Gonna have to show me an actual image of that paint scheme. Never seen it in all my Spit researching years. Looks awful to be honest :)
The ones you ID'd as Spit 8s are on Spit IXs. Fixed tail wheel being the first giveaway.

it was only painted once guppy, it was a famous british CO's skin on was of his final missions.
Skin for the stock Spit IXc as Spitfire MkIXc MH358 YT-J, Sqn Ldr J.E. 'Jas' Storrar, No.65 Sqn RAF, 'Operation Starkey', Kingsnorth, 9th September 1943. Note the specific identification bands worn for this op only

I have some specific sources for an good 109F with desert 2-, and 3-, tone camo. I just haven't got around to any of them. I've got a couple P47s in the queue and a hurr1.

Starky Spits had white bands. never saw em with black as well. Jas Storrer is a well known RAF pilot. Flew Hurri's in the B of B and in the desert.
Wondering if it's meant to be just white like the rest of the Starky painted birds.
If you come across a photo, let me know. I've never seen that one before.
Not saying it never happened, but surprised by it. Definately not adverse to learning more Spit stuff however :)
