I know, it's not a true "flightsim". But for it's time it was the most awesome simulation a 13 yr old had ever seen. I sunk alot of money into that one.
-
One of those little monoplane pedal cars. Then Air Warrior.
-
I played that once and for whatever reason I wasnt able to find it again. I did manage to spend all my arcade money for the day on it. As far as arcade games, I really loved Star Wars.

They have Red Baron over on tapco.com now. As well as several other flying games.
My first flightsim addiction was MSFS II.

The very first? Tail Gunner, around 1979 I think. The "Red Baron" around 1980 or so.
Tail gunnner was a space based game and to me it looked like star wars. Red Baron was a bi-plane game......you flew against dirigibles (sp?) and ground targets. Both games have only very basic graphics, but that didn't matter.
-
No it sure didn't. And I remember Tail Gunner, but, like you said it's a space game and not a flightsim so it didn't effect me like RB did.
-

Pro Pilot
then FS98(fully loaded):D
-
i have never flown AW or WB. this is my first computer based flight sim...played arcade stuff from time to time but never really an addiction.
ah has been an addiction.
almost downloaded and tried ww2 online...when they asked me for my credit card to start free trial i changed my mind. glad i did.
before AH there was chess. now its a bit of both. rather not muddy that up.
-
The first was a chopper sim arcade game with great cartoon graphics. I wish I could remember the name. It had you flying thru New York City with your copilot yelling at you when to turn. That *&$#%(* never warned you early enough. I think I took out the Chrysler building about 40 times before I finally made that turn.
After that Aces over the Pacific, then I was turned on to the hardcore stuff... Air Warrior. Been an addict ever since.
-
actually, there was a game that came out that was a laser disc type...you flew through canyons that were taken from actual footage...laid some serious dough on that game in a hotel game room one weekend as a kid.
-
I bet this was Skuzzy's:

:D
-
Anyone remember the Intelivision bi-plane game? This was around 1979.
This was my favorite console game. ( like there was a lot to choose from, lol) You could adjust the gravity settings and make the planes fly all crazy. It was chit, 2d graphics, but it was a lot of fun.

I loved that game!
-
Anyone play the game that was 2 books...each player used one. You started on a certain page, and each chose a maneuver. That maneuver told you to go to such and such a page. When you went there, it showed a drawing from your cockpit, and where the enemy plane ended up. Was really cool. My first flightsim was Solo Flight for C64, followed by Microsoft Flight Sim 5.0
-
Microsoft flight sim 98, started with arrow keys then I got a cheap MS joystick with 3 buttons. Then I found AH and as they say, the rest is history.
-
Dambusters on the C-64 <- My very first flight sim
Ace on C-64
Wings on Amiga
Battle of Brittan on Atari ST
and nurmerous others on different computers
-
'Sopwith' on the Zenith 186 floppy driven thing c1988.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Max_
"Blue Max is a video game from 1983 by Synapse Software, released for the Commodore 64 and Atari 8-bit computers, and in 1991 it was also released for PC by Three-Sixty Pacific. In the game, the player controls a Sopwith Camel biplane during World War I, attempting to shoot down enemy planes and bomb targets on the ground.
The game is named after the prestigious order Pour le Mérite, informally known as Blue Max.
"

Tornado :)
No joystick needed ;)
-
DOS Red Baron on a 386 was the one that hooked me
i played this before RB...
...but it isnt much of a flight sim...
for a P-38 looks like he has convergence set tot a negative value, lol

Timepilot was the shiznitz. Where else could you play all wars in one sitting?

One of the neat things about having inferior graphics back in the day, it really made your imagination run wild. More than made up for the lack of realism on the CRT.
B-17 Bomber on Intellivision was the foshizzle too.

b-17 bomber lives! (http://www.intellivisionlives.com/bluesky/games/credits/voice.html#b17)

F-19 was second, we had that and Wheel of Fortune over in Saudi in the rec tent. I'm not a big 'wheel' fan.

There was a highly un-PC game arcade game I played in the early 1970s that involved a physical moving map with a joystick controlling the the "bombsight." The goal as I recall was to nuke cities in a night mission with a resulting noise and flash. Not a flight sim, but that submarine coin op game (with the metal periscope handles) sticks out -- where you torpedo the ships scrolling by. Can't remember it's name though. I believe it was another one that offered Physical, mechanical "graphics."
In flight sims -- The first one I played was Airfight, about 1977 on the PLATO computer network. The First online, H2H somewhat massivley in potential combat flight sim. 1960s aircraft (no missiles though), simple wireframe graphics, about 1 FPS in updates and keyboard controls made for a less than immersive experience. I flew it a few times, and occasionally found an opponent but it was too "jerky" in performance to be enjoyable. I did get my first online kill on the PLATO system though, playing the Star Trek based Empire, where I hit some dude in a Romulan ship with 3 photon torpedoes.
Intellivision -- B-17 bomber obviously stands out.
In the "modern" era EGA Falcon 1 was good, Strike Eagle was good but Red Baron 1 was a quantum leap in good.

Triple Action (Biplanes on Intellivision)
Mission X (Intellivision)
Wings of Fury (Apple IIe)

That reminds me of the line controlled planes. Enjoyed those for years when I was young.

probably my first flight sim were Sublogics Flight Sim II for the Apple IIc and
Apple IIc F-15 Strike Fighter
(http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/874_1164647042_f-15_strike_eagle_zx_spectrum.png)
then I got the all powerful Packard Bell 386/25 with 80mg HD and 1mg ram and played Birds of Prey and Chuck Yeager's Flight Sim, and later got the AST P60 with 500mg HD and 4mgs ram then played A-10 Tank Killer , Aces Of The Pacific and Aces Over Europe , Jetfighter II , Red Baron , Secret Weapons Of The Luftwaffe , Navy Fighters. FS 5.0

There was some space game that was on the old Atari computer, not the game console but a "real" computer complete with a key board. The game was fully 3 dimensional and you flew some kind of a space fighter and had to dock with a "mother ship" to go to a new area. I can't recall the name but it had me hooked for more than a couple months. I had to play at a rent a computer store since I didn't have a unit of my own then. It was about ot before 81 I believe.
Once I got my own computer, Apple 2C, I got anything I could fly on it. Once I saw BOB, Thier Finest Hour I just had to get an IBM style computer and flew that game for months.
My first on line game was AW. Genie was a harsh adiction paying by the hour............

Did you get the web site wrong on the post? I went to tapco.com and it's a site dedicated to the shooting sports. I don't have a problem with shooting or guns but there is no mention of any flight games there.
Onm a side note, has anyone found the arcade version of red baron online, that atari one pictured in the thread?

My first flight sim love has to be SEGA's Afterburner II
(http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/BigTon/sAfter_Burner_II.jpg)
With its sweet graphics and interactive seat... what's not to love?
After this came my PC experiences on Falcon 4.0 and of course WB 2.77... sigh... the memories-
:aok
-
My first seems to have slipped my mind, it was flying a corsair around in Aviation Adventure game/video pack. You had to try to avoid being spotted by the enemy radar although there were only 6 or so missions, and you couldn't shoot, it was fun. There was also a paper airplane game in that pack that was entertaining. After that it was Strike Commander. I'd make my dad start it for me just so i could pick the "cool bombs" and then eject once i started to fly:rolleyes:
After those ones it was MSFS 98
-
TOPGUN on NES. And then Jetfighter (Number one), soon followed by JetFighter 2.
-
it was in the early 80's on my Atari 400.
Sublogics Flightsim II, especialy the WW1 part called "British Ace"
and a bit later 1985 the Heli Sim "Tomahawk"
from Digital Integration, i remember i bought it on cassette! ;)

My first adictive flight sim was Red Baron played on a 386. I spent hours playing that game. MS Flightsim 5 hooked me for a long time though I had played MS 3 and 4 before that. Next I got hooked Sierra's Aces Over the Pacific.
My first online flight sim was WB 1.2. That one cost me an arm and a leg!

-
First sims would be Aces of the Pacific and Aces over Europe and Red Barron. Then ATF....and the rest.
-
anyone ever played the RB2 competitor game called Flying Corps?

I typed in tapco.com and got some military site where I can get anything short of a nuke.

The original Xwing got me flying, and then Red Baron 3d got me into flight sims with gravity. All downhill from there (haha). :)

Maybe it's time to turn this into a how many computer/arcade/console flight sims have you played. I don't even wanna think about how many I've played over the decades. Would have to approach a hundred.
