Title: Eny
Post by: TilDeath on November 27, 2006, 06:25:45 PM
I really enjoy playing the game and taking bases.  I am glad that HTC has made it a little harder for all to capture bases.  My problem is when the ENY is at 28, 30 or even 34 the game becomes no more fun.  When flying practically a goon against an LA-7 where is the fun in that, or not being able to defend a Vech Base from an air attack except with an M-8 or an LVT4.

The ENY and Load Balancing is a good idea, but at the expense of the game becoming frustrating to the players whom are trying to do what the game was designed to do, take bases and win a map, can't because of the options available.  I prefer to go play poker.

The idea of ENY is to make players "frustrated enough" to balance the sides (ie switch to the side with no ENY restrictions). :)

IT'S ALL ABOUT ME ...

What you haven't pointed out or maybe thought about ...

If the ENY is that high ... then you really must have some overwhelming numbers over 1 or 2 countries.

Think of how much fun they must be having having to try an beat back wave after wave of superior numbers ... would suck ... wouldn't it ? ... but you didn't look at it from that standpoint ... did you ?

So they have to try and beat back superior numbers of the lesser aircraft that you have to fly ... so it sucks for both of you. Better to have it suck for all, than just some.

Another testimonial about why we should abolish map resets and complete map domination. AW had it right years ago. Make most bases uncapturable but make a certain few in the middle capturable. That would bring people together and I think would even out the teams. The problem we have now since there are 2 LW arenas is that once a team starts to lose, its players abandon that arena in favor of the other one. The disparity in players becomes even greater and this is where all parties loose because one team is vastly outnumbered and the other is stuck flying p40b's.

Side switching just is not working. People in general simply don't do it. They do it even less now that they have another arena to escape to. Sure, some do it, but not nearly enough to be effective unless there are not that many people in an arena (in other words im leaving EW and MW out of the conversation)

The problem thats rising to the surface here is the old schoolers Vs the Noobs. The noobs are under the impression that AH is all about capturing and winning the war. The old schoolers think its about the fight. We have failed the newer players. We haven't taught them how to fight correctly so they resort to milkrunning an undefended base to have fun. Capturing has its place, and a hard fought capture is awesome fun but only when numbers arnt skewed. Being in the Horde or being Horded are just not fun things for me, but sometimes theres no way to escape it unless you just leave the arena.

Having said that, I still love this game and even with the minor frustrations, I still have lots of fun. These problems I mention are not deal breakers for me because I can always find something to do. I truly believe that in time this will all be sorted out.

I think this is one of those quotes to remember.

I agree again with the ENY theory, but I have been in arenas when one side is really taking bases and have the larger amount of bases but the side with the most players are given a HIGH ENY even though the amount of bases may be 6 and the side with lessor players and a greater amount of bases has no ENY... is this fair for defense of the team with lessor bases but a greater number of players?  I dont find any pleasure in trying to defend a base with a P40b against a hord of LA's and Spit's

It's next to impossible to defend a CV with an SBD or TBM when you have high eny. At least set the max ENY up so you have some kind of fighter to fly. F4F or FM2 with no wep would at least give us some kind of chance to defend the CV or even a base. Is ENY even truely needed in EW or MW? Maybe up the ENY value for one or both of those aircraft. Just a thought. As for side switching, most players like to fly with the friends or squad mates they have met and flown with here. I think that is why side balancing isn't going over well. I personnally enjoy flying with my squadies and many other rooks that I consider online friends. Just a thought.

I have to agree with the part that some fighter aircrafts should be immune to ENY.

As far as side switching ... why deny yourself to meet other and new people in the other countries ... I fly for all countries and have many friends in all countries.

I fly with them one day and have a blast ... the next day, we are killing each other ... and guess what ? ... when I return ... we fly together again and have a blast.

Don't paint yourself into a corner and think that the only good people in Aces High are the ones that you are flying with today.

I agree Slapshot and didn't mean to imply that I don't like flying with others on all teams. I have flown with a great many from all sides and enjoyed flying with them all. Point taken.  :)
