In past spit-related discussion it was mentioned that you cannot make a system where the same plane could have different engines, or even different wingtips, and whatnot.
What about playing inside the limitations? For example I was thinking about the B25. Hypothetically, if we had this plane, with a glass nose, would it be possible to:
have gun option 1 "add" a mannable gun in the nose, with clear parts
have gun option 2 "add" a gunpod into the nose, sized and positioned perfectly so that the glass nose is covered up as a solid nose, with 8 guns in it?
Is there a way to add or remove a gunner position as an option? If removed, can you no longer jump to that position (i.e. if you have the solid nose option and "jump" to the nose gun, will you just see the inside of the gunpack, or would you be able to disable this gunner position based on the option chosen?
All pure idle fantasy, mind you, but I'm curious what you can do with the system, for weapons options.
You could get a clear-nosed mossie bomber from this as well. Have the nose by default be clear, and when you choose guns the "gunpod" perfectly fits over the clear nose. Then all you'd have to do is disable the bombadier's position.

Ponder on this. We have the "same" plane with different paintjobs, different loadouts and ordnance, and behaving according to the load and fuelburn, WEP, etc. So why not? Different engines meand different power and...oh...powercurve, as well as different weight and c.o.g.
But different power is already modelled through WEP and throttle, different C.o.G. and weight is modelled through i.e. bombload and the fuel in various tanks (and the fuelburn is editable). Stall behaviour is modelled through this, but the wingtips call for another graphic routine, so that would maybe have to be "another" aircraft.
Anyway, I think this is all easily within HTC's technical power.

Well, I said that first part because HTC said they can't do that. That's from the horse's mouth

Correct Krusty.
I remember asking about it, and was told it wasn't possible.
I can only assume the FM's can't be modified 'on the fly' for differences between say a Merlin 66 and Merlin 70.
Would guess the same applies to the wingtips.
Shame really, the options would be great.
Just love to see a Mk VIII with a Merlin 70 and extended tips options.

Me thinks the tips are not possible due to the modeling of the planes and how they are saved on to your PC. i think adding something like tips would mean having to make another spit 8 with the large tips, dont think you can just 'grapht' on different wing tips (like a plastic surgery lol), think it would take an operation that a normal PC with normal software cannot do....... thats just a theory though:huh
