Title: Can someone answer this one?
Post by: IronDog on December 25, 2006, 08:43:11 AM
I just built a Puter, and I set up two Raptor 74 Gig HD's in a mirrored array. Now everything works fine, but down in my taskbar is a message,...safe to remove hardware.I'ts refering to the two Raptor 74 HD's.Perhaps Skuzzy has a thought on this one? It's my first raid setup, and perhaps this is normal, but it seems a little odd to me.

SATA boards can be removed anytime so the icon just verifies this as a SATA device feature. Probably not too wise to test it with a RAID configuration.

Just ignore it.

I get the same thing all the time with my media reader. It uses a USB header.

That comes up when windows detects some sort of removable USB media.

Guess what? SATA is considered a type of USB. Why Windows thinks it's even remotely removable -- I couldn't fathom. Just ignore it. I have for some time now.

sata drives can be removed and installed while running.  I do it all the time, but I have never done it in a raid configuration.  That icon down there is to stop the device u want to remove before u actually remove it.  Its to prevent coruption of the device by shutting it down before u remove it while the computer is still on and in windows.
