Can this game be payed for in advance i.e quarterly ?

The USD tuck a dive on speculation that the US economy is headed for the chitter.

$1 today equals 52 pence or $14.95 = 7.60 sterling

When I first signed up I was offered via email a 6-month subbie.

yup, late 04 the rate was crazy, i think it was 43 pence to a dollar, perhaps even less
