The numbers lately in the AvA arena are dismal, come to think of it they always have been.
With the new advancement's of the other arena's tankers are left out in the dark. Now i know what your gonna think there aren't many tankers, surely not enough to stock an arena, but you would be wrong in that thinking.
There are a lot of people who like to do nothing but GV fight and capture GV bases 1 at a time, so i throw this idea to you now like a life preserver so the AvA doesn't perish!
In the last days of the CT the numbers were the same. The name gets changed and there are 75 people in the new AvA on a tuesday night, same arena new name.
The Training Staff made a map for the Training Room.
Why not make a map in grand HiTechCreations fashion just for GV's?
Could call the arena" Ground Vehicle Arena "
The number of Tankers that would be in there is tremendous, not to mention large scale battles for 1 base at a time.
It is just an idea though, i miss the days of Thursday night Squad nights in AH-1 when the numbers were 120+ on a thursday night, the competition was out of this world and the FUN METER blew up 30 Mins. into the Evening.I think those times can be had again in that Arena only dressed as a Tank with a BIG GUN!
It would also force a lot of Il-2's with nothing better to do to get in a fighter with the rest of them.

Sweet2th, please describe what would make the ultimate GV map in your opinion. :)
-
Kantorri's Winter and Summer FIN - RUS maps were about the closest I have run across in the AH Terrain layouts.
They didn't have many high mountain terrains, distances were fairly short between spawns and they had lots of well placed Forrests & structures to fight from behind.
These were probibaly some of the BEST terrain maps ever made for AH. They took in mind both the flyers and the GV drivers and made for some of the best fights I have ever been involved in.
I really like Sweet's Idea - would like to see this maybe tried for one night - might be fun. Though I don't think it will pull in enough at first without leaving a place for the flyers. Though a GV arena might be an interesting thing in the future when we get more vehicles in the roster.
IMO, some of the best features for a GV Map..............
TERRAIN:
1. Mix of low rolling hills with open flat spots. Here you can go hull down to fight or make fast runs across the open to new fireing spots.
2. Also a mix of small forests with roads and the low types of grass and single trees as on the current MA maps.
3. Fighting structures (demolished houses, etc.) scattered about as on Kantorri's maps.
STRUCTURES:
1. Towns pretty much as is.
2. Factories, Fuel Depots, Capitals, etc. pretty much as is.
AIRFIELDS:
1. Keep the ones at the front, dirt type fields (as in kantorri's map) with only fighter and attack type planes available.
2. Place the slight larger fields way back from the front lines and base the Medium and (if) larger bombers only there to give the GV players a chance.
Have always wanted to start a vehicle squad - we have a basic mix of vehicles to make it possible now with a little support of the AvA Staff - with more vehicles in the Roster it could become even a larger part of AH.
Lets hope so......
BTY Sweet....I really miss the Thursday Night squad nights as well. Don't know why everyone left all of a sudden. Would like to see the AvA make a comeback.

Being a fan of the ground war in AH Im am in no way opposed to settting a date to try something. I would like to see it planned out rather well and have it on a night where it doesnt interfere with anything some one has planned. I know with the low numbers right now thats a weak point. If you or Sweetcheeks wants to get with me Ill back it and get it run some time soon. I like the idea very much and I think it can be done. Im sure I can round up a handful of willing tankers.

Actually, I (and I am sure others) are looking for something on a REGULAR basis that will attract the GV players, as well as the regular pilots, to the AvA all the time.
The one night "Event" type thing is fun in many cases and has it's place but I am sure you are like me as we would like to see players back in the AvA on a regular basis and even to the point of the big squads coming back on Thursday night.
Many of the terrains used in the AvA are well suitable to the GV'ers. All we ask is that you keep us in mind when you make up the weekly scenario's. The one coming up is a great examples.

ok, so lets make it a REGULAR thing. "Heavy Metal Mondays" 9 P.M. EST . The trick is to get the word out to the dedicated GV'ers and get it set up right from the get go or it will be another passing fad like "Fighter Town" or "Rolling Plane Sets".

PM sent Slash.

The Sherman, baby. The intro of it would facilitate so many historical battles it ain't funny. Of course whenever the Sherman is brought up German armor fans suddenly forget historical settings and such and remind us all theat the PzKmfk Mk XXXV hover ground assault armored battleship that mounted the 3 500 mm railguns (that was once drawn by a german scientist daydreaming and the drawing was recovered when the allies came in, tereby halting it's possible production) was a much better tank. :D

Arlo!
Great, if Arlo's gonna be in the AVA again, we need to institute a "no singing" rule.:D
You back?
RTR
-
Still working on it. Dammit. But ... no singing? :(
-
Well....okay.....
singing... but in limited quantities, and only in key, or off key, or at least warbbling understandably
Or at the very least, in some semblance of a gutteral umberance of some form of human type rythmic noise!
;)

I think I resemble that.
Honestly, after seeing the new F4U and the awesome pacmap, I'm in high gear to come back. Of course, I didn't leave disgruntled to begin with. Ex's have ways of interrupting even the most passionate hobbies (even when they're really not expensive or impractical). Gettin' better now, though. And living within daily driving distance of HT's office is kinda neat.

Jester, sorry i havn't responded sooner i have just moved and they won't have my internet up till the 21st(had to hit the library).I used to sponsor an event in the DA called " Tank Klubb" so getting folks to come into a all GV battle in the AvA should not be a problem, i would say i can get maybe 20 + people in there. We used to get 30+ in the DA for Tank klubb every weds. night at 10 P.M.
I just figured since the AvA was sitting dormant we could get some better use out of it, and i am grateful you feel the same way.
I will get back to you when my system is back up on line.

I am in the process of making a smaller version map for H2H, trying to devise a way to keep the base taker bunch from ruining a good tank battle.
-
Its not "sitting dormant"
-
Thats your opinion.I am still referring to the days when the CT was booming with fun.
-
Yes GV are fun for an event there has been a couple of GV run events that where a blast , But remember this is a flight Simulation game .:aok
-
But remember this is a flight Simulation game .
That has vehicles in it.
-
AvA is about the general warfare, with the limited planeset we're doing a helluva job,
with the limited planesets, I'll be seeing you in hell.
-
Panzzer why would you take anything the wrong way?
I simply propose making it a Multi-Tasking arena.I bet you if there was an all GV arena it would have over 30 people in it as a minimum, keep in mind that the " maps " need to be really good, there would always be a lot of people in there.
-
Sorry, didn't mean it to be against your GV idea, just venting my frustration about hosting an arena where no-one usually flies when I'm on.
My apologies, I didn't mean to hijack your thread.
-
I simply meant to maybe use the AvA as a testing ground for maybe just maybe a GV Arena in the future. There really are a lot of Tankers out there, you would be surprised.
-
I spent the time between my posts yesterday in the arena, had a fun time, so as I said I apologize for my earlier post.
I'd go with Slash's idea with one GV night a week, how about the staff will enable the GV's for the week according to the setup, then someone would need to step up and organize a night for the GV'ers. We have some maps where this would work and which I would be glad to be part of, then some of the maps don't have as good GV spots. All it requires is 2 bases with spawns close to each other, right?
Thanks for your new ideas.
-

Yep, pretty much so.
I am putting the word out so hopefully after the holiday there will be a very large turnout, i usually get 20 to 30 to show up for an event or snapshot, hopefully i can get more for GV night and make something out of this.

Sweet2th<
>, This idea of yours is great and long in coming. My squadron (JG-3 Udet) has always enjoyed the large scale GV and tank battles. We have also wondered when more ground armor would be added to the game for even more realism in battles. You can count on myself and my squadron to help get this off the ground.
A few of us will be there this coming Monday Night, but you can expect more of us after the Holidays. I am even thinking of having our regular Monday squad night in the AvA just for the GV end of it.
I am sure you will be able to draw many other squads like the LTAR's, and a few other ground unit based squadrons. It is what we have been waiting for!:aok
-
I am sure you will be able to draw many other squads like the LTAR's, and a few other ground unit based squadrons.
Exactly my thoughts, get people like dr7, loony, hooter, SEdan, Sirvlad, etc.
The more the better , doesn't matter who we get attend as long as we can have all tank battles.
I am glad you have shown interest and look forward to good things to come.

Sweet2th
, we were able to get a contingent of JG-3 members into the AvA arena for this first night of battle. It started out well enough but soon we found that the enemy started to up aircraft with ordinance and bomb and strafe the armored vehicles. This eventually led to our side doing the same. It was our understanding that this time period in the AvA was to be for GVers only. What Happened, or did we misunderstand the scenario.
My squadron is ready and willing to participate in this venture, but if it is going to turn into a bomber vs GV kind of battle we might as well stay in the late war arenas, as nothing has really been done to make this an all GV battleground!
JG-3 is no stranger to the AvA, as we were once strictly a CT (combat theater) squadron. We had the numbers and quite a few times, owned the old CT. I would be willing to move my squadron back to the AvA arena for some special GV scenarios, but only if we can be sure that the playing field be held to what this time slot was intended to be for... Tank Battles.
I am sure that we might evetually even hold a few regular squad nights of air to air battles as we used to as well.
JG-3 can put up the numbers and will go toe to toe with anyone who cares to face us... win, lose, or draw. The main thing we all want is to have some fun and try something new. This whole idea of yours was what brought us back to the AvA in the first place and we still want to support you in getting it out of the air and back on the ground. Let us know what you need from us to make this a successful venture and we will step up to the task. We can bring the numbers back to the AvA, but let's do it one step at a time.
We of JG-3 Salute you Sir<>!

We are still in a planning and idea state right now TD. It wont be a regular thing until after the first of the new year. I still have to respond to quite a few PMs on the subject and and get input from the rest of the staff before we make a weekly thing.
-
Yea what Slash said. The numbers that are gonna show up for this event on monday's are gonna be HUGE.The main goal of this idea of mine is to boost attendance in the AvA and apparently it is working.
I am glad JG-3 will be back in the AvA in full swing and i am looking forward to many tank battles with them for i am assembling a Tank squad myself comprised of some good players.
I have full confidence in Slash, Panzzer, and the rest of the AvA staff to make this a very enjoyable event for us all.

VV Slash27<
>, Sweet2th<>, I guess all good things take time, lol. I agree it will be nice to get back into the AvA with JG-3, as that is where our roots are. This venture shows promise and I am sure of one thing... It will bring the numbers back into this arena. It will also be a welcomed change of pace to JG-3 and many other squads as well. Thanks to all who are making this happen<>.

I will be very successful to have a GV night, and if the terrain is compatible to use GVs on, it should be a blast.
-
Rapier<
>, Several of us from JG-3 were there last Monday and it was a blast. The map was beautiful and was a winter setting, and tigers were free, lol. Really beat the hell out of anything I have seen in any of the other arenas to this point. I also found it very refreshing to only have to fight on one front instead of two. Those of us that made it their from JG-3 were jazzed about it. Hope it is a good sign of what is to come. Once it goes into full plan, and we do not have to worry about being bombed into oblivion, it should surely liven up the AvA arena... And with good numbers of GVers.
Salute Bro... TD

it should surely liven up the AvA arena... And with good numbers of GVers.
That has been my mission for the past 3 years, to liven up the (CT) AvA with some action.I put together this little event 2 years ago called Tank Klubb in the DA and the last meeting we had it was a 30 vs.30 T-34 battle with 10 guys on each side running supplies, man that was a friggin blast when you have Hooter & dr7 on your right flank, SirVlad and wonder on your other flank(talk about securitylmao) and nothin but lead flyin in every direction. This action i just described is what we could possibly have every monday night @ 9 PM eastern and it would give something for us all to look forward to, maybe if we get the numbers right, we may even get a GV arena you never know.
