Title: World Of Warcraft Question
Post by: Regular on December 17, 2006, 10:40:28 AM
I would ask this over at the WOW boards but I have to be a game subscriber to register.

I know you have a month free when you purchase the game.

So if I go and buy this game today and install it, does it ask for my Credit card number before my Free month is started?

I remember Everquest does this.

I don't remember it doing so, because after the trial you can switch to game time cards or CC.

WoW is fun when you're doing endgame stuff. :)

WoW is carebear central. Bleh.

You should give a try to a game like Eve Online (http://www.eve-online.com), a game that allows this kind of stuff to happen:
The Guiding Hand Social Club Heist (http://eve.klaki.net/heist/)

(Btw the 16,500 $ real-life value is totally bogus. Only in-game money was 'stolen')

You don't need to buy a box, and there is a 15 days trial (no credit card needed):
trial link (https://secure.eve-online.com/ft/?aid=101707&nogreet=1&ad=Google&keyword=Google)

Later , you can pay with CC or with time cards, that you can buy with in-game money (and this is allowed by the devs!)

I play since a little less than a year (2 accounts now), and I enjoy it a lot. The possibilities are HUGE. There are a lot of aspects that I haven't approached yet.

However, this is not a spaceflight sim.

I don't remember either but you can buy prepaid WoW cards and never give them a credit card if you want. BTW, the expansion becomes available on Jan 16.

Their new opening cinematic is pretty cool: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/downloads/movies.html

Yeah thats what I wanted to know.

I remember EQ to use to ask for  CC number even before your time trial started.

So says the guy who plays the game where to advance your skills, all you do is wait out a timer, and game time cards are worth 3 battleships :) I'm biased though, the equivalent value of my WoW char translates to 5 fully loaded motherships.

I play WoW in the evenings, and Eve from my office desk. IMHO, WoW just has a better total package. More people, pvp that doesn't cost you hours of work, and some devilishly hard raid encounters.

Frostwolf - US (pvp) - Horde, 40man main tank
Eve Online - D2 Vassal, North Deklein resident

both are really good games though :)

Spend another $15 on a time card. Pretty sure you can then use the number on it instead and use your two months without a cc. You might awant to contact Blizzard customer support first though.

Shadowbane is the most bloodthirsty one out there IMO.

I havent come across any other games where you can build your own city .. walls.. shops.. gaurd barracks.. and then have to defend it from other guilds that can litteraly burn it down to the ground.

You can also kill your own guild mates... it's totally openended and the whole political spectrum is entirely based on kill or be killed, greed and fear.
