Which do you like Better AH Original or the Current AH II???

AH1 because of how it was played. Yea the porkers were able to kill fuel down to 25% and it sucked but the fights were a lot better. This is coming from a furballer but fights were a lot better. Giant furballs werent rare and many people like to fight each other instead of this Ho and run garbage that we have now. The one thing I remember most from AH1 was a time I believe it was on either Festerma of Trinity where bunch of knights and I believe bish got into this giant hole between 2 airfields seperated by maybe 20-30 miles. At least 50 were in that hole, yea computer got laggy and was little chance come out of that hole alive, but it was a lot of fun.
Yea you have those large furballs at times in AH2 and there are new planes that make things more interesting and the addition of more 38s makes me happy but just dont see as many furballs or as many people willing to fight. Maybe its because the new influx of people are more into the game and the wanting to win the "war" and more veterans from AH1 quitting.
I prefer the 1 large main arena as well from AH1. I just dont really enjoy the split arenas, some may and I respect that they enjoy it but splitting of the arenas makes the number of people in the each arena smaller and fights can be that much harder to find. Especially on those larger maps, people can take bases without having to fight for the base. Having everyone in that one arena, you were bound to find a fight as 200 people cant hide all the time.
Maybe its just me but I also think porking/toolshedding has gone to an all new high in AH2.
The game looks better in AH2 but still prefer AH1 for the above reasons.

there were better fights in AHI. there were less dedicated porkers in AHI. there were fewer BoPs in AHI. but I like AHII better. the 109s fly much better in AHII. there are more BoPs to kill in AHII.

Tried it a few years ago (AH 1) and totally hated it. Erased it from my HD within the first 2 hours
Currently trying AH II, and have been nothing but impressed since its instalation. Many folks who I know (flight simmers since the mid 90's) who are also trying it right now feel the same.
The game just needs more US EST primetime events....preferably in the 1 life, squad based, mission organized, multi-squad category (15-20 squads). All the tools are here no doubt.

I actually can't decide. I loved AHI , but AHII is better in different ways. So they equall eachother out.

I don't believe I'll ever miss losing a wing from a LA7 1.3k behind me in a P51. That was no fun to say the least. Front quarter shots were much more lethal in AH1 imo also.
So, its a hands down for AHII as far as I'm concerned. Not that AH1 didn't have its moments. Its just that some of the AH1 moments weren't so great. Plus, I really hated night (which is actually not unique to AH1).
Also, something which isn't unique to AH1, the BBS was of no value to someone learning the game at the time. In fact, I don't think there were ever a bigger bunch of buttheads than on this BBS. Yes, most are still here just censored.

I like AH better before that incredibly idiotic contest for top rank potato. All that contest did was usher in the the era of the Score potato and the game play hasn't been the same since. And one arena was good too but I can see why HTC had to make the change on that and agree with it.

AH 1 no question. Smaller community, less 12 year old squeakers, better fights.

When I responded that I prefer II, I thought we were talking about the software, not the community, and not the arena settings...
Porking rules, and whiners are not the fault of the program... I don't think its fair to vote for AH1 because of rule changes that had nothing to do with the core program.

from what I've heard AH1 is the better of the two so i'll go with AH1

AH1 was a lot better. My pc didn't have the first struggle with AH1, with AH2 I'm constantly having frame rate issues.
I also miss the fuel being porked to 25%. Sure it sucked when it porked at a field I wanted to up at, but I think it made it more chalenging. Give the strat guys more targets to hit as well as defenders more of a reason to defend.

I don't think there's any doubt but that AH2 is the better program. Flight models are better, gunnery models are better, graphics are better, without requiring a whole lot more computer horsepower.
I think the player base has changed a lot since AH1. My sense is that there is a smaller proportion of people dedicated to WWII aerial combat now than there was then. That's why many of us remember AH1 as having better fights (that, and the fact that we're aging and losing our minds).
So: if you took the current player base, and re-installed AH1, I think the game would be slightly worse.

AH1, I miss the massive furball at the start of the map for the first 10-15 minutes. AHII has it's good points too, I'm just a bit nostalgic sometimes.

def AHI :) started on there as 91488 and played for a few months then quit due to real life issues came back when AHII came out and been playing off and on since.

i joined AH1 sometime in 2003 and it was at its peak of enjoyment and good attitudes right then, that i have seen.
slowly from that time onwards the lameplay increased, the bickering and egos got louder, the community doubled and the gameplay got less combat orientated.
i remember my first mission, i had the good fortune to wing up with Wolfala suring my two week trial and that cat showed me some of the coolest things in just a few hours.
i remember on pizza map we flew with our loverly fuel burn X1 settings for hours, and when the enemy stopped coming he showed me something which made me think he was cool as a cucumber in a freezer from that day on, he guided us down to land on a road just outside the radar circle of enemy base and we waited there saving our fuel for the dar bar to come back..... suddenly he shouts over vox
'oh crap, get off the road quick'
'ok why, whats going on......' BAM!
i got hit by a titanium convoy of trucks going 120mph.
other times i would fly out and be talking on channel 1 to the enemy, we would meet up fly wing to wing for a few hundred yards then break off and seperate for the fight to start.
things like that dont happen anymore.
despite how much i miss those days of novelty experiences each time i logged in, the improvements to the game model itself easily make up for the degredation of gameplay and comunity spirit and fair play fighting.
AH1 looked good for its time, but now it would be shockingly bad visually. we forget how much the little touches like smoke on engine start up, oil on screen, fire that looks like fire and not tinfoil flapping behind your plane.
AH2 is 110% the better game, with about a 10% decrease in the quality of community since ive been playing.
i could not live without vast upgrades between the two games now ive been playing the better version for so long.

It is human nature to only remember what was good and not what was bad... one can remember plesant feelings but not painfull ones...
hence what once was is always remembered as better then what we have today...
In one way this pathetic human nature is good... without it there would never ever have been more then one child born per woman and we would have been extinct long ago...

See, i am the kind of person that can live without the upgrades as long as the experience is still fun.
A kinder community is always much more fun for me.

I tried AH1, it was ok, but I got bored with the furballing and when to WB & WW2OL.
So my vote also goes to Aces High 2 Version 1... that said I am not so happy with this AW 2 version 2 we have right now. :(

its like eulogies... very rarely would you have someone say anything bad during a euology.
Its also a known fact people's recollection of how pleasant/unpleasant a previous experiece was is way off target (you can read a really good article on it on The Economist from a couple weeks back)
On that logic, I would say AW3 was better. However, in reality, I think AHII is the best, and continues to improve. Also, I think as a community we are starting to settle after all those changes, and I can see this group starting to love this version as much as they used to love the previous version.

hmm....what is this Aces High 1 people are speaking of? now as far as memories and having fun times a flying, I liked Aces High, I got to fly with Buzzard, KGann, Snowman, WrW, Coach, Max, and all my Damned Squaddies.........truely miss them good times ( and I was a tad younger and had quicker reflexes and think the older I get the worse I get playing seriously )
but to compare Aces High vs Aces High 2 is like trying to compare an Apple to an Orange............ 2 completely different eras............
just wait til the day they try to compare Aces High 2 to Aces High Gold then Aces High Gold to Aces High Platinum :D
still be the same ole BBS, the same type / different type Flyers..........just different graphics.......there will always be hording / milk running / furballing / scorewhoring / vulching / ramming / players with 2 accounts ( or 5 ROFL ) / the community that gives back and the that part of the community that wants nothing but to have it THEIR way ;)

When we were still flying AHI, I remember the old squaddies I had in the airraiders at that time talking about 2...They thought their comp's could handle it.
Lost a lotta buddies who could'nt afford to upgrade their systems.
One cool thing about AHI, It could be played on lower-end, cheaper systems, 450Mhz PI, or PII style processors.
