I'd like some info on the place.
Considering moving to some northern state and there's little i can find out about WI.
-
While I don't live there now, I grew up in southeastern WI (Racine). What is it that you would like to know? There are plenty of sources on the Internet for the basics (population centers, history, politics, etc.) I can tell you that outdoor activities (hunting, fishing, softball) are popular, as well as drinking. There is no shortage of bars and taverns in Wisconsin.
Big cities are mostly in the southern third of the state. Big meaning more than 50,000 people. After you get north of Madison the population density drops rapidly. The people are pretty friendly, mostly.
If you don't like cold, stay away. The winters are usually fairly mild, at least in my home town, but every 5 years or so there is a nasty cold streak. -30 sucks no matter how much you are wearing. Summers can be wicked hot, and always humid (not like Orlando, but more than I prefer.) And if you have a fear of tornadoes, it's not the place for you. It's at the northern end of tornado alley and a few towns have been scrubbed clean.

It is a pretty state if you stay away from Milwaukee.
Lots of beer, cheese, and bad pizza.
Packer fans are die hards.
Oshkosh is more than an airshow, it is the Pilgrimage. Sadly becoming too commercialized.
Mostly flat, though there are areas of rolling hills.
Much fishing and hunting.

Come to North Dakota!
Its quiet here mostly, the 3 big city's are really not that big. But big enough to be able to get most anything you want. Unlike really big city's elsewhere where it can take 30 min or more just to get out of suburbia. Up here 5 minutes in any direction puts you in farmland. Fargo is less than an hour from some of the nicest of Minnesota's lake country.
All of the northern tier states are going to be tough on you weather wise.
Northern Minnesota is some of the prettyest country in the world even now.
Lots of green trees, blue lakes & lots of space.
Jobs tend to be hard to find there however.
Still if I was serious about moving north from Florida it wouldn't be to already overcrowded Wisconsin. North & S Dakota, possibly Northern Minnesota or Eastern Montana all have good potential.

I hail from Milwaukee. Anything specific you might be looking for, Tac?
-
well mostly i like mountains and lakes :)
I was born and raised in a valley and florida is just flat and super humid so its miserable for me here.
Just wondering what the area is like as far as costs. you know, gas, electricity, water, etc.
I had no idea WI was tornado place. O.o Do tornados happen even in the cities/towns in the mountainous/hilly areas to the NE of the state? thats the area i was looking at.

What are you looking for; why are you moving?
-
planning to move. just getting prelim info.. scouting places before taking a week to visit them and see for myself.
i just dont like florida heat and humidity. and the flatness. ugh.

Northern California...best weather, no tornadoes, no Hurricanes, and lots to do. You can surf in the morning and snowboard in the afternoon on the same day(if ya want)...it's paifully expensive to buy a house, and there are ocasional earthquakes and a majority of the people here suck...but besides that it's great. Also if the world ends on new years day at 12am, you can watch the carnage for three hours on fox news before we go too.

11 years ago my wife and I spent a few months driving and camping around the South Western US trying to figure out where we wanted to live. It was a great experience and we ended up in Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs was a fantastic place to live. It wasn’t until we settled in that we realized that the nearest kayaking and cross country skiing places were hours away in the mountains. This was a big disappointment since these are my two favorite forms of recreation.
Anyway, doing your homework and visiting places like you plan is a wise idea.
What’s your line of work?

I wouldn't call them mountains. Hilly areas is a much better description. And it tends to be cooler up that way. When tornadoes do occur, they tend to be in the southern and western parts of the state.

While I was stationed at Ft Leonard Wood I did some cold weather training in Wisconsin. Being from Michigan I thought it would be a piece of cake. Boy was I wrong. That was the coldest two weeks of my life. If I remember correctly we were about fifty miles west of Milwaukee. It didn't seem like it should have been that cold. Many times we in Michigan fail to take into account just how warm even a frozen Lake Michigan keeps us...

And as a general rule Wisconsin is warmer than Minnesota & North Dakota.
Tac, if you want mountains, I'd suggest the ozarks. Not so far north as to get culture shock, and not so likely to hit -39 below regularly.
Otherwise your best bet is that big pile of rocks in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado.
Both Minn & Wisc have lakes in abundance. Minnesota's tend to be natural lakes, Wisconsin's tend to be man made, both have lots to offer.

Go to NW Arkansas in the Ozarks.
Its cheap, and there are tons of jobs. I spent my college years there and I got really spoiled.
I've been everywhere and I have never seen the combo. of affordability + beauty and cool things to do in one place
Out West is probably better, but its just so damn expensive.

"it's paifully expensive to buy a house"
well.. that would be a big off for me hah!
im single so im chronically poor ;) . looking for something under the $150k range.
Thanks for the info guys, looking up info on those places mentioned. Montana was in my list but even though I LIKE the cold i dont want to be bellybutton frozen all year long. WI weather seemed a bit better from the stats i pulled up. Can't beat montana for the views though :)
My line of work is mostly open. I can do anything from Tech support to travel agent to general office work. Haven't found 'my career of call' if you could call it that so im open to any good job i can get. im not picky.

Green acres is the place for me.
Farm livin' is the life for me.
Land spreadin' out so far and wide
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.
New York is where I'd rather stay.
I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore a penthouse view.
Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue.
...The chores.
...The stores.
...Fresh air.
...Times Square
You are my wife.
Good bye, city life.
Green Acres we are there.
:aok

If you like mountains and Montana, consider Idaho also. I’ve driven through the state a couple of times and was impressed.
