This is what it has become.  Its no longer a Sim... but rather a GAME.    :(

And I imagine you with a big, pouting, frowning, baby, gay-ass face upside-down smiley too as in your post...lol.

What a tard.

i flew the same plane for hours tonight. taking off with flaps, pushing the nose over and setting climb angle and trimming manually. landing,  refueling etc - at the end of a several hour run and 5 kills latr i parked it in the hanger and turned the engine off.  maybe try a different routine - it can be pretty realistic i think and fun  :)

S!

Game or sim,who knows.I flew several sorties and got only a few kills and died on a couple of them(stupid HO with Niki  ;))I really enjoy when I get up,patrol and find a target. Then bounce it and climb back to alt. When fuel get's low-->rtb!Furballing sucks IMO ;)

A Sim or a Game, it depends what you make of it.
Couple of nights ago, looked at the map and planned the best route to A17 for a B17 ride. The route took me due south arround the enemy base in a cloud layer. Luckily the clouds were over the enemy base too. So I played hide and seek with the cons. Dropped all eggs, detroyed fuel, ammo and barracks and pedaled home in the clouds. Landed and parked in front of a hangar.
So for me was it a sim - planning the route, the fuel, destroying strategical targets and trying to get home in 1 piece.
When I like to play the game - I take off in a fighter and fly in the nearest furball
This is what I like at AH. You can play both ways. It's your choice.

Funny, myself & 2 squad mates rolled p51's last night. Did a bit of formation flying, danced round the clouds for a bit. Then I had the bright idea of a game of tag. Had to have a good guns solution inside 300 yards, then hit em with a check 6. Well the furball between the 3 of us lasted for 15 minutes and went from 15k down to the deck.

Havn't had that much fun in a LONG time!

(ps its not the game/sim, it's what you DO with it)

well every sence i started  i remember HT allways clamed it was a game.  and the only thing that has really changed here are the way people act.   this is my first online game and first flight sim game. but back in beta every one was allways friendly. but over time yelling about everyone cheating and how much the game sucks. seems to have become the politcly correct thing to do.
i dont know about the rest of you  but if every one hates this game sooo much  y do you fly?

Try a "Snapshot" or "Check Six" event.

Well.. in the last session of AH/Quake, I ran into a few guys from AirSquadron uppin some jabo's toward a9.. I put up a call to give 'em a hand; and next thing I knew; we had about 25 guys pounding it into submission...  We went from there to knitland where we rolled up about 8 fields..

And dammit; the Check Six was a blast too!

I'm tellin yah; this sim is getting so damn quake-like it's awful.. just horrible!

Tards.  :)

Well, DUH!

It never was a true "Simulator". I seriously doubt you'll ever find one that runs on a desktop PC. If it TRULY simulated WW2, it'd be very boring (for me) to play as well.

You want to fly 12 hours on a round trip bombing mission to Berlin? With maybe...MAYBE... 2 hours of "action"? Go right ahead.   :)

My question to all such posters is "If you are so bloody unhappy, why do you play here? Can't you find a better place to spend your $30, a place where you will enjoy the experience?"

If I was so emotionally distraught and unhappy with a form of ENTERTAINMENT (ie: "game") I'd just move along.

I most certainly wouldn't continually wail and gnash my teeth on the BBS, trying to get everyone to wail and gnash along with me.

Even with the advent of WW2OL the AH MA population hasn't changed much. It went down a bit...but there's been no mass exodus. I think HTC knows its market pretty well and are serving it in an exemplary manner. The Check Six Friday and Saturday were excellent. As the game grows, things will get even better.

But hey...that's just me. I LIKE this game.

...and I want the rest of you to be happy too. So, do what it takes to "be happy".

Unless, of course, that means continually trying to convince everyone else they are NOT happy.    :)

I have a blast with the simulation involved in this game. How's that for a point of view? hehehe

As far as people ranting and raving online, I either don't see it or don't pay attention. Most everyone I run into are friendly and generally honorable.

You can go furball or fly strat...it's just about what you want to do!

Toad,

it would be nice if the combat experience were a tad bit more believable.

Unfortunately, as someone who has seen AH develope since open beta day one, I am of the opinion that the more AH matures, the less believable it becomes.

Game vs Sim: We have had this discussion with Pyro numerous times and he always talks about the balance between game and sim and how hard it is to achieve a good balance.
I can easily agree. Realism vs gameplay vs believability is probably the most difficult hurdle to steer clear of and stay clear of.

At this point, AH v1.07 finds us in the midst of a troublesome inbalance between gameplay and realism......believability.

Many people that have recently come into the game neccessitate squelching ch 1 daily in order to preserve any quality to the experience.  God help me but paying two dollars an hour, as much as it hurt, really preserved the quality of the community.  Those days, for better or for worse, are over.

Im about done with it.  Ive always said the game is what you make of it but it becomes harder and harder for me to make it enjoyable for myself.

I had hoped AH would be the portal to the next level but Im afraid we are in a holding pattern.  Its a great piece of programing, perhaps the code qualifies it as the best available to the public but some little gremlin, hiding deep within that wonderful virtual DNA is rearing up his ugly gameboy head trying to make us all dweebs of the highest order.

hehe.....jmo

Well, Yeager what can I say?

I'm sorry it isn't enjoyable for you.

Perhaps it's just expectations. AH is pretty much what I expected it to be and I enjoy playing it. It's a good game.

I never thought this would provide the same feeling I get formation flying the BT-13 and chasing another BT-13 around the sky trying to get on his six. I never thought this would be so "real" that I'd have oil smeared on my clothes when I walk away from the computer like I amost ALWAYS do after fying the BT.  ;)

I never wanted to go through a 27 step preflight. I never wanted random mechanical failures to suddenly end my fun.

The MA is a "fun" place for me. I also enjoyed that V-1 Snapshot and plan to attend more of those.

I don't worry about F4U-1C's or N1K1's. A target is a target. I don't worry about HO's; they're so easy to dodge it's laughable.  ;)

I'm not sure what you expected. Obviously, it's not meeting your expectations.

OTOH, I have absolutely no idea of where HTC is taking us next, but I look forward to finding out. Every release/update seems to add something new and improve the experience. I'm along for the ride and enjoying it. I plan on sticking until I don't.

Everyone has to decide for themselves. That's the way it is and the way it should be.

I'll miss you if you leave but I'll understand.

Right now, however, I see nothing else online that even begins to make me smile the way this game does.

Good luck to you!

<S> Toad

Without doubt AH is proving successful.  So many new folks are coming in and staying beyond the two week trial.  People are really enjoying themselves.  Success seems accomplished in the larger context.

But for me, the way Ive seen things and percieve them today, AH has outgrown me, not the other way around and this really is a compliment to HTC but also an explanation to them about my particualar point of view.  As a customer I owe them that much.

Im not looking for actual realism.  Im just looking for some predictable and believable balance in the results of what I do here.  A fair level of believability is all, but thats just me.  I remember when the Chog was released, thats when I really first figured out that something was developing that I had not anticipated.  Today I feel the whole game has evolved into one big Chog.

BTW, dont count me as one who wants actual
realism.  Preflights, engine start ups, 5 hour flights to nothing!  that aint me!  However, I do want to believe what I am doing actually generates similar results to what would happen in real life.  If five rnds of .50 cal are all it should take to kill a small ack then thats how it should be in AH.  If a .30 cal cuppola MG can destroy several strafing Tyhoons in reality then thats how it should be in AH.

But, many things seem way off in my opinion.
Example: Today I used a 75mm howitzer on LVT4 dropping 7 rounds directly onto the top of an Osti at about 1500 yrds.  The Osti continued firing at my team mates.  At that time a B26 flew over strafing me with his tail gun and after a few pings I exploded.

Want to kill a CV or Cruiser, just get into position about 14k over fleet, spiral down and dive your plane into the ship releasing two 1k eggs just before contact.  Works pretty much every time.  Many other examples I could go over but the final analysis is that something is really out of whack and has been for some time.  At least in my estimation.

How about that N1K, God what a wonderful ride.  The ability that plane has simply amazes me.  Even spits are meager in comparrison.  Armed with four 20mm cannon the thing is a trigger tap monster.  There just seems to be something in the make-up of universal physics that simply does not apply.
However, it is beyond me to describe as I am simply a layman living within the physics envelope nature has seen fit to provide.

Still, AH is a great game.  I just wish it was more than a game.

Y

Yeager,

I feel I better understand what you've been saying now.

Additionally, many of the things you have said above I agree with.

Also, I know they are working on and "tweaking" some of those, like the GV armor. We just had a revision of the armor code, an acknowledgement of a problem. Obviously, if your examples are typical it's still not quite right.

However, I believe the type of post you just made is the way to resolution. I hope you will also E-Mail that to Pyro; I doubt they have the time to read everything we all stuff into the bbs.

I think they welcome questions and suggestions when put in a proper format. They are about the most customer oriented firm I've seen.

There's been far to many flame-filled accusatory critiqes and ridiculous claims of bias hurled at them.  Fortunately, some of the worst of those guys have moved on or changed their styles.

I think if the community can point out a perceived problem and document it... in a cogent, mutually respective way... HTC will take a look at it.

I don't expect instant action, but I do believe those things get put on a "to do" list.

I think your above post is progress in that direction. Please forward it on to HTC.

Don't discount that you may be experiencing a bit of the "honeymoon" being over.  I think this occurs with almost everything we deal with...we look back with rose colored lenses.  I sure do with the music I listened to as a teenager and many other things I participated in along with those early flight simulations I played.  I'm pretty new to AH, but I don't kid myself that my enjoyment of it will never change or wane.  Things change.

What Frodo said, we had 60+ fliers in Friday nights scenario, was a friggin' HOOT!

Also, on Sundays, we have a HISTORICAL MAIN ARENA NOW in the SPECIAL EVENTS ARENA, where field capture is possible, and a large selection of historical matchups are allowed, unlimited lives too!
