Don't forget the Boeing Stearman.
-
yep. i think that might be the one.
the texan.
at least 2, but up to 4 of them dogfight over my house all the time (a few times a week)...i have been trying to identify them with no luck.
the shape looks about the same...squared wings with rounded tail feathers.
everytime i hear them i stop what i am doing and go out to watch them.
yesterday they had one painted with japanese markings v. what looked like a typical p51 scheme.
now to figure out how to get up in one of those puppies.
thanks guys.
:)

they dressed up a load of AT-6 harvard/texans for the film tora tora tora as A6m's if i remember rightly
-
according to this site (http://fotodj.com/pages/edwards2005/DK22_840.htm)
"The front of a North American SNJ-5 Texan and the back end of a Vought BT-13
were used to construct replica Nakajima B3N "Kate" torpedo bomber, N3725G"

Theres a few companies around that allow for people to dogfight in prop planes like the Texan. Cost a heck of alot of money.

or the right contacts. i tend to work on that end of things...a little cheaper that way...
for instance, i might say, hey, looky here, i am painting a nice big picture of your airplane that would look great in your office and you can have it if you take me up on the next cancelled flight.
just a for instance...not impossible these things.
must fly in real fighter...must fly in real fighter...must fly in real fighter....

Ones I know of are the PT-19, BT-13, then the AT-6 (Texan), in that order of advancing skill. Probably big holes in that though.

Welcome. There's another outfit in Kissimmee that flies Texans, too, but that's too far for daily dogfights as well, I suppose. Well, where you are there's sure to be folks in the community that pay attention to that kinda stuff - look up some USAF off-duty hangouts and ask around.
Thread hijack - how's that area to live in? Taxes, schools, cost of living, property costs, community culture, etc. The company I work for owns a cluster of properties there (Port St. Joe, Panama City, Santa Rosa Beach, Destin, Fort Walton Beach) so that area is a possible advancement destination for me.
culero (I'm already used to saltwater and hot humid climates ;))

do you work for st. joe corp? (they own lots and lots of clusters of land here is why i ask. )
i live in south walton county.
property taxes are somewhat higher than average in most areas and way way high on the gulf side of highway 98. same in okaloosa county (destin ft.walton beach).
the culture is tourism for the most part and lots and lots of military on both sides (eglin, herlburt and tyndall) so there is a real transient element to the universe here. outside of destin where i am there are a bit more constants.
it's not very populated in the off season months. (we get to go out to all of our favorite restaurants now that it's not crazy...yay)
if you want to lay out on the beach and have a margarita, this is the place to be. if you want to go to a museum or catch an indi film, well its a bit sparse in that dept.
property values are currently wayyyy overinflated. of course, real estate agents like to to tell me that i am wrong, but they are also all trying to sell something. only the ones selling are the ones who cater to the uber-rich.
i am told that okaloosa county has good schools and walton county schools are getting better.
if i knew more about what you were looking for, i could probably tell you more about where you might want to look here.

Thanks for the overview, JB88. For years I thought we'd be retiring somewhere in Florida, but I'm too chicken and lazy to cope with hurricanes.
A friend was at Homestead when Andrew went through. His home was wiped out as he and his wife cowered in the bathroom. He sold what was left, bought a travel trailer and drove all the way to Alaska, which as you know has some dandy earthquakes.
Now he's taking his chances in Vegas. Helped scare me away from Florida except for enjoying vacations there, like early this year finally driving to Key West via Miami. Fun trip.
Oh yes, the main thread topic. Most the Warbirds flights I've seen advertised invariably involve T-6s. My son enjoyed one in California and they're here in northern Virginia too.

No, Freedom Corporation, which owns several newspapers there.

If and when, I'll look you up and fill you in more. This is long-range, I have probably a couple of years to wait before changing jobs, and then that area is only one possibility (I could even stay here). But thanks for those details.

happy to help if and when.
oh yes, freedom newspapers has quite a hold on the industry down here.
interesting aside. did you know that hunter s. thompson was originally a writer for the paper at eglin AFB?

Another guy I hold in similar regard to Dr. Thompson is William Jennings Bryan. He kept a vacation home just a few miles from my house. He was actually a prominent citizen in local matters. We have a major road named for him.
I see your cultural icon, and call :)
