Title: Christmas eve night in the arena
Post by: ridley1 on December 24, 2006, 11:08:05 PM
The night effect that was brought in I thought was really good.

Not too dark but enough to change the game, add another challenge.....

Only problem was that the moon should be on the other side of the hills. Not between me and them.

only reason it was night was cause Santa was in the arena

Hey ridley,

The moon was originally modeled to be in the correct plane, behind the hills. But Silat complained to HiTech that is just wasn't romantic enough in the arena with it like that

I agree with you though, the moon should be in the right place or it ruins my immersion. :aok

I beg to differ.  You must have your gamma set at 2 or something.  I couldn't see the map, cons or anything else.  Bombing was impossible.  And I had the pleasure of losing three bombers to a con I never saw.  Some challenge.

If you cant see at night
YOUR monitor isnt set up correctly.
thats not intended as sarcasm but rather what the real deal is

Posted a link a while back on how to properly calibrate your monitor.

I know when I went there I thought I had mine set up pretty good.
And even mine was off and a set a bit too dark.

Im busy wrapping right now But when Im done I'll look for the thread I posed the link in and repost it

Oh, so the moon wasn't in the tower this year?  Sorry I missed it... But that was a little disconcerting last year when the moon was inside the tower windows...

Was not HT doing his usual Christmas present to the arena or is it that your quote is reversed. ;)

Merry Christmas all.  Thanks for another wonderful year of fun.

I flew within feet of him, but stupid me forgot to turn the gamma up. Do have a nice film of it before someone got on my six and shot me down

Dangit, I've been waiting three years to see this thing, each year forgetting about it right during the last couple days before Christmas. This year I thought it was to be done on Christmas day.

Humbug.

if you dont like the dark then turn your gamma up. i wish we could have he dark back. loved it when we had it. but to many people cryed about it and HT took it away. i am also happy that we have a test tube map of the Pizza Map it was nice to fight in the canyons again.

I was dead-sticking, oiled out, having glided a good 20 miles in a d9 on base leg about 1500 feet when the lights went out. that sucked, because it made me made a mistake and crash because i couldn't see the rwy!

overall though, it was interesting. I dont like how acks can still see you at night as well as they do in the day tho..

It is a rediculous thing to do, changing it instantly to very dark. I was in the middle of a great(thus very rare) fight when it happened.  My opponent was able to turn  up his gamma but I have a new monitor(Samsung 244t) that I am not yet familiar with so he was able to evade me and break off.

Twas maddening.  If I want my kids to see Santa i'll pop in a video for them.
I didn't log on to a site for which I pay to play on in order to have this kind of bush league stuff happen.  Do it in an arena where their aren't a ton  of people.... or don't do it at all.

You seem to be the only one extremely beefed so far, Steve.

You can adjust the Gamma setting of AH using the video settings on the clipboard.

You clearly don't live in Los Angeles :D   It was 70, clear and beautiful here.

Where did you get your gunsite?  I like that and I'd like to make a modification of it for myself...  Thanks.

"I was on a guys six and then the lights went out........#@$*&"

We have an old saying in Aces High, if you've been around long enough, you know it. It is:

waaah!

Seriously, night was freaking fabulous, I was always bummed when it was taken away before.

Bring back Pizza and night, c'mon!

I forget when I started playing seems like 3 or 4 years ago, but the game has come so far since then, awesome job. Now of course if your point of reference is the end of your two week trial 6 months ago, then maybe you can't relate. Thanks for all the hard work HT & crew, it really shows.

LOL ... whinning about an Aces High tradition ... you were forwarned .

I'd luv to see the night brought back ... it was great ... and even better now that I dont have to touch my gamma at all .
the only problem is the Mrs Roo gets out the candles and puts on the stockings when I dim the lights in the room.

(Walks in...looks at ground...shuffles feet...)

Sorry Meatwad.

I'd missed it when HTC upped as a Bish Santa. So, when I heard about it, And found out that he was at 41 as a rook, Me and VansCrew decided to fly over and have a look. As it was, people tried to engage us all the way to the Red Man's AO. I'd twisted my way out of a couple of spots, and your LA looked like one of the ones that had made a pass at me...Thought that whoever was trying to deprive my 7 yr. old of a look at SC, was going to get a 20mm lump of coal in their stocking.

'Course, After that, I believe someone aced the Sleigh, He went nit, and the rooks were S.O.L.

Anyway, Enjoy the rest of your holidays!

P.S. Maybe HiTech can up a Baby new year on Dec.31st.

Sound EXACTLY like a challenge to me, one that you utterly failed to meet, but a challenge nonetheless.

I've never gotten to see Santa.  I'm always 200 miles away doing the family thing with no computer in sight.

I wish they could do it one more night like Christmas Day (night) or New Years for those of us who are always gone but I guess it just wouldn't be the same.

Damn it, I'm not getting my $14.95 worth.  I quit!

Even though I'd never get to see it how about making all the troops into little grinches for the night?  The Grinch who stole A5!  perfect.

just remember to ask HT to adjust "ColorLight[night]" so all sliders are to the right, and night time is as clear as day time.
