Title: CIA & exploding RPGs lol
Post by: x0847Marine on November 26, 2006, 05:04:56 PM
This is lol if true...

I ran into a dude I know, former Army Ranger spec ops dude, hes been off working security in Iraq...

So says he; during some firefights where the enemy rallies from almost nowhere to join the street fight, CIA agents arrive in vans handing out what look like free RPGs urging them to kill the infidels for allah... only problem is they dont actually shoot the RPG round, it explodes taking the upper torso of the shooter with it.

LMAO!! (if true) that makes me feel warm'n fuzzy inside.

CIA agents, arriving in vans at spontaneous firefights, handing out self-destructing RPG rounds...

I would say that this is a myth which has grounds for basis in the Vietnam War.  There are a few documented cases of U.S. special forces teams finding Viet Cong ammunition caches, and contaminating them with self-destructing rounds like the ones you mentioned.

Do you know the difference between a fairy-tale and a war story?  A fairy-tale starts out "Once upon a time...", a war story begins "You aint gonna believe this chit..."

The dramatics about CIA agents arriving in the heat of confusing battle to kill a few dudes, eh.. maybe, but I dont disbelieve that the CIA would supply them with booby trapped weapons.

He also says "they" have managed to put weapons in the enemies hands, mostly AK47s, that have GPS trackers embedded inside... Apparently Israel had great success with this tactic recently bugging an entire shipment of AK's from Syria that led them to several Hezbollah strong holds. Its allegedly a signal any smart bomb / guided missile / whatever can ride straight down and blow up.  And they have flooded some areas with the cell phones used to make IEDS, that are also GPS enabled.

Fact or fiction?, who knows.. I suppose as long as the bad guys think the gun / phone they are carrying could be giving away their location, or the RPG they have might kill them... these are good things.

The last interesting bit of info he had was about the modern day "tunnel rats", more enemy snipers, he says, have been using the sewers to shoot & scoot and they have an extensive underground network that connects to houses / buildings... so the military has tunnel rat teams that troll the underbelly of Iraq.. talk about a sh***y job.

If the bad guys are reading this forum, then I would have to say it's absolutely true.

Otherwise, I doubt it. ;)

Yup. :D By the way, the vans were black, right? Wasn't really the CIA if the vans weren't black.

It's not so rediculous of a theory if you think about it (but then again, thinking is not any of your strong points).

You assume a CIA agent is a tall aryan who would make the fuhrer proud.  Why can't they be arabs or of arab decent?

Next, who's to tell the story of exploding RPG's to the future "Freedom Fighters?"  Those with only 2 legs, a pelvis and an abdominal stump left?

Dead men tell no tales.

The only thing that could make this story fake is the story.  Not the way it is told, or the details, but the fact that it's there.  If the CIA was really doing this, the story wouldn't be told even as a rumour to the guys on the ground.  No one would know about it but the CIA guys doing it.

It worked for Clive Cussler, or at least the guy he had write the novel under his brand in "Skeleton Coast." CIA project as well :)

Man, that one sucked by the way (more than usual lately).

I KNOW for a fact none of this where true.

If it was true, it would be highly classified.

If it was highly classified.....the New York Times would have done their duty to the American people (and terrorists) and reported it by now.

GPS devices sending signals in AK47s that "missiles and bombs can ride on" sounds like something that would work well in a controlled lab enviroment.

As soon as you wander into the realm of reality i see it as hard to belive. First you have signal issues, then hiding it were noone can see it in an AK47 without blocking the signal. You also have to make sure that the correct guys are holding the rifle before attacking it from afar.

Tracking BOXES with guns yes... tracking it all the way from start to customer.. no.

LOL. I just read him on the Airplane. Easy, quick, moderately entertaining and true to formula -- most of the time. This was one of his newer series (which I didn't know about when I bough it) that involves some super ship of super good guy mercenaries doing good deeds, etc. Had a hook image on the cover about some 1800s tramp steamer found deep in the African desert that turned out to be a distant side story that only featured in exactly 2 paragraphs of the book -- that pissed me off somewhat. The rest of the book was an even more over-the-top "action" adventure than the usual Dirk Pitt formula.

Clive may be a total publishing potato, but he does do some very interesting stuff with his money -- kinda lives the life he creates in print finding lost shipwrecks (without the gunplay and international intrigue). He did find the CSS Hunley and a wealth of "B" grade shipwrecks.

He is a good one to start kids (boys really) reading.  I really didn't read much until I picked up one of his first way back when.

It's been a $10.00 a week habit since. ;)
