Title: Advanced Dungeons and Dragons
Post by: Regular on December 06, 2006, 07:30:21 PM
Just installed the old DOS Gold Box Games Pool of Radiance and the Savage Frontier series.

I wonder what will become of my mental and physical health by time spring comes around.

Only trips outside of my house is to buy fresh food and the liqour store.

Being a loser does'nt get better than this!

Those were fun, but for real old school comp rpg fun Darklands is the best. Real time medieval combat in an era when every other rpg had boring old turnbased lameness.

Last one I played was about 10 years ago. It was "Curse of the Azure Bonds". Before that it was "Secret of the Silver Blades". I have three more on the shelf behind me still unopened. "Gateway to the Savage Frontier", "Treasures of the Savage Frontier" and "Pools of Darkness". The reason it's unopened is that I get my D&D fix from Everquest but I've always had it in my mind that someday I'd give them a play. My only worries would be 'will they play' on today's machine and if they do will it play so fast that you can't see whats going on. Back when I played "Curse of the Azure Bonds" the computer speed was so fast that the combat went by in light speed. Still playable but made it hard to follow. The machine I have today is so fast i've always wondered how the games would play on it.

Let us know here. Do those old DOS games play OK on todays machine?

You should try to get outside once in a while to practice with your light sabre (if nothing else).

You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door.
There is a small mailbox here.

Yes I am playing theses in this order= Pool of Radiance,Curse of the Azure Bonds,Secert of the Silver blades,Pools of Darkness,Gateway to the Savage Frontier,Treasures of the Savage Frontier then onto  Darksun Shatterd Lands and Darksun Wake of the Ravager.

Im using DOSBox on my pentium 4 to play and they play great. I have tons of other DOS games in my hardrive. There is something special about them that new games do not have.

The AD&D gold box titles definitely had a negative impact on my GPA.
