After a very long hiatus, I've finally completed five new sound packs, with a completely new method of filtering and compiling, to deliver the best sound possible on Aces High II.
For these packs, I've gathered up actual recordings of Daimler-Benz, Pratt & Whitney, and Rolls-Royce engines, so the aircrafts sound as close to the real things as is possible in this game. On top of that, I've perfected my gun sounds with actual recordings of American, British, and German guns and cannons. Loud and meaty, but not too loud!
So, go on and check them out. You won't be disappointed. http://www.sitesled.com/members/fruda

That's the reason I only listen to analogue records. :p
And thanks for this, guys. I'll be getting to work on the other planes as soon as I can. I'm hoping to finish the Japanese ones first.

These are great Fruda, keep up the good work
-
OK im dummy,...whats an RAR file and how do i get it to work?
-
Google Winrar and just go from there. It's pretty easy to set up.
-
TY:aok

As always Fruda, absolutely top tier.
Well done!
I truly appreciate the time and effort involved.
My regards,

Nice one, going to be trying these out as soon as I can.

Just downloaded the 109 pack..NICE JOB!
Problem is, I went back to get rest of em, and it keeps linking me straight back to sitesled homepage.
Can you check it out Fruda and see if something is up with the account?
THANKS! I'd like to get my hands on the rest of em.
-
I have to sign up to get the sound file don't I?
-
There's nothing wrong with the account or anything like that. Sitesled's probably doing maintenance, so check back now and then to see if the link works.
-
same here..tried clicking on link in first thread and get sent home page of
sitesled. very interested in checking these sounds out. sounds like you've done
a heck of a job fruda.
-
My compy must hate me, 'cause all I get is the main page. I even searched for your name (as listed in the link.)
-
Well, I just found out what the problem was... So many of you have visited the site and downloaded the packs, and now my daily transfer of 1gb has been exceeded!
Just wait until tomorrow, guys. :p

WTG Fruda!!! Nice job sir!:aok

Fruda,
Ok I downloaded the eng. startup files but they do not mesh w/ the eng. sound file I have.
You have the "Pratt & Whitney R-2800" engine start (engstart.wav)... do you have the idle/eng.wav as well? Same for the "Daimler-Benz 601/605".
-
Any plans on doing Russian fighters any time soon?
-
on installing them? I'm guessing you just relpace them plane by plane....
-
did a search and found what I neded....got a "badblock" on the F4U engine start wav...
Do I download the seperate engine start and where do I put it??
-
These can now be downloaded at Frudas Dedicated Sound Packs (http://www.badcompanysquad.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=99)

Those two files are just examples, I compaired those two with the startup sounds in the zipped files and they are the same.
I'm enjoying the new F4U sounds, great job!
-
Fruda, another happy customer here. THANKS!
-
so what do ya do with the .rar files?
-
You download WinRAR. It's a program like WinZip. Only different. I thought that WinZIP could read most .RAR files, though, so I'm not sure why you need it.
-
no wouldnt read the .rar but i dl'd winrar so im good now thanks :)
-
Hey plp. I got the files where i drope them in the HTC file. I found the sound folder but its clear only one txt file. Where i drop for each espesific plane.

After unpacking the rar file just drop the extracted folders into the sound folder.
Then enjoy!

Great work Fruda nice sound,Thanks

Good Job Fruda,
Sounds are awesome :aok

Thanks for the replies and feedback, guys.
But, I've been flying the Merlin-equipped aircraft for a while, and I'm noticing some faulty looping... I'll be getting to work on a patch for the Merlin engine sound as soon as possible, and I'll make it available as a single download on my site.
It's not that noticeable unless you really listen to the sound, but for (completely neurotic) people such as myself, it's very annoying. I have a commitment to the quality of everything I work on, and I'm just not satisfied when something like this happens.
-
The F4U engine has a VERY noticeable loop, too. There's a pulse at the beginning of the clip that's not as obvious in Media Player, but in the game it's much more obvious.

Hi Fruda. I came in here to say exactly that, about the looping. That being said, awesome work... I don't know if it's my sound settings but the startups are VERY loud but the engine sounds not so much.
I love the diatonic hum of the P&W engines, however, it sounds like the F4U engine has a good bit of distortion as well as a loop.
Thanks again for the awesome work. It adds a whole new dimension to the game experience.
-
ive noticed it on the p51 as well
ps good work and ty

Heh, I noticed the loop on the P&W engine as well... I just figured that I wouldn't say anything and surprise everybody with an additional update. Oh well, too late for that!
It's difficult to work on the looping, as the source recordings weren't exactly perfect... I take a lot of time and effort to clean them up, and the results are something that's miles above the original source files, as far as fidelity goes.
As for the quiet engine sounds, you should probably check your sound configuration settings in-game, because my engine sounds are just as loud as the engstart/engoff ones. I should know, because I compile them in a visual wave editor (plus, I haven't edited my sound configuration, so they're of equal volume in-game).
-
Let me know if you want a pair of ears to bounce them off of. I think I have sound forge and a pair of sennheisers around here somewhere. (Used to do live and studio audio engineering :))
-
I don't think that would be bad at all. If you find anything wrong with any of these sounds, let me know about it, and I'll get right to work. I used to have an Audigy 2 and some hi-fi speakers on a better computer, but I lost all of that a while back, so I'm working with on-board sound and some me-fi speakers... I know how to make my sounds hi-fi, but my setup doesn't display them properly.
And, I'm just now testing a cleaner R-2800 sound file that's been transposed a notch. I'll report back in a few minutes.
-
Okay, all finished. I've fixed the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 and Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, and the flight-tested results are more than satisfactory.

The P&W is super awesome. It's got nice sub-flutters that sound really random.
I can still tell you've got the Merlin looped twice in the sound file with a minor change (?reversal?) near 3/4 to the end of the second loop. The dual note phasing is in the lower range, about 900-1.5khz. I can't find my source for Sonic Foundry :(
The funny thing is that it's probably more realistic that way, what with the constant speed prop and the inline V12.
Feel free to tell me to shut up whenever.. :) Thanks for the hard work, they are great.
-
Oh, those sounds in the Merlin engine are engine cycle blurbs. All I did was edit the source wave to cut out the popping before them, so it's all natural-sounding on the patch file.
Now, there might be an unnatural loop flutter like you said... I'll have to check later, though. If there is, I'll get to work on it and release another patch.
