Title: Need USB CH Throttle Tech :)
Post by: shoppe123 on January 10, 2002, 07:18:00 PM
Been pulling my hair out as a newbie trying to set up my new gear. Almost there  :)

The two items I'm dealing with is my new CH USB F16 Combat Stick and a new USB CH Throttle.

I've got them to work as "one unit" now. So I'm pretty satisfied. I notice now the joystick on the throttle doesn't do anything (which is probably no big deal anyway) but the POV switch on the throttle doesn't work either. That I could use. In AH I only have use of one POV switch also (on the stick). So I assume I *could* use this extra POV on the throttle if I could figure out how to activate it.

Anyone know how to get this to activate in the CH Manager or in game? Is there possible something I haven't done in Control Panel? If anyone has run into this I'd like to know if you got it figured out. Thanks, LP

Bind AH "Hat 1" to "Hat Switch" on the joystick, AH "Hat 2" to "Hat Switch" on the throttle.  Note that moving the throttle hat toward the mini-joystick is the "up" direction.

The Pro Throttle X and Y axis is for the mini-joystick.  You can bind AH "View Pitch" and "View Yaw" to them, then in View Mode Pan (F8) you can pan the view with the mini-joystick.

Well after a few hours of playing around I've not figured out a way to do these things  :) LP

Use your 8 way hat on the throttle, using your control manager software, disable both boxes at the top Shift and DX settings I beleive they are and then on the first line you can enter Kp 2 for your six view, kp 4 for left wing view, kp 1 for left back view etc. then program one of the buttons on the throttle handle for kp 5, now you have 16 views at your disposal.

Well out of complete desperation, I gave up and reinstalled the whole works. Even though I did this about 5 times now.

Before in control panel I had the throttle and stick as one device.

Now they are seperate devices. Not sure which way is the right way  :) I'll try this for now (2 devices) and see what happens. I seem to have a lot more options now in AH, but I haven't really tried programing the whole thing yet  :) I got such a migrain from this today I thought I was gonna die  ;) Going back in to see what happens now. It would be so much easier if I had any clue, hehe. LP

Well I heard that Slugg from AW didn't play anymore or I'd just give up entirely  ;)

Ok, there 3 main components here. Control Panel which is fine and just does whatever CH Control Manger tells it anyway, from what I can tell. I have the 2 devices listed as one item again so it all seems ok there.

Then there's the game, much like control panel, it just responds to what it's told. Whatever changes I make seem to pop up in the AH game configuration. It's seems ok here.

So that leaves me thinking it's something with CH Control Manager. Lets look it the two things that are giving me trouble. The joystick and view hat on the CH USB Throttle.

The joystick on the throttle says this... Directx mode checked. DirectX Device is joystick1, DirectX Control is Button 11 (Button 11 btw doesn't show up anywhere when I program AH) So far this "stick" does nada.

Then there's the view hat on the throttle. The "pointy" one. It says "POV UP" DirectX mode checked, use as POV unchecked, everthing else says "none" in the pull down menus.

Hope this helps, I really really hope this help, really I do ....Weeeee LP

Uncheck the diretx stuff then ya can put in the KP 2 ( key pad 2 ) in the line below. First question you do know you have to create a map and then enable each device in the map correct? Make your map then save it, then enable it and cal your stick in control manger and AH as well as the throttle. Using the 8 way hat on the throttle enables you to program the 4 way hats on the stick with elevator trim and aileron trim etc. anyway thats the way I like it.

Oh yeah make sure in your programing that you enter all game commands as lower case letters ! When your in map look at the top right and you'll see a question mark click on that go down to the bottom of the page under appendix and click on key codes, thats where ya'll find what the control manager understands as far as key entrys go.  ;)

Programing your 8 way hat enables you to use the snap view setup, the mini-joy in pan is pretty slow, slow enough it can get ya killed. If you disable the directx box and the shift box then under Program Function, normal action you can enter all the AH commands like "g" for gear or "e" for start engine etc. and then save it, name your file whatever ya want then that becomes your map for control manager.

Sorry, thought you might have seen my earlier reply in the Help&Training topic, but I'm not sure how helpful that was anyway.   I didn't know you were trying to set up your controls with CH Control Manager.  I don't even have it installed on my system.   All my control set up has been done entirely within the AH software.

Thank you everyone for all the help! There is a bit of a learning curve with these ch PRODUCTS. :) Everyones help has been enormous! I think I can actually pull this off now :) It seemed everytime I made a few changes I'd end up with something messed up that wouldn't reset and I'd have to go through the entire set up again. Got so I was tried and afraid to mess with it. But now I think I have a chance! THANKS! Now if anyone can tell me how to get my message board user ID back to LeadPump :P John

It works Tyro! And better yet, I understood what it was I was suppose to do!! Thank you!!!! This is GREAT! :) I've been playing 2 days and have 2 kills! I don't think I even got one kill in my 2 free weeks before :) First kill was almost a real kill :) I just slid up behind and below someone who must have been sleeping, pulled up and fired all the way through him. My second kill was in a furball and someone couldn't keep track of everyone, and I was one of those he wasn't focused on :) Now I think it will be months before I get another kill. But it's a great start! I think with a few months practice I might just get decent :) And my controllers have so many options now =) LeadPump
