3 guys go to check into a hotel. When they walk in the bellboy say's "the room's are $30 a night". Well, these boys are lookin to party so they all want the same room so they each hand the bellboy $10. (10x3=30)

The bellboy walks up to the counter and the desk clerk says "you idiot the rooms are on special for $25 a night". He then hands the bellboy back $5 in $1 bills. Trying to figure out how he is going to give 3 guys back 5 $1 bills the bellboy decides he will give each guy back $1 and keep $2 for himself.

If the bellboy gave each guy back a $1 that would mean each guy is basically spending $9 for the room correct??

Soooo....if 9x3=27 and the bellboy kept $2 .....and 27+2=29

Where did the other dollar go? :D

ok, mine:

in the mountains there is a modest little log cabin. inside the cabin is a dead body with a bullet wound to the head. the ONLY thing in the cabin aside from the body is a broken pencil. all the windows are shut and all the doors are locked. what was the course of action leading to the man's fate?

AAAAHAWWW i got it! well almost

If a room cost 25 dollars between the 3 of them they must pay 8.3333 dollars each 8.33 repeting x 3 = 25 so its not 9 dollars a  person thats not right. of im half way to solving this puzzle now to finish it!!!

Platan0 he tricks u in the riddle by when he says the bellboy gives back 1 dollar to each of the men but 9  x 3 = 27 not 25 it should cost each guy 8.333 repeting dollars to equally pay for the room thats the first trick in the riddle there is still the second part to figuer out or i think so anyway.

A girl is now as old as her brother will be when the girl will be double the age of what her brother was 5 years ago when the girls age was half of the sum of their current ages.

What are their current ages?  ;)

Nowhere.

It's deception.  The $2 in the bellboy's pocket should be subtracted from the $27, not added to it.  In short, the dollar you are looking for is actually in the hotel's cash register.
$27 - $2 = $25 (what was paid to the hotel) or
$25 + $2 + $3 = $30.

Classic example of misdirection.

Teh men each paid $9 for the room or $27 total.
The hotel got $25 and the bellboy got US$2 so 25 + 2 = 27.
It's a trick question and the 30 is not the solution (it's the number that makes you confused).

You put the proper context on it and say each man initially paid $10 and had $1 returned to them.

Sooo.... 30 - 3 = 27 = 25 + 2.

You can't give an abstract riddle, like "a broken pencil and a bullet wound" because riddles should give all the information to figure it out, you just need to use your mind. You can't assume there's a hunter nearby firing bullets, or what-have-you. Most riddles have just 1 answer, and if you can come up with 50+ hypothetical answers, it's not really a riddle :) My opinion.

Look, 30 bucks paid, but the price was really 25. So 5 bucks extra. He gives 3 bucks back (25+3=28) and keeps the other two (28+2=30). There's no missing dollar.

It is easy to calculate if you just can formulate an equation from the unnaturally long sentence.
My mind also began boiling after a few conditions in the sentence in the initial attempts, but I solved it :)

A man bought a baseball bat as a christmas gift for his overseas friend and went to post office to mail it. The postal clerk told him, that he would have to pay a double fee because the bat was 125cm long. Anything that was wider, thicker or taller than 100cm would get charged a double fee.

The man left the post office, went to another store, bought a box for the bat, came back to the post office and managed to send it with the regular fee.

How did he manage this without breaking the bat?

Diagonally. If he puts it in Diagonally in a bigger box, it could fit into 100cm

Okay here's an oldie:

Who makes it, has no need of it. Who buys it, has no use for it. Who uses it can neither see nor feel it.

Scott,

a coffin and a stamp ;)

--------

Two of the older/traditional type:

1. "A rich man puts it in his pocket, a poor man throws it to ground"

2. "You break it if you say it"
Title: Post your Riddles....
Post by: macleod01 on December 14, 2006, 02:31:25 PM
2. Silence
Title: Post your Riddles....
Post by: BlauK on December 14, 2006, 02:33:00 PM
Yup, macleod

--------

Similar to Scotty's:

Who makes it, does not want to keep it.
Who gets it does not know it.
Who knows it, does not want it.
Who wants its, destroys it.

"A man had only one match and he had to light up a cigarette, a lantern and a stove. Which one of them did he light up first?"
Title: Post your Riddles....
Post by: macleod01 on December 14, 2006, 03:03:44 PM
Last one, two possible answers.
1. He can use the same match for all 3
2.The stove caus he can light both the Ciggerete and lantern from it

Ive got a good one for you guys.

A man wakes up, sees no sawdust, and kills himself.  Why?

Probably have to ask questions for this one.

Caf,

"The man is a midget who bills himself as the shortest man in the world, and "performs" in a travelling circus. His home is a caravan. A jealous rival has surreptitiously sawn the legs of his funiture off so that by comparison he appears taller. The effect of this is that the man mistakenly believes that he is growing. The lack of sawdust demonstrates to the man that his furniture has not been shortened..."

Seems like a variation of a blind dead man, 2 sticks and sawdust.

... seems like one can nowadays google just about anything :)

1-An old lady thats about to die if not taken to the hospital immediately,

2-your best friend that saved your life,

3-the perfect woman of your dreams that if you may not ever see again,

perfect woman. if he's your best friend he'll understand, and if he's saved you before he might be able to save the old woman ;)

But it says no person was involved in there death... The plane would have a pilot...  Hmmm I think mine sounds better :p

And no I did not read the whole thread (Yes I am a bad little boy) :P

OK Try This One:
I can carry a man and keep a ship from leaving port, Yet I can not stand up by myself...
