have to do to get someone to do this skin for an 84?
http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/f/771/65/3/11
I know I should try and do it myself, but truthfully, I don't have the knowledge, the time, or the talent to do it. I'm active duty military, part-time college student, father of 2 toddlers, and working on getting a clothing company off the ground. I just can't do it.
So, what would it take to get someone to do this one up for me?

Ohhh that is sweet!

Krusty???
I spent a couple hours tonight digging thru the past 100 days of posts within this forum and you seem a man capable of, as we say in the CG, "making it so".
What would it take Sir? A bottle of spirits?
ANY1????

Awful busy, what with job hunting and the holidays and all. See my reply to your main forum post: If you can dig up any other info that'd help. I can add it to my queue, but I've barely logged 5 hours this past month of flight time (insert big frown here)
-
No worries then Krusty. You sound like you have a lot on your plate. I'll keep researching it however, maybe if I get enough together, someone might give it a go.

Update: The plane is historically accurate. The 58th Shimbu Tai were assigned to Kamikaze mission escort. I have contacted the publishing company that the artist, John Weal, is associated with. Apparently he is a pretty famous and knowledgable artist on the subject of Axis aircraft.
Wish me luck.
-
Are you going to give it a go?
-
i don't think so, though i would love to. see my first post in this same thread for why i won't be doing this.
i am having a good time doing the research though. there's a certain sense of satisfaction to be derived from wanting to know something, and doing what it takes to learn it.
i really wouldn't have any idea where to even begin doing a skin. i do suppose that if i tried, even if it took a year to do, it would be rather enjoyable.
i really like the mission assigned to the Shimbu Tai squadrons, of Kamikaze escort. what i've learned so far is that the KI84 was known to the japanese to be a GREAT fighter, possibly superior to allied greats such as the p51d, and as such, they would not waste it on kamikaze missions; so the Shimbu Tai were formed and given the 84 to run as escorts.
more to follow...

Update:
Rcvd an email from an Editorial Assistant with Osprey Publishing. The are "happily forwarding my request" to Mr. John Weal via traditional post mail since he does not use email. Seems strange in this day and age but different strokes for different folks me says.
Anyhow, cross your fingers for me. I hope to engage in a 1 v 1 conversation with Mr. Weal regarding this aircraft.

Interesting, I didn't know that's what Shimbu-Tai did. I did a Shimbu-Tai skin (red arrow) and that actually clears up its role in the war. Good to know!
-
Hey Krusty- any chance you might consider trying this one yet? =P
-
if you want i could have a stab at it.
not done a japanese plane yet so always open to a new challange
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm speechless. I would forever be in your debt if you would RogerDee! The Ki84 is my favorite plane in the game. I did a ton of research on this plane and even exchanged correspondence with John Weal, the artist for the print I referenced.
What do you need from me to make it happen?
-
if you have anyother pictures that would help or if you can send me amail with a list of your research and some examples or if you websites.
these all help when the skin is sent in to varify the plane.
-
Ok- Gimme a week to get everything I know together.
I'll be in touch.
-
I'd like to see that one in the game also. Cheers to its author.

well this is what i have come up with in the little time ive had avaible.
i don,t think the green comes out right so ill have to play around with it.(http:// (http:// (http://

Wow! That's looking great! The author of the original print lives in the U.K.
From what I gather he's quite advanced in age and doesn't use a computer- so all correspondence is done by handwritten mail- which creates a time delay in trying to get questions answered and whatnot. In his last letter he assures me the aircraft skin is actual and since he is a recognized authority on the subject of axis aircraft I have no reason to doubt him. He said stated the Japanese, knowing the aircraft was valuable, would not sacrifice it for kamikaze missions. As such, the 58th Shimbu-Tai were assigned kamikaze escort mission and painted their planes with the skull and crossbones you see in the print. He also said that the leading edge on the wings were an orange color (one the Japanese used as a standard color I guess on many aircraft), and that the bottom was a gray and crept up a bit on the fuselage. I'm hoping to get more info soon.
Thanks so much for doing this RogerDee. I'm super stoked. Once it's completed, how long does it take for HTC to approve it AND get it introduced into the game?
-
depends when the nex skin batch is being readied to how long it takes o get in.The skins were suppose to come every couple of weeks.
if i finish it next week and send it in with any extra info you ccan provide it then takes a few weeks if we are lucky.
once it is done it can be uploaded to the skin site and can be used and viewed off line.
-
That is a sweet plane love that skin good find.
-
RogerDee- My comp blew it's PSU and I'm finally back online after getting a warrantee replacement installed. Sorry I just dropped off the planet there for a bit. My job blocks the HT forums so i couldn't post to tell you what was wrong.
So where we at? Do you need me to scan in the letter I rcvd from John Weal to send to you?
-
i am still working on it got to do the wear and tear and the dirt, but at the moment i can't seem to stick to doing one thing,i have the need to do a bit then leave it for a while.
i think the letter would help in proving to HTC that it was a real aircraft.send a scan to m when you get a chance no rush.
good that you got your pc back up and running
-
Sweet! I fly the 84 w/Jolly (Porkfrog) quite a bit and this will be a cool addition if accepted.
Thanks!

Ok, hopefully this works. Here are the scans of the letter I received from John Weal. The handwritten notes on the last page are his. I'm trying to track down the book he mentions now so I can get a color scan of the page he sent along.

i should have this finished this week and sent in so maybe it might make the next lot of skins ,it all depends when the cut off date is
-
Wow, I'm reading one of John Weal's books at the moment.
It's good to see he takes the time to respond to people with questions.
-
Yes it is. I just sent him a letter which included 2 color prints of the screenshots of the design that RogerDee is working on. Told him that without his help I would have never gotten this far and that RogerDee wouldnt have been able to submit the skin to HTC. Mr. Weal really knows his stuff about axis aircraft and seems very nice. Not often an author would take the time to write back to a single individual.
