Alright, I just got mine a few hours ago, and I have a question. I went to their website and searched, but couldnt find an answer. I want to add a movie to the iPod. I have the movie on DVD, but I dont know how to upload it to iTunes, and thus put it on the iPod. Does anyone know how to do it?

Handbrake is a free tool to do what you want.
If you have a mac, it's cake:

Here's the experimental Windows port:

I ahve windows :(
Downloading that port thingy now.

Downloaded it... what do I DO with it?

You have to rip the movie into a portable player format. Should be an option under the ripping section of the software. Once it's ripped, you import it into the ipod library, then copy it to the ipod.
It's a neat concept, but eats the battery fast. I can't get a full movie out of just the charge on the ipod. I picked up some $8 one use booster batteries and that makes it doable to get through a few.

Unfortunately, I need another program (which I have found) but its so technical I am entirely lost...

Hey Reynolds,
Fist thing you need to do is get it off the DVD and into your system as a Quicktime or AVI file. There is an app called Cinematize
http://www.miraizon.com/products/cine2features.html
that will do this for you. This is assuming it is not copy protected. If it is your on your own.
Once you get it into the system you can use QuicktimePro, $29.00 upgrade from Apple, to convert it to an iPod movie. The iPod uses Mpeg4 clips with a H.264 codec.
Good Luck,
Big Mickey

lol. Have you not noticed they dont WANT you to do this?
I cannot afford that $29 quicktime upgrade. Is there any easy free program? Can I just import it with iTunes?

Handbrake does all of it automatically. Spend 5 minutes reading the website, there's plenty o' docs.

I did. it lost me here:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Create a shortcut to HBTest.exe. Right-click the shortcut you made and go to Properties. For Target, copy and paste:
C:\Handbrake\HBTest.exe -i "e:\video_ts" -o c:\dvds\HANDBRAKEMOVIE.mp4 -e x264b13 -w 640 -l 480 -S 400 -t 1 -d -B 96
5. You'll need to have some, not much, but some basic knowledge of the parameters above. i = input directory (usually your DVD drive and the root \video_ts\ folder), o = output directory, e = encoder (don't mess with this one), w and l are resolution (you can adjust this to 320 by 240 if you want faster encoding), S = final file size in megabytes, t = title you're ripping (this is usually 1 on most DVDs but you may wanna check in your DVD player software first which title you wanna rip), d = deinterlace (I highly recommend this on many DVD titles, especially anything homemade recorded with a DV camera), B = audio bitrate (96 sounds great to me and boosts the video rate by not being 128).

Lol I spent WEEKS on this with my little girl's Ipod---I have a dvd/capture/burner, which saves anything it captures as Mpeg2's...when I did the 29 dollar thing and got the full version of Quicktime....(changed it to Apple format, and shrunk it to somethin like 320X240..forget) we had videos, with NO audio:furious :furious ...toodled around a few MORE weeks, and found that Ipod demands mpeg4, not mpeg2---found a freebie program called Cucusoft (actually only the first few conversions are free, then ya have to pay them) that changes the mpeg2 to mpeg4, which I THEN ran thru the quicktime converter...and the fluff'n thing actually worked (later found that the Ipod can deal with the mpeg4 in the small format just fine--so need need for Quicktime)---I have to believe the Creative video thingie is more user-friendly

cucosoft is what my friend uses. can I just use that from the start to rip it from the disc?
-
Indeed, I'd return the iPod and get a Creative Labs.
Good luck though, I hate iPods.

LOL!!! Your sh**ing me right?!? lol! I waited until they came out with a video, holding my tongue, and now that they came out with a very good one, I finally threw all my cards in, pulled every string in sight to get this. Im NOT taking it back now! lol.

Nah, it doesnt rip, is only a conversion program--- I THINK Itunes can rip mp3's tho--Ipods are ok for most part---just very tedious to use if ya arent buying ur songs from Apple

lol. Well, my friend said I can probably get cucosoft from limewire, and I think I can, so whats a good ripping program? Trial versions are fine, I can knock off all the movies at once.

No, as a matter of fact I'd go with a PSP before an iPod, but then again that's just me. As BJ said, they are tedious to use without Itunes. Call me crazy.

As far as music is concerned, its just as easy to use things other than iTunes. Its just videos and pictures that are throwing me for a loop. (Pictures because I can only upload them from one computer without having to entirely erase my iPod)
