexy skin krusty!:t
Correct colors yes? Just me but the gray does look a tad dark. Guess it all depends its hard to tell when we only have a artist render
-
For the most part it's accurate. I've also got a weathering layer on that, that makes it a bit darker. You think I should tone that down a bit, because this was a fresh coat of paint?
-
Krusty, Im no skinner, but It looks to me like the Patter on the nose is a bit Opac. Looks like a shadow, whereas on the scan it actually looked painted. As I said, Im no skinner so forgive me if im talking absolute nonsense. Just me 0.02p
-
Hrm.. I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but I think I understand. Got any suggestions?
-
Sorry krusty, The herring bone pattern on the nose? If thats what its called. It looks to see through. Instead of being almost entirely black like on the scan, It looks like a shadow falling across the nose. Black but not fully solid black. Now im talking nonsense. Should I just stop or keep going?
-
Mac, are you talking about the marks under the air intake? If so, those are exhaust stains that then preceed aft across the wing root. If you are talking about the brown/tan nose, then I don't understand what you mean.

Ok this Scan looks like proper black markings on the nose. Like they are ment to be there

This Skin just makes it look like a shadow. Understand? Maybe I should just shut up now.
Krusty this is not getting on at you, just something I thought
-
I see what you mean.
The stripes on the herring bone pattern. The colors on the profile are off a bit. The colors I used are more like the real colors used. They were brown, not black (and the profile comes out blackish green). I've seen a skin or two in IL2 and other games with herring bone patterns, and they seem to have 2 shades of brown as well, so I can't have goofed up totally :)
But, good eye spotting the differences in the profile and the skin!
-
What I was more meaning, is that they look very... See through. You know, not so solid, kinda shadowy! Whereas in the scan it is almost solid. Not flat, but solid. Yours just looks like theres a tree by the runway. Sorry for being mean!
-
No, I get what you're saying. It's just a trick of the colors. Check out:

and

The colors on that profile are just off, is all. It happens a lot, actually. That's why you can't trust them.
As for the color I chose, it's 100% opacity. It's just a lighter shade.
-
Ahh ok Krusty. Sorry for the bother. Just the way it looked. The lighter shade made it look like Opacity was at like 70. Apologies again!
-
No problem! I need folks to keep me on my toes. I've had folks point out the most obvious of blunders before, and I need them to keep pointing them out for a long time to come :)

I think the gray looks alot better now, and what you said about the 5, I think you do need to make it a bit more visible.

Too clean reaply that grime layer and lower op thats all nice skin ;p
-
I can raise the blending on my "cloud" layer. Keep in mind, though, that C205s were rare, most of the planes in use were 202s. I wouldn't mind having a "relatively" clean bird because it was repainted after coming off the factory line with the grey, so it should be cleaner. That is, if I cared :P
These 3D models are sooooo old I don't care, as long as it's close :) I'll re-do them all when they're upgraded, I promise :)

DO u just edict the skins in windows paint???
-
No, I'm afraid Windows Paint is too simple a program. I use Photoshop. Other use PSP (Paint Shop Pro) this has a free trial demo as well. Others use the totally free GIMP (similar in function to photshop, but a different program with a different layout). You need a program that has layers. It is almost impossible to work on a skin without layers.
-
THANK U :D how do i get one of these "better programs"?
-
EDIT: Ahhh, no wonder. I left the "dirty" layer off. D'oh! Will repost in a second
