I've always had a hard time figuring out how the scoring and rank system works. At the begging of the tour I always try do well, but never get much higher than the 50 or 60 rank. I think my personal best was 35 for day.
One thing I think I have discovered. If you have very low # rank, you are considered a score oar (if you follow). If you have a high # rank, you are someone who doesn't care about rank (usually self proclaimed..yadayada)
Rather than asking for some protracted answers on how the best guys get ranked that way, I was wondering if some of you would comment on what I found.
Just for kicks I looked at the stats of the #1 ranked fighter pilot (as of today at that moment) This person had flown 4 sorties, had 3 discoes and one death. No enemy kills, and was ranked #1. (not overall rank, fighter pilot rank)
I'm sure there is some mathematical formula which does this, but whatever it is, I'm feeling a bit skeptical atm.:noid

there are glitches in the scoring system, and it can put people who have only just logged on in the top spot for some reason. it always happens in the first few days of the new tour...
-
I really don't care about my rank(because if I did I would be sad and would probably quit)
-
I'm not sure how the math of the scoring system works exactly, but near the beginning of the tour is it not uncommon to see things like that. As the month progresses they should become less frequent.
If I can toss in one bit of well intentioned advice. I wouldn't look @ score as any way of gauging your improvement in playing skill. If bettering your rank in of itself as a standalone goal is what you're trying to accompolish then go for it, if it's fun. My experience was the opposite however, I used to regard rank as a reflection on me and how "good" I was. What I realized was that I got so caught up in trying to keep my rank high that I wasn't having fun anymore, and rank isn't a measure of anything other than how good you are at manipulating the scoring system.

Well said Soulyss...
I really cared for score back in the days when there was a competition. Now i just fly like i want to and do the 3 things it takes to get you up to were i can take CV away from someone who is in control but might not be paying attention when CV is egged.
the 3 simple things are usually done in a few mins anyway..
1: the Pt boat run
2: a c47 capture
3: an M3 capture
That gets me high enough.. the rest just comes naturally.. good or bad.

Have to agree with this for sure.
But, flying a tour for score can be a good diversion when you get bored.
The guys that fly for score every tour, have a lot more discipline than I do. If this is what you like to do, then do it. I am a firm believer in doing what is fun for you, and tune out all the little Generals you run into.
As for the best dogfighters in the game. I could pick 5-10 players whose rank sucks, and they would win a fight against the top-ranked players, most of the time IMHO.

okay here are tips if rank is you thing.
First let me say this can be boring to do.
1. Attack score use ju87 MOAB 1800KG drop on strat biggest congested buildings there. If no 50 cals at strat (as of now only city strats have 50's) land ju87slowly taxi upto building empty guns into building till it blows (947 rounds left and building dead) taxi to another repeat. Take off repeat process 3 or 4 times till strat dead. ( careful only land and taxi other side town from where train unloads) This increases hit% for bombs and ammo.
also say your off cv and base capped no vulching land taxi to hanger shoot it hit % goes up.
When attacking gvs try using only guns, this keeps bomb hit% up.....
make sure you rearm planes as much as possible, rearm 20 times and its still 1 sortie in score.
2. Gvs drive flak to strat kill buildings about 20 rounds per building, make sure u use your hull gun on buildings untill gone, this will raise up you hit %, or if you like use m3 with gv supplies kill buildings too 250 rounds kills building. go to tank town find good hiding spot kill gvs, never try to kill gvs by spawn camping vh atleast not alone, only takes 1 guy in t34 to end panzers day. next take a pt boat use rockets on a town or port or strat fire until a rocket hits. then don't use rockets or torp again if you do it lowers hit %.
3. bombers get to 30k bomb a strat using lancs or b24's i like b24's because no one but fester has ever killed all 3 bombers 30k plus dying hurts score in multible ways. or wait till your side near strat and use lancs 4k bomb using single lanc only hit big set of buildings. NEVER ever bomb gvs with bomber in bomber mode. This is fastest way to bad hit % and flaks will kill. to kill gvs now with 50's in towns guys have to use tanks if you going tobomb tanks use ju87 rearm in attack mode 1800 never misses. keep rearming untill gvs quit. or a20 8 500's but again doing this will hurt attack bomb hit %.
4. fighter key here fly smart NEVER EVER come up bomber formations 6 low and slow climb. Make 2to8 or 10 to 4 attacks diving once bomber buring wait till its gone before reattacking take you time trying to kill bombers. Against fighters will that is upto your style but when ever possible rearm fighter no matter how many kills u have, i usally try to land kills only after getting 10 or more kills in sortie. fire only at close range short burts to impove your hit%. NEVER ever kill ack in fighter mode or attack gvs ( yes i know this hurts team but u have to decide team or score sometimes) have i killed ack or m3 to save base yes but i use least amount of rounds i can. secret rearm all landable sorties untill u have your goal in hand maybe 6 is goal thats upto u .
last tod fighter kills per sortie=6 plus k/d =14plus hit % = 15 plus
attack 4/1 k/d 2 kils sortie hit percent 60 plus guns and bombs 500 plus% i use bombs to much for gvs its my weaknest i like killing gvs.
gv 4 to 1 and 92% hit and over 1 million points for buildings.
lastely try to get 5 goons captures and 5 gvs now u can use m3 drop troops get out tower then up c47 sit on r/w till your troops take this gives u goon capture insrtead of gv. visa-versa.........
now for those that think this is lame, lol
the man asked how to get lower rank, some like lower ranks its fun turning cv as lazer comes in for landing just to name one , sure is fun turning cv watching newbies crash trying to give cv location away.

Early in the TOD is a poor indicator of how the actual rank thing works. I can consistently remain in the top 10 (over all) with very little work for rank. My simple guide line is "realism". Would what your about to do actually happen in WWII ?
Rod367th has high lighted some short cuts of which I do use 2. Stucka bombing factories and VH and rockets into towns. As for the actual enjoyment of the game and maintaining rank without infringing the ethos of the game, I do loads more.
I fly bombers to cities because it 1) slows enemy regain time 2) helps me bombing score if done right and RTB'ed. Hanger banging is counter to score but a necessity at times especially VH's. The biggest aid to a bomber score is a minimum of 3 field captures in a c47 in any TOD
I sink CV's with me avocados (perk bomber AR234's) because 1) it saves our bases 2) helps me bomber score if done right and RTB'ed. Helps damage sortie but lessens hit %. 6 of 9 bombs may actually miss.
GV'ing factories is fun because 1) it slows regain time 2) helps me Gv score but so does M3 captures and landing a stink loada kills. Unfortunately running supplies is counter to score but it's gotta be done at times.
In ground attack I'll choose the town over any field target for score but only if field is suppressed and VH down. Although I have been called the "porker from hell" before now.
Fighter mode.....muhahaHA
Rule number 1 "would what I'm about to do actually happen". I try to fly to
RTB. All this squabbling about in a furball bollocks is just that.... a load of bollocks but ironically really helps the fighter score. Getting a good fighter score is about killing in the quickest time possible. It's better to get 5 kills in 3 min and die than land 5 kills in 30 min. However, in saying that it is always better to land with kills.
Although I ain't no where near the best fighter pilot I fell I am above average and you do need some skill to get kills quickly and survive.
The "do nots" Do not die. Do not go in with the plane always bail. Do not bail from anything that still works. Always land everything. If lead bomber is on fire bail do not die in it. In short do not die do not bail unnessecarily (bomb and bail).
The do's. Do land as many kills as possible

Thanks for the info guys... don't know if I care enough to try any of those, but it's good to know how people are glomming their scores.

I disagree. Those players make the game un-fun for everyone else. I know, because I was one of them a few years ago. I held the position of number one for total kills on a server of over two thousand for several hours, and stayed in the top ten for a few weeks. When you play like that, you're a selfish, rude jerk. No one needs people like that fermenting the servers. If I were king, I would make it so that each player could view only his own statistics.

Set some personal goals for yourself in each Category and then fly to acheive your goals.
Under each Category are many sub-categories. Select a Category; Fighter, Bomber, Attack, Gv, and set a personal goal for yourself based upon your previous performance within those areas. Fly the entire TOD to accomplish the goal(s) you have personally set for yourself.
I could go into great detail here...but i won't. Each of us has the ability to check each others' scores, as well as our own, and only our own score counts for anything...as long as we use it as our Mothers use a measuring cup in her secret recipies.
Most of our Mothers have some variation of established recipies. Aces High is no different. You may elect to fly only in the Fighter Mode and do very well within it and be satisfied with a tour ending score around 3000, overall. What you did within that category during the entire TOD might be a bit shocking...kinda like Mom changing the recepie a bit. Perhaps your Kill/Death Ratio is better than others in this catergory....or perhaps your hit percentage is higher than most....
My point is...score is only what you as an individual make it out to be: you can make it a tool for self improvement, or, a tool to bragg about accomplishments.
It's up to you.
