How exactly do we use the new check box in the object properties in OE?  It's called sub-divide squares.  How is it used?

If you want to layout an object that would be mated on 1 mile tiles you could use this option instead of having to make each one a separate tile.

We use it when laying out large air fields for CT.

Note you should not have any objects that cross the 1 mile lines. But wrather have them mate at the boundary.

When you build the .shp file, it will create multiple shapes, one for each 1 mile cell that has objects in it.
