I grew up in Alaska and one of my hobbies was destroying beaters; I’ve killed more than I could count.
Around 1989 my sister documented one episode on slide film. I recently acquired an older slide scanner and have put it to use.
Here are some pictures:

Note the loose dirt from where the leaf springs dug into the ground on the landing.

My best friend rode shotgun on one jump; it was a big one.
In spite of wearing a helmet he hurt his head on the roof; a not so well padded seat spring scraped my back.
On this jump the nose of the truck hit the ground hard enough that the bottom of the radiator smashed open.
Even worse, the moose horns broke off of the roof.

Sand in the carburetor killed it on this one. Even so, this was $50 well spent.
If you like this, you will also like my Toyota Corolla and Cadillac movies which can be found at the bottom of my movie page:

I don’t know “Top Gear” but my youth in Alaska was one big stupid episode of ******* (without the cameras, money and fame).

1.) Where is the 'after' shot.
2.) How did you get home?

Unfortunately I never did an after shot, but I can tell you it didn’t look too bad. I know I broke the front windshield and headlights and it had a few dings. That thing was a tank. I think I sold it for parts for $25… I’m not sure. I’ve destroyed a couple dozen cars: some were sold for scrap, some given away, some abandoned and a number were set on fire and shoved off a cliff.
Work was 1/2 mile away from that creek. I know I walked away from cars that I soaked in that creek more times than I could count. I’m not sure if we towed it back or drove it back. I do know that we got it going again.
I’ve walked miles and miles from cars that I’ve busted or gotten stuck. My old roommate used to get pretty ticked at me because when I drove to the store I’d often try to jump my bug over an 8 foot tall snow pile. It almost always would end up on top and we’d have to walk home in the cold and dark. He’d always drive me back and pull my car off though.

Thanks, that was probably the funnest non-cartoon TV show I've ever seen on the Internet. It's long but worth watching.

The late 80s toyota 4x4s are the best automobiles ever made. I paid a months pay for mine and it's going to roll over 200,000 miles soon. And I don't plan to replace it ever. The only car I could ever envision as a replacement in terms of capability, durability and dependability is the landrover defender. But I'll never pay more than 10k for a car so, if my toy bursts into flames or something, I'll probably just buy another 80s toy 4x4.

Yea, I thought the fire was more like arson to spice things up; it was still a good show and made a good point.
I think I've watched at least a dozen episodes since this thread appeared. My wife even likes the show.

A new series starts in January, it is on the BBC, might be able to get it on one of your channels over there.
Women tend to like the show for Richard Hammond.
(btw, he was seriously hurt driving a rocket car for top gear but has since mostly recovered. He should be back for the new series doing something, if not the mad stuff. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_yorkshire/5365676.stm )

you see the episode where they take the Supercars through paris? Get stuck in a Hotel car park? that one is good.

The had Top Gear on Discovery when I used to watch a good bit more of TV, not sure if they still do. Always seemed like a good show but I always felt that commercials bludgeoned it to death.
-
also very funny one where he is made to drive a nissan ,

The great thing about the BBC is they have no commercials. I remember when Top Gear was a show in manner of many British TV programmes. Interesting but rather tame and mannered with excellent chaps discussing the virtues of the various automobiles featured. Then Clarkson arrived.........Sometimes it's genuinely the funniest thing on television.

Unless my eyes deceive me... Thats not a Toyota at all... Its about a 1973 or 74 Chevy Luv.

Yeah a Toyota can't be destroyed that easy. In Top Gear they droped one specimen 5 meters from a crane, sunk it, burned it, ran it through car durability testing tracks etc. and they still could get it back running with 15 mins max work.

LOL, you are so right! I remember now, it was a Luv. I only had the thing for maybe 3 days and that was about 18 years ago, but it was a Luv. Had it been a Toyota it would have lasted at least a week.
Thanks for pointing this out.
