Hmmm. It's been so long since I've seen that, I don't know.
Since you are not "dialing up" anymore, I wouldn't expect to see that little icon. I'm at a loss. Right-click "Network 'hood" and choose properties. Now go into the properties for your NIC, and see if there is some option to do with it in there. I have no option to turn anything like that on, so I don't know what else to tell you. If you still have entries in your "Dial-up networking" folder, try the properties of that connection in case that's where the display is coming into it. What happens when you right-click on the modem icon with the lights? You can also hit Ctrl-alt-del and from the task manager try killing running processes until it disapears. This will give you at least the name of the process, and at the worst case you can kill it manually before playing to see if it is the problem.

In another thread Snafu had a great idea! Simply hide the task bar. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Try this: Right-click in an empty part of the task bar, and choose properties. Put a check in the box labelled "Auto Hide".
Snafu came up with this to get around his Zone Alarm tray display giving him a similar problem.

If you are using PPPoE with DSL you may have these icons. I do. Don't know why you would want to get rid of them though. Maybe there was problem with DUN, but none that I know of with DSL.
