Being a Norwegian I found it amusing to see your avatar. We're such a tiny little country (4 millions) and so it is fun to see Norwegian references in this big world. It's sort of like a small kid getting excited when he is noticed by the big boys;)
So, Pyro, I thought I'd share some trivia concerning "scream" - In case you don't read Norwegian news.
A while back "Scream" was stolen along with another high profile Munch painting, "Madonna". They were recently returned without any light on why and who. Both paintings were severely damaged and will, according to the museum, never be completely restored.
Hmmm... Wait a minute!
Pyro, were you by any chance in Oslo the 22. Aug. 2004? :D

Is your avatar off a radiohead album?
-
I find it surprising that you would think that "The Scream" would not be well known in the US. It's a very famous and popular painting here although many would not have heard of Munch. That's not necessarily unusual though- one of the most famous paintings here is "American Gothic" but Grant Wood is not a household name.

The theft and recovery were widely reported here as well.
-
I saw on the news today that the painting has gotten some damage that just cant be fixed :(
BTW jodgi... you are about 10-25% off on your headcount :D

i am very familiar with both "The Scream" and "American Gothic". i was however, unaware that it "The Scream" had been recovered. really sad to hear it's been irreparably damaged. really sad indeed.
i've always been a fan of "The Scream". for me it was indicative of our societies self-centeredness and the "all about me" mentality. that guy alone on the pier, in his own private despair, while others just walked on by, oblivious.
thats the beauty of art. we all see many different things in a single painting.

I remember a couple years ago Pontiac used in a commercial.
I thought it was appropriate.
