I have to admit, I looked around in the midst of heavy crowds.
I had to park about 1 mile awat in our South Hill mall parking lot (I swear I got the last parking spot available at that moment in time!)
Checked out Circuit City and Mervin's going out of business sale.
Looked at alot of stuff, but my credit card never came out of my wallet! Probably because I was shopping alone, without my wife and kids!
What did you buy?
-
Chicken taco, bowl of beans, large limonada (my lunch), 2 fajita tacos (carried back to office for someone else).
culero (power shopper)

Very cool! Did you get an extended warranty for that? How long to you expect to own it? Once you're finished with it, do you expect to sell it on Ebay before you upgrade?

Black Friday? What is that?
I bought a cool laptop online on Friday, but it doesnt get here until Wednesday :cry
So... Expect to see me back in the AH clouds towards the end of the week after a few years away for hardware reasons :)
-
I went to the local ace hardware to get some stuff for repairs around the house and even it was a zoo. they had some xmas specials and they sell outdoor decorations and stuff. I think they even had a cheap dvd player.

LMAO, found out my videogame-hating-wife wants a Nintendo Wii-- it has some cool wireless thingies that could simulate hand to hand combat (Of course, they didnt actually HAVE one) Aside from that, TRIED to buy a new remote for my Dish network dvr (it suffered a quick death at start of second half of Cowboys/Bucs game, when rookie got picked off--MAN, it has a lot of brittle parts:O ) had to order one online

Nils I'll answer just in case you arent being a total smart arse.
Black friday is the friday after thanksgiving.
Every year the day after thanks giving signifies the opening of the christmas shopping season for retailers. It is ofter caotic and sometimes violent.
I remember my parents telling me a story of my dad almost getting in a fist fight to get me the Star Wars millinium falcon at target. Mobs littereally form trying to get to sale items before they get sold out. People littlerally wake up before 4AM to get lined up outside the stores before they open.
You'd think at some places that Elvis himself was performing live there but alas the store has the new "tickle me elmo" doll on sale and they want them before they sell out.

Not beeing a "smart arse". We dont have thanksgiving here so black friday was new to me.
Thx for the clarification tho.
As a sidenote..The christmas shopping starts around december 1. here, and i think that is abit early. IF they can only keep it there then i can accept it. The retail industry IMO is ruining the christmas season and feeling by stretching christmas over a too long timeframe. Personally i refuse to do business at any store that hangs up any sort of christmas thing before december 1. There is a growing movement here called roughly "give us christmas back" that is trying to keep the industry from celebrating christmas over 2 months. I bet they would really like it to last for 6. Sorry for the off topic but i really hate the never ending attempts at pushing the christmas season limits here.

Crazy, people are too greedy. Need to R........E............L...... ...A..........X and take it E......A........S........Y man, like slow things down a bit

About the last place in the world I'd like to be is at a crowded shopping mall or store, surrounded by idiots.
And I sure would never get up early for it. :lol
-
Norway was not liberated by english traders.
But then we would have lutefisk for thanksgiving instead of turkey :D
What do veggie hippies to for thanksgiving. Do they stand around and worship a giant cube of tofu or put on a toga while wearing fruits and veggies and prace around outside chanting
-
We have noone but ourself to blame and its nothing to celebrate. :D
Seriously... I think thanksgiving is an irish custom (correct me if im wrong) that came over to your end on a boat. The Irish never came our way as there was no need. We visited them and their nuns on a regular basis for cultural exchanges. :D
-
Cultural exchanges = nun porn?
-
Best time to shop during the holiday season is after Black Friday Durng the work weeks during the day between 9AM and 4 PM while everyone else is at work.
I intentionally never go shopping on black Fri

I don't think our Thanksgiving is a carry over from Ireland. I could be wrong though.
I NEVER shop the day after Thanksgiving. My wife used to be the head customer service manager at the busiest WalMart in the world. She wasn't fit to be shot when she got home the night after Thanksgiving. She has a government job now, and we can actually enjoy Thanksgiving because we can go see family and not have to be home in time for her to be at work at 2AM the day after.
I generally shop close to Christmas, unless I'm going to try to get something hard to find for someone. We always go out on Christmas Eve to shop, because back when we were really broke we couldn't afford to do Christmas shopping until I got my generous (seriously, it was a generous bonus) Christmas bonus at the shop party on Christmas Eve. It became a tradition we share together.
-
Some cigars at the drug store, I love living on the wild side.
shamus
-
a bottle of brisk at a esso, and a chocolate bar at a UFA.
other than that, not a damn thing - thanksgiving is a month earlier and doesnt involve any shopping up here.
-
Didn't buy anything on Friday and probably won't this weekend either. For us Christmas presents are an optional thing. We buy for each other all year long so we don't wait until Christmas. The Grandkids get their presents when we show up.
-
thanksgiving was started by the american indians to thank the pilgrims for bringing them steel knives and axes and arrow heads. Much better than stone tools.

The wife bought a 37" plasma tv a few months ago, but doesn't have any sort of sound system or even a dvd player hooked up to it. Want to know what I call HTDV cable watched on a plasma tv but listened to through tv speakers? I call it depressing, that's what :(
My wife couldn't possibly care less about this situation however, so we were at an impasse. Any money spent on correcting the problem would be wasted money. On the other hand, she did mention that she could use a dvd player...
So on black Friday, I avoided the crowds and wandered into the base BX at around 5pm and saw a cheapo 5.1 surround sound system with integrated dvd player for $89. It's a JVC TH-S11 if it matters. This system normally retails for $189 or higher, so I bought it. It's the only consumer item I've bought on black Friday since 2001 if I recall correctly. If I hadn't saved $100 on the purchase, my wife would have made me return it
She bought a couple hundred bucks worth of clothes on Friday, but next year she should be making more than I do so it's all good :)

Now this gentlemen is a smart person.
Yesterday Black Friday, a day which will live in infamy, I stayed in bed till 12 noon
Cause MY Christmas shopping has been finished since Halloween :)
-
I was on a phone all day listening to people whine about our stores being out of some item by nine in the morning. It was the first Black Friday I wasn't in front line retail and it wasn't any easier.
I work as a customer service agent at GameStop, Inc. corporate headquarters in Grapevine, and even GameStop had their Black Friday sales. Damn near everything in all of our stores was gone by eleven in the morning. People were calling to lodge complaints about our stores being out.
"While supplies last" can only be said so many times before it becomes ground into your mind. :furious

That was a horrible video, I didn't see any Molotov cocktails or even a police beating someone with a night stick.
Oh I bought nothing.
-
I scored a really good cup of coffee at the nearby Wawa. Unfortunately I paid full price.

Yes I do, I'm not stupid enough to stand out side of a store for 22 hours waiting for the "big opening" so I can get trampled by 400lb women with no lives whatsoever. Then go to the next store and have to fight the same 400 lb woman for the last stupid tickle me elmo, that nobody in my entire family tree wants anyway.
-
I didn't buy a thing. I didn't shop either.
