First off thanks for all the kind replies to my topic "Just When You Think You Have it All Figured Out" regarding my complete Dweeb moment in the MW arena. I posted this in the hope of adding a little lightheartedness into the forums which have been a bit to tense for my liking in the last few weeks.
I would also hope that it encourages other to post similar threads regarding their Dweeb moments in the game. After all every last one of us has done something like it in the past, if that wasn't true it wouldn't have the comic effect that it has.
So post away kids! What was your dweebiest moment in the fun filled skies of Aces High?

I remember flying in one KOTH where there were three people left that round.
I was engaged with a marshmellow roaster, a plane on fire, and of course his life span was limited to say the least.
Needless to say I augered trying to engage it :D
We wont go into my hosting of the afore mentioned event. :)

sitting on a large, de-acked airfield with 4 squaddies in tigers, camping the VH and runways right in the middle of a peak time numbers furball.
each of us scored over 60 'kills' shooting at planes taking off and proxies from the enraged dweebs upping il2s and 110 and trying to ram us out of the hangers.
between 4 of us, all in tigers, i believe we got over 230 kills in an hour.

Being ranked #5 overall as a #'s dweeblet about 10 months into the game!:(
-
i remember when u could park an osti on the middle of a field and totally shut it down :D ...
-
Was in AH1 roughly 2 years ago.
Upped a flight of Ju-88 and had absolutely NO clue how to calibrate anything. Approaching the enemy base at 10k I saw a swarm of 4 or 5 cons coming up to kill me. I dropped my bombs which landed about 2 miles away from anything useful into water :D .
This seen, most of the chasers turned away from me, prolly laughing their tulips off :D . Only one con stayed which I could shoot down just before he killed my own, totally battered plane :o .
:aok this addicted me to subscribe for 2 months, until my back then scarce money had to distributed to food again :( .

...milking a radar base in an AR234...
...and then being shot down,...in said 234. :o

Switching to ground view by pushing Alt F4.....instead of Shift F4. Unfortunately it still happens on occasion.
-
Drove a Tiger to enemy field when it first came out.
A lucky bomb drop from someone knocked out the tracks and the turret.
I sat there, in the middle of the enemy field, acks up, buzzing with more planes than a wasp's nest. Everybody is out to get me. All sorts of crazy bomb drops, desparate strafing, etc etc.. zounds, people start crashing down all over me.
As I sit there for 20 minutes, finally our friendlies came and took the base. My Tiger, a heap of smoking metal on the enemy runway landed safely with 13 proxy kills.
Man, it's as good as it gets.
-
The list gets longer everytime I fly. One of the most recent was turning my gazeaway from a sure kill on a guy to listen to what my wife had say..........
-
finished typing text, went to hit enter nothing happened.. hit it twice more....lol
-
Got used to flying the jug that I forgot about the 38's compression... was in the a 38 providing a cap over a field. saw an upper and u can guess the rest :D :lol
-
I was switching weapons & they wouldn't switch. Next thing I knew I was in a chute . wrong key DOH!!

Or how about wen U release eggs over a target to only only have the blast kill you also :lol

My dweebiest moment was coming into airfield for landing a little to hot and running off runway and asking where do I get new brakes:confused: serious:rofl
-
Pick one:
- Crashing into the wreckage of a Lancaster in my 262
- HOing in an La7
- Vulching in an La7
- Killing LVTs in a 110 or Typhoon after CV dies
- Dive bombing GVs in TT in B24s
- Camping an NME runway in a Panzer landing kills as formations of bombers auger trying to divebomb me
:D
-
My dweebiest moment was actually in Pacific Fighters. I was putting on an improvised air show, doing very slow speed (70 M.P.H.) maneuvers fifty feet off of the ground in my big Lockheed fighter. There were several people watching from the tarmac, and they expressed admiration at my expertise and precision, as well as disbelief that a P-38 could float around like that.
I confess that my ego was feeling rather pleased with myself. I did an extra daring maneuver, and pulled it off perfectly without a hitch. That was about five seconds before I stalled, spun, and cartwheeled along the ground before bursting into flames. For a while after that, we used to joke that "everyone loves my air shows, especially the big fireball at the end."

Back when (Carolina Piedmont IronHeads) I just logged on and one of the squadies called out "quick get a goon and come to A1".
As I turned the key and pushed on the throttles, the 2 Allison 250 engines were just coming up to speed when I went to WEP and banking by the tower.
Then getting a chance to pull up the map, the red bar was maxed out and it looked like there were only 2 friendly flying over the base. Not looking for a quickie I pulled back on the stick for max climb.
Watching the battle while I climbed, grabbing a sandwich and a cold 1, I was now right over the base at 20k. I could hear on local they were finaly working on the town, so I started a slow 15% turning dive.
With nothing but green on the map and some 50 flyers buzzing the field they said come on in. 1 mile out, doors open at 1000ft, I called back and told the boys to get ready to bail out, passing over the base at 125mph for a good drop I looked back and told the guy lets go.....
They were pushing a cargo box out the door!:O

Being the only Gonnybird w/drunks and snapping the wings over the town.
There were 3 rooks already sitting on the enmy runway eager to tower in there new base.
Just after finding out why the capture didnt happen the ack came alive and killed them...:furious
After that not a word was said the rest queitly rtb.:(
But at least I got 1 out.:aok

Vulched someone landing their kills after the war was won.
Was drunk and thought they were just running from me.
Definately the ****est thing i've done. :(
30mm HOs are pretty dweebish but I only do that to Pony and Zero pilots who are stupid enough to try and HO a 109 lol :aok

Flying a goon in one of Birdo's 110 missions. "Landing" it by the town, which involved multiple structural failures and a couple side rolls. Many many drunk Birdo curses over VOX.
Then a base capture.
Oh yeah.
-
Flying in a P-51, just below cloud level. I'm relatively high and fast, someone higher can't see me, what can happen? Then the familiar sound of bullets hitting me and some loud crashes indicating major damage. I tumble helplessly to the ground.
When enjoying my plummet to certain death I see a tailless P-47 tumble down with me. Turns out that he was shot down above me and on his way down got a million to one chance to shoot at me... and hit!
And another more dweebish event: Upping a Seafire for the first time, dragging people into ack and shooting down a few. Running out of ammo after 9 kills and subsequently crash and die on the carrier due to unfamiliarity with the aircraft... :(
-
played for a very short time in a knight's squad, still AH1 one. Dont remember the name, but one of them (maybe the leader) is named Maik.
Never flew a 109 seriously (they only flew 109s), we upped a flight of 3, going heavy. I got my target on the ground instructed and wanted to divebomb it....
Going down from 25k, heavy... throttle not back. I noticed my mistake when I released the bomb, flying parallel, co-speed, to the bomb right into the ammobunker I was supposed to hit :D . Die-hard lesson on what compression is all about

In the first couple of weeks playing this game I finally learned with Thunderegg and Flaydones assistance how to use the dang bombsight and hit targets.
On one mission I was over a base that was hotly contested and the bish were in the process of taking the place...
While over the bombsight I was so intense on hitting something...anything...for once that I completely missed the VOX calls that we had taken the base.
These calls then turned into "Dont drop" calls. Needless to say for the first time i dropped a fighter hanger, the only one that had popped up by the way on a newly captured Bish base...yeah pretty impressive moment there.
Luckily we managed to hang on to the place without fighters...major dweeb moment complicated by my celebration of the FH destruction, which was followed by about 12 notifications that I had killed our hanger.

Dweebiest or most retarded moments:
Anytime I neglect to select a runway, hangar launching a bomber mission.:furious

Thought I'd try a 109 for the first time this year. Augered the first one, upped again and augered the second one in the same tactic. Same guy got the proxy on both.....

I've never known of a time where ProtectObjects was off in the MAs. That's the setting that, when on, doesn't count friendly damage to objects.

(nostalgia) For the first time I have enough perks to fly a 262! Excellent. The ENY situation means that I can be a jet jockey. I have practised taking off and landing a couple of times, and I probably have as much experience flying the 262 as a real-life Luftwaffe pilot of 1945. I resolve to be cautious as I fly my first flight in a 262.
I am in the air, flying around at twilight in my 262, laughing at the other players as they crawl slowly through the air with their old-fashioned pistons and propellors. I see a P51 above me, and I climb to meet it, and by a fluke I land a hit and it disintegrates! He didn't see me coming. I vertically intercept a P47 that is climbing out of a dive, and miss, but I almost had him. No-one comes close to hitting me. I am king of the world! You little people in your obsolete machines, you are the past. I am drunk on power. I might not score any more kills but I am at least master of my fate.
Drunk on power I engage a B17, which in retrospect was a ridiculous decision. Its first shot gives me a pilot wound. Blood on the glass. Lots of it. Nasty. I scurry back to base as fast as I can. I make it! I am going to live. When I land I will have a big dollop of black pudding and twelve pints of Guinness. That will restore the lost blood.
I come in for landing, which is tricky in a 262. I have slowed right down. When landing a 262 I have found that there is a final approach, and after that there is a final, final approach. I don't quite reach the final, final approach when my head starts to droop and my vision blacks out. I am about a hundred feet off the ground and going at 220mph, but my engines are off and the flaps are out. I hit the autopilot and turn the engines back on. For a few moments I worry if I am going to hit the hill that is directly behind the base, or if I am going to stall.
I recover consciousness but I am past the runway. I turn around and dodge the hill, and almost line up on one of the shorter runways, but I lose consciousness again and drift over the base, again, at about a hundred feet and 220mph.
This goes on for several passes. My bouts of unconsciousness are in synch with my landing approaches. I should have taken a chance and flown away from the base for a short while, and made a better approach, but I wasn't sure how much blood I had left so I screwed the whole thing again and again.
Eventually I expire about a hundred feet above the middle of the base, travelling at about 220mph.

Taking an osti to a strat trgt, long drive, level the place. Enmy shows up in osti and I .ef
not much hull gun left tho =)

sat at the end of a runway of a field we were taking in a tank and killed 11 guys trying to take off. very dweebish but i only got 1/3 the kills the guy on the other side of said runway got.

They might have just been in the process of taking the base...goon in sight of the map room sort of thing. So in the minutes before taking it, he was able to drop the last FH before their drunks ran in...just a thought.

im told the dweebiest thing ive done was eat the 68 group alive in aircombat over and over again last night.

Someone already used mine but... When I was learning the Ostwind I would take it to enemy fields we were attacking if there were no vulchers attacking our fields and shoot low n' slow cons that had just taken off for target practice. It was usefull target practice and helped me learn how to lead with 37mm at various target velocities but I would never do that now...Quite dweeby...

Every night, I think I reach a new all time low.

Geez, there are so many to choose from... Ok, got shot down over ENY base, bailed ran to end of runway and shot planes with my 45. The quit upping from that end of runway so I ran and hid in the hanger until my 45 was empty.
The other was when I got shot down (yes I get shot down a lot) over ENY base, bailed, ran into hanger only to find someone else in there hiding. We kinda scared the hell out of each other. I'm yelling "don't shoot" over vox while we're both aiming our pistols at each other. I had to laugh, here is two cartoon guys hiding in a hanger waiting for the base to be captured.
Last, when I was new I once tried to put my 45 in the view slot of a Panzer... Hey give me a break, I was a new guy.

I rarely set up missions but one night I decided I'd organize a B-17 mission over an airfield then a VB base.
I set it up for 10 pilots, full load out of 1000 pounders. I kept announcing the mission on our country channel and kept setting the launch time back until I finally had a full roster.
OK. 2 minutes to launch. 1 minute to launch. What the hell? I'm in the hanger throttle wide open! I'm headed toward a building. Turn, turn, turn I think. Uh-oh, I see others crashing. I'm on the radio... "stop, stop, stop!" People are saying something to me which I'm sure isn't complimentary as I watch the carnage unflod but I'm lost in the terror of the moment trying desperately to get off safely myself.
Somehow I got one plane off the field and so did two others but they're well ahead of me now. I'm on the radio. "Stop, stop, stop, we need to re-do this with a spawn setting. If you're up please bail" I finally got close enough to the guys in front of me and we all bailed. I re-set the mission and thankfully everone re-joined the second time but that's probably my dweebiest moment.
Sincere appologies to all who trusted in me that night.

So we got 4 110's going NOE into a nice V base. Were all heavy with drop tanks. Its about 2 sectors away, and WEP'n it all the way. Well Im spearing fish at about 30 ft off the deck. Go to autopilot. Good time to MT tail gun. Finish, nice and light. Picking up speeed, wind sounding excellent. I click on my DT's status, and watching the flow of high octane fuel get slurpped up. Good time to go get another brew, hit the head.
8 Mins L8r alright were still nice and tight getting ready to pop.
*VOX-- Get ready to drop tanks**
Well at that time Im
Going through check list.

I consider it my greatest moment of Air Warrior and Aces High.
A certain squadron was rolling a carrier based mission to launch when the CV was nice and close to the enemy base. After much of their careful planning they give the roll command. Just as their airplanes spawn on the carrier with their engines up to speed...I command the CV into a 90 degree turn to port.
Each and every heavily loaded F4U and F6F went plowing into the tower island of the CV to the amazement of the mission participants. They had no idea what had happened and I vacated the scene before I could be convicted of any wrongdoing.
My only regret is I was not rolling film the day I became an instant quintuple ace.
-
"I watch the carnage unflod"
That's a very good quote and deserves to go in someone's signature.
"Good time to MT tail gun. Finish, nice and light."
I don't mean to apply rudder to the topic, but is there a speed benefit if you get rid of all the MG ammo in the rear gunner position of the Bf110? And for that matter the Ju88s and other aircraft with useless, counterproductive defensive gun positions?
-
Usually involes augering a P-38 while diving into a furball while i'm sure everybody was laughing, and then there was that time i upped a 262 and then flew over a field with ack getting shot down and augering into the ground without shooting anyone. :cry :O
-
Besides the normal compress and auger situations...
Mine was in AW. I'm in 38..lined up on a Bz goon..when I hear
"plink plink plink". I'm looking all around..freaking out that I got bounced. The whole time I'm still hearing "plink plink plink". I start rolling and doing my best to evade this evil inviso-con.
"plink plink plink"
Red screen o death.
I forgot the goon had a single rear gun on the side that was just chewing me up in a slow and painful death. I lost 8 kills and caused our field to be captured cause I made the "I got him" call. :p
Either that or last week when I chased a dot for a whole sector before I realized it was a spot on my monitor.
-
"Either that or last week when I chased a dot for a whole sector before I realized it was a spot on my monitor."
I feel your pain. Aces High is the only game I have played where a speck of dust on the monitor can upset my peace of mind.
I'm flying along, without a care in the world, and I check my six and suddenly it looks as if someone is sneaking up on me. Whichever direction I look, there's a baddie above me. Crap, I'm surrounded. I must have dozed off.
And then I realise that the monitor needs a wipe (perhaps a spider poo-ed on the glass).
-
My favorite dweeb moment occurred about two or three years ago. One of our notorious motor-mouth players (at the time) was reminding everyone how terrific he was. I offered to meet him in a quiet part of the map and he'd have an opportunity to impress me.
The agreement was to meet at 5k between bases. He was flying a P-51D.
I had already taken off in an SBD about 10 minutes before. I fully expected him to cheat on the altitude, climbing high and diving down to 5k with a ton of E.
When I spotted his P-51, sure enough, he was up around 10k. Unlucky for him that he failed to cheat enough; I was at 14k and converted the extra altitude to speed for the co-alt merge. He died three-quarters through his high, lazy first reverse.
So, he whines uncontrollably on 200 about how I cheated....
Out-dweebing a dweeb is always fun.
My regards,
Widewing

There have been many, I'll just relate a recent one.
To avoid the accidental bail by typing previously mentioned I had set my bail command to "ctrl-enter". This was a few years ago. I generally don't bail out so I had completely forgotten that I reset the command. While flying the first frame of the last BoB scenario I took damage requiring me to bail and I hit the enter key several times with no result. I had some altitude so I opened the control menu, found the bail command, and noted the setting. I was still dropping but I was quickly running out of time to bail and survive. When I went to close the command menu I somehow managed to delete the bail command and close the menu instead of simply closing it. I opened it again just before I hit the ground. It was, of course, a one life per frame scenario.

actually the one that gets the award comes from the 2nd round of the KOTH-TOC recently held......
BluKitty wins the first round and has chosen the Big Blue F4U-4.......I'm thinking excellent I might have a good chance of winning this round, so into the skies we climb, battle 1, victorious, engage in battle #2 - victorious, battle #3 victorious, thinking yeah babie I got this round, battle #4 -bamm victorious - fuzeman comes over the intercom - 2 left, heck yeah I am one of the 2, I am flying toward the low dot I see in the SW corner, I got dot visual he is low, I am near 5.5k alt, I got this one yeah babie, so I start a shallow dive to gain some E, knowing full well I will rope this person and be victorious, dangit I got con range.....it is no other than BluKitty...doesn't matter I have the "E" on em, and I going to wear em down.so I drop just below 3k Alt, and start my merge/immel then oops I am faster than I had thought----6K alt Cap is approaching fast, 5.3k/5.5k/5.7k/ I pulling hard and at 5.9k-6.0 I am inverted but cross it up and snaproll into a spin.hearing plink-plink-boom ............and I truly felt like a Dweeb that night.......as Blu acknowledged later that I really screwed that one up bigtime......
-
I've done the lawn dart bit more times than I care to remember.
Not to mention chasing a dot on my monitor.
My dwebiest moment was rtbing to a base that had just been captured. The worst part was I saw the announcement in the text buffer not five mins earlier. And as I'm coming in to land I'm looking around for the con on my six that all the ack is obviously firing at. That is until it starts tearing me to pieces, and the realization sinks in. Hey! This isn't my base anymnore.
-
How about HO'ing HiTech's sleigh in a spit14 with 4 kids watching over my shoulder screaming, "SHOOT HIM UNCLE MAKIE!!!!!!"
Or being at 8k in a tempest, seeing a high Ta152 diving, pull up and ho, we both explode.
Or upping 262's in Fightertown, back when we had that...fun stuff...
ohhh...one more...
Upping a flight of b17s at TT, dropping all the bombs on the runway, then cruising around at 20k killing folks who come up to get the "Dam TT VH killer!" AKA the Gunship Strategy
hehe
